Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
Zacchaeus was the chief tax collector of Jericho. Because he was short in stature, he had to climb a sycamore tree to get a better look when Jesus passed through. Scripture reports about Jesus telling Zacchaeus to descend from the tree because He needed to spend the evening at his house. The account of Zacchaeus appears in only the Gospel of Luke.
Bartimaeus was a blind beggar who was miraculously able to see after meeting with Jesus. According to Mark 10, Bartimaeus lived in Jericho. His name appears in only Mark and nowhere else in the Bible.
Lazarus lived in Bethany with his two sisters, Mary and Martha. John Chapter 11 tells of Christ raising Lazarus from the dead even though he had died four days earlier. His name appears nowhere else in the Bible.
Martha was the sister of Mary. According to Scripture she had a reputation for being busy while her sister Mary was attentive to the teachings of Christ. (See Luke 10:38-42.) The names of Martha and her sister can be found in only the Gospels of Luke and John.
Chuza is mentioned only once in the New Testament. In Luke 8:3 it tells of Chuza being Herod's steward. The same verse states his wife was Joanna and she was a follower of Jesus.
Malchus was a servant of the high priest Caiaphas. Scripture tells of Peter cutting off Malchus' ear with a sword during the night Jesus was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, as per John 18:10. Luke 22:51 tells of Jesus miraculously reattaching his ear.
Nicodemus was the Pharisee who approached Jesus at night, as per John 3:1-21.
It is in this passage Jesus tells Nicodemus he must be born again. John 3:3 in the NKJV states: "Jesus answered and said to him, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.'" The name Nicodemus can be found in only the Gospel of John.
Zebedee was the father of John and James, two of the original Twelve Disciples. Using the NKJV, his name appears 11 times in the four Gospels. However, outside of the Gospels, there is no mention of Zebedee.
Mary Magdalene's name appears 13 times in the New Testament, using the NKJV. However, her name can be found in only the four Gospels and no where else in the Bible. According to Scripture, Christ drove seven demons out of her.
Elizabeth was the elderly woman who miraculously gave birth of John the Baptist. Her husband was Zacharias. Elizabeth's name appears nine times in the NKJV, but only in the first chapter of Luke.
Meanwhile, the names Paul, Timothy, Philemon, Silas and Eutychus cannot be found in the four Gospels. However, the five names appear elsewhere in the New Testament.
Paul was the apostle to the Gentiles and is credited with writing 13 books in the New Testament. One of Paul's book was addressed to Philemon, an old friend.
Two other books by Paul are addressed to Timothy, a young worker in the early church.
Silas was a worker in the early church who served along side Paul.
Meanwhile, Eutychus was a young man who tumbled to his death out of a third story window in Troas while Paul was preaching. Acts 20:7-12 tell of Paul miraculously bringing Eutychus back to life.
