Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Name of Abraham's wife before she became known as Sarah

Answer: Sarai

Sarah was originally known as Sarai.

Genesis 17:15 tells of God changing her name to Sarah. The new name was to signify Sarah would "be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be from her."

At the same time, Sarah's husband Abram, received a new name. His new name was Abraham to signify that he too would be the father of many nations and kings would come from him.

When announcing the new names, God also told Abraham that "I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God."
2. Name of Rebekah's husband

Answer: Isaac

Rebekah, of course, was married to Isaac, the son of Abraham and Sarah.

Isaac and Rebekah were the parents of twin sons -- Jacob and Esau. According to Scripture, Rebekah favored Jacob while Esau was Isaac's favorite.
3. One of two wives of Lamech

Answer: Adah

Adah was one of two wives of Lamech, as per Genesis 4:19. The name of the second wife was Zillah.

According to Scripture, Adah was the mother of two sons -- Jabal and Jubal.

Jabal was the father of "those who dwell in tents and have livestock" and Jubal was the father "of all those who play the harp and flute."

Apart from Adam and Eve, the account of Lamech and his two wives is the first marriage documented in the Bible.
4. Name of Cain's wife

Answer: No name given

No name is given in Scripture for Cain`s wife.

According to Genesis 4:17, Cain was the father of Enoch. Scripture goes on to tell of Cain building a city in the land of Nod and naming it after Enoch.
5. Wife of Solomon

Answer: Naamah

I find it fascinating that King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines but only one of the women is identified by name in Scripture.

The only woman named in Solomon's vast harem is Naamah.

Scripture states she was the mother of Rehoboam who became king of Israel after Solomon died.

According to 1 Kings 14:21-31, and 2 Chronicles 12:13, Naamah was an Ammonite.
6. Wife of Joseph, son of Jacob and Rachel

Answer: Asenath

Asenath was the wife of Joseph, the son of Jacob and Rachel.

According to Scripture, she was given as a wife to Joseph by the Pharaoh. She was the daughter of Poti-Phera, priest of On, as per Genesis 41:45.

Joseph and Asenath were the parents of two sons -- Manasseh and Ephraim.
7. King of Judah who married a daughter of Ahab and Jezebel

Answer: Jehoram

Jehoram, also spelled Joram, was a king of Judah whose wife was Athalia, the daughter of Ahab, king of Israel. (See 2 Kings 8:21 and 26)

Athalia was despicable. Unbelievably, she killed her grandchildren so she could become queen of Judah after the death of her son Ahaziah.

For the sordid details, see the 11th chapter of 2 Kings as well as the 22nd and 23rd chapters of 2 Chronicles.
8. Prophet who complained about Jews divorcing their wives to marry foreign women

Answer: Malachi

Malachi, the writer of one of the twelve books in the Minor Prophet section, is the correct answer.

In Malachi 2:10-16, the prophet laments that Jewish men were divorcing their wives and marrying the daughters of a foreign god.

In the passage, Malachi states men who do such a thing are guilty of treachery against the "wife of their youth." He also states the men are guilty of introducing idolatry into Israel.
9. Persian emperor who fell for an orphaned Jewish girl

Answer: Ahasuerus

Ahasuerus, king of the Persian empire, selected Esther, a young Jewish woman, to be his queen. Previously, Vashti had been queen but she was deposed when she refused a request of the king to appear before a banquet to show her beauty.

Esther, originally known as Hadassah, was an orphan who was raised by her cousin Mordecai. Esther and Mordecai would be key players in preventing Haman from carrying out a plan to kill all the Jews in the Persian empire that stretched from India in the east to Ethiopia in the west.

(In the NIV, Ahasuerus is known as Xerxes.)
10. Gospel containing parable of the virgins and the bridegroom

Answer: Matthew

The Parable of the Ten Virgins and the Bridegroom is found in Matthew 25:1-13. It was one of a number of parables told by Jesus in the New Testament.

The parable tells of five wise and five foolish virgins waiting for a bridegroom. According to the parable, the wise virgins brought extra oil for their lamps, while the foolish did not.

The parable goes on to tell of the bridegroom arriving late at night while the foolish ones were away buying oil for their lamps.

The five wise virgins were admitted to the wedding banquet and the doors were locked, preventing the foolish virgins from entering.

An AI overview offers this explanation of the parable: "The story highlights the need to be prepared for the unknown time of Christ's return (the bridegroom)."
