Question 1 of 10
1. Shaking my head, I sit up, only to find myself in a small dark place. I feel the walls all around, but find no way out. The only thing I can remember is my name. Everything else is a blur. I try to push the fuzzy things out of my mind and remember my name. "Superfan123," I say out loud. Suddenly I shriek and gasp, somehow afraid of my own name. What is the phobia that could have possibly gripped me in that moment? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. At last, I find a small exit out of the cramped, uncomfortable cave. After navigating towards the light, I walk out of the cave to find myself in a jungle. The wide, broad leaves block the sunlight, and the area is almost as dark as the cave. I see a beam of sunlight in the distance and begin to run towards it. I look up towards the sun in the beam of light, but I become really scared. My eyes almost burn from the light--but that's not why. I'm not normally afraid of light alone. Which of these phobias is the real reason? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. After I take some deep breaths to calm myself from the sunlight, I stand up and try to walk forward. My legs are shaking as I walk, but I force myself to continue. I take small steps, avoiding the beams of sunlight percolating through the leaves. Suddenly I hear a slight creaking noise, and I look up to see a tree swaying. Without warning, it tilts over and begins to fall. Landing an inch away from my feet, the tree crashes down heavily. I look around and see the trees all around me, and I scream. Which of these phobias would NOT be a cause of making me scared of these big plants? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. I kneel down and begin to crawl. I try to stay in the edge of the shade so that I am not too close to the trees, yet I am not in the sun. I come across a patch of dirt with a bit of mud it in. Scooping the mud with my hands, I pour the mud into my mouth in order to quench my thirst. Suddenly I see a slight movement, and an earthworm pops out. My heart skips a beat as I stare at the small creature. Yelling for help, I scramble away. Which of these phobias is responsible? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. I shake my head and try to get the foul taste of the mud out of my mouth. I continue to walk around the edges of the shade, and I hear a sound of running water. After a bit of maneuvering through the jungle, I find the source of the noise. A wide river is running through the jungle. As I bend down to sip a drink out of it, I jerk back in fear. Which of these phobias would NOT cause this? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Suddenly a disgusting smell wafts into my nose. The air hurts my throat as I breath in. The air is visible and looks darker. Suddenly I recognize it. Smoke! And where there's smoke, there's fire. I feel the area becoming unnaturally hot. Flames burst to the left of me, spreading rapidly. I run away, fearing that the flames may engulf me and burn me to the bone. Being scared of fire is normal, but I have an extreme phobia of it. I know that pyrophobia is a phobia of fire, but what is another one that could have taken a hold of me? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Finally, I make it out of the jungle and escape from the fire. I look forward, and a blast of sunlight hits me. I screech and run away under a lone tree in the clearing. I look up into the tree, and the sunlight is stuck on the leaves, unable to filter through. I breath a sigh of relief until I hear a noise. Looking up again, I scream at what I see, as I have ornithophobia. What did I see in the tree? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. I run away quickly, and hear a distant sound of waves crashing. Determined to find shelter, I run wildly in that direction. There is not a single cloud in the sky, meaning the sky is clear and all the sunlight is crashing down on me. At last, I reach the edge of the ocean and look around. There is a small area of shade under a rock sticking out of the ground. A wall of rocks are piled up from the sand, and I run into the shade. As I look at the salt water, I realize I never escaped my phobias. All of these phobias affect me except for what? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. I see a little hut nearby, and my memory snaps back into my mind. I was going on a journey with my friend. We had walked through the jungle. We entered the cave, only to hear a loud noise, and then I passed out. Shaking my head, I walk up to my friend's hut and knock on the door. "Oh, hey!" he says as he opens the door. "You okay?" I shake my head as I walk in. He asks, "What's wrong? How about we go on another journey?" "No!" I shout. "I have too many phobias." He chuckles and replies, "So you're afraid of your own phobias." I can vaguely remember the correct name for the phobia of phobias, which is what? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. My friend looks a bit concerned but only says, "Do you want a drink from the refrigerator? You look as bedraggled as a hippopotamus. And your apparel is extremely tatterdemalion and dilapidated. You look just like my old friend, who suffered from pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanokoniosis after that volcano explosion we went through in Hawaii." He had no trouble pronouncing that long word, but I shiver and step back. "No more long words... please!" Which of these would be the correct name for the phobia that made me say that? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Nomatophobia

Nomatophobia is the fear of names. Nosophobia, along with nosemaphobia, is the phobia of becoming sick. Nesocomephobia is the fear of hospitals, and neophobia is the fear of anything new. It seems neophobia would not be good for anyone with memory loss as I did, as almost everything would seem new to them!

Answer: Heliophobia

Heliophobia is the fear of the sun. Photophobia is the fear of light in general, and photoaugliaphobia is the fear of glaring lights specifically. Selenophobia is the fear of the moon, which would definitely not affect me during the day!

Answer: Agoraphobia

Dendrophobia, ylophobia, and hylophobia all mean the fear of trees, wood, and forests. Xylophobia also fits in with those too. Agoraphobia is simply the fear of closed spaces, and even though a forest may feel a bit cramped, that phobia is not limited to just forests!

Answer: Scoleciphobia

Scolesciphobia is a fear of just earthworms. Mysophobia, molysmophobia, and rupophobia are all names for the phobia of germs. Dirt, mud, and earthworms may contain germs, but scolesciphobia only involves those little but helpful creatures. Earthworms help the earth--no need to be afraid, but some just naturally are.

Answer: Limnophobia

Hydrophobia and aquaphobia are words for the fear of water, hence the "hydro" and "aqua" in the words. Potamophobia is the fear of running water, such as rivers and streams, but limnophobia is the fear of still lakes and marshes. As I had not encountered a lake at the time, there was no reason for me to suffer from that phobia.

Answer: Arsonphobia

Arsonphobia and pyrophobia are both phobias of fire and flames. Capnophobia is the fear of smoking. Not the fear of smoke, it is the fear of taking a cigarette, putting it in your mouth, and smoking. Thermophobia is a phobia of heat, and although it might have grasped me in that moment, it is not a fear of fire specifically. Siderophobia is the fear of stars; the kind in space, like the sun.

Answer: A bird

Ornithophobia is the fear of birds, as ornitho- , deprived from Latin, means "relating to birds". The phobia of snakes is called ophidiophobia. Musophobia, or also murophobia, is the phobia of mice, and sciurophobia is the fear of squirrels. It was a good thing only a bird had startled me; imagine seeing a snake above you in a tree, hissing at you!

Answer: Nephophobia

Nephophobia is the fear of clouds, but as stated, there were absolutely no clouds in the sky! Geophobia is the fear of rocks, as geo- is a very simple Latin word meaning rock. Eremikophobia is the phobia of sand, usually pertaining to deserts, but beaches have sand too. Thalassophobia is the intense fear of salt water, like the ocean. So many phobias could affect you in one of the best places to take a vacation!

Answer: Phobophobia

Phobophobia, a rather odd phobia, is the phobia of phobias. If anyone were to be afraid of having a phobia, it means they may have phobophobia, which is a phobia itself! Fearophobia, phobilophobia, and pholibophobia are not real phobias--just made up by me.

Answer: Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia

Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia is the intense fear of long words, which is quite appropriate for its name. Again, the other choices aren't real phobias. A shortened version of the name is sesquipedalophobia, which is pretty long anyway. Logophobia is the phobia of words in general. And in case you wondering, pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanokoniosis is a lung disease caused by extremely small particles of ash and/or silica dust.
