Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
Eton College, founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, is one of the most prestigious and historic independent schools in the United Kingdom. Located in Eton, near Windsor in Berkshire, the all-boys school is renowned for its high academic standards, extensive extracurricular activities, and notable alumni, including numerous British Prime Ministers and members of royal families. It's a boys-only boarding school (high school age).
The college has its own color, Eton Blue, a greenish light blue, for the uniforms of the school's sportsmen. The famous dessert Eton Mess, a mixture of berries, meringue and whipped cream, is being served during the annual cricket match with Harrow School since the late 1800s.
Among its many famous alumni, called Old Etonians, we find actors Hugh Laurie and Eddie Redmayne, Prime Minister David Cameron, royals King Leopold III of Belgium (1901-1988) and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, authors Ian Fleming, Aldous Huxley and George Orwell, Nobel Laureate and developmental biologist John Gurdon, economist John Maynard Keynes, British diplomat and Soviet spy Guy Burgess, and, finally, the Regency Period dandy and fashion setter, George "Beau" Brummell.
The wrong choices are: Prime Ministers Winston Churchill and Rishi Sunak, entrepreneur Richard Branson, playwright George Bernard Shaw, King Charles III, and actor Laurence Olivier.
