Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My job was to go and tell King David that he had sinned against God when he took Bathsheba and ordered her husband killed. I picked a parable of a poor man and a lamb to drive the message home. Who am I?

Answer: Nathan

Nathan's approach to David was very wise. Nobody likes to be told they have acted wrong - much less a king. So Nathan used a parable to let David make his own judgment against a rich man who stole a lamb from a poor man. Once David had decided what should happen to the rich man, Nathan said the condemning words: "You are that man." (2 Samuel 12:7)
2. Which prophet was not allowed to mourn when his wife died?

Answer: Ezekiel

Ezekiel's actions toward his wife's death were to be a sign to the people of Israel about things to come. It's hard to imagine how he must have felt when he had to continue being a messenger even in the midst of personal tragedy. This story is found in Ezekiel 24:15-27.
3. King Ahab hated this prophet because he never prophesied anything good about the king. Who was the prophet?

Answer: Micaiah son of Imlah

In 1 Kings chapter 22 Micaiah prophesies to king Ahab that Israel would be scattered in the hills and would lose their leader in battle. The king, angry because once again Micaiah hadn't said anything good, ordered him put in jail on bread and water until the king returned victorious from the battle. Who knows how long poor Micaiah stayed in jail because king Ahab died in the battle field.

Wrong answers:
Simon Templar is from the movie "The Saint."
Simon of Cyrene was the man who helped Jesus carry the cross.
Micah of Moresheth wrote the book of Micah in the Old Testament.
4. Which prophet did the following things: Destroyed 450 priests of Ba'al, prayed for rain, ran into the desert for fear that a woman wanted to kill him?

Answer: Elijah

Elijah thought that Jezebel had killed all the prophets of God and he ran into the desert in fear that he would be next. God found him in the desert and, after a time of conversation and recovery, sent him back to continue the work that he had been told to do. The story can be found in 1 Kings chapters 18 and 19.
5. This prophet helped a widow who's sons were going to be sold into slavery (2 Kings 4). Made an ax float (2 Kings 6). After this prophet's death, a body that fell in his tomb was brought back to life. Who was this man?

Answer: Elisha

The curious event that took place after Elisha's death occurred when men that were carrying a body tried to hide from a band of raiders. They threw the body into Elisha's tomb and when the body touched his bones the man came back to life. 2 Kings 13:20-21.
6. Which prophet said: "Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Answer: Isaiah

The book of Isaiah is full of hope and strength to those who are without hope. He speaks of the coming of the Messiah, of His suffering and death and of the future hope for all. The quote mentioned above was taken from Isaiah 40:31.
7. Which prophet was tossed into a cistern because he said the city would be captured by the enemy?

Answer: Jeremiah

According to the Merriam-Webster's online dictionary, a cistern was an underground tank that held rain water. In this case, the cistern that Jeremiah was thrown into had no water, only mud, Jeremiah sank into the mud when he was thrown in.
An official of the house of the king went and appealed to the king to let Jeremiah out before he died of starvation. The king ordered him to get thirty men from the house and pull Jeremiah out. The story can be found in Jeremiah 38.
8. Which prophet was willing to rejoice in the Lord even if the "fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls."

Answer: Habakkuk

Habakkuk questioned the Lord regarding the things that were happening to his people. After the first two chapters of questions and answers, Habakkuk gives this song in chapter 3. He is willing to rejoice in the Lord even if there is no visible reason to rejoice. The quote mentioned is from Habakkuk 3:17.
9. Talk about being in the wrong profession! This prophet was very angry with God for not destroying a city that had repented of their evil ways.

Answer: Jonah

Jonah's encounter with a large fish is well known. The later incident with a plant and a worm is less known but still very interesting. Jonah went outside of Nineveh to see if God was going to destroy it. He was very angry that God would forgive them when they repented.
To teach him a lesson, God created a plant to protect Jonah from the sun's rays, and then created a worm that attacked the plant so it would dry up. Jonah was very upset to lose that plant. God pointed out to him how wrong it was to be upset over the loss of a plant and not show mercy toward a city full of people.
This story is found in the book of Jonah chapter 4.
10. Which prophet prayed three times a day even after the king had passed a law saying that anyone caught praying to another god apart from him would be put to death?

Answer: Daniel

When the law was passed, Daniel continued praying to God as he always did. Those who wanted to destroy him went immediately and told the king about this rebellion against his edict. King Darius, even though he liked Daniel, had to stand by his law and ordered Daniel be put in the den of lions. The angel of God closed the mouth of the lions and Daniel was kept safe.
This story is found in Daniel chapter 6.
