Colorado already beat Nebraska earlier in the season and were thought to go to the Rose Bowl, but they had lost two games. Oregon only lost one game like Nebraska but the BCS system nominated Nebraska for the Rose Bowl.

The ball hit off a player and then another player caught it for an interception.

Later in the season, playing Colorado in a crucial game, Simms threw several interceptions until Applewhite came in almost coming back and winning from a big deficit. He played in Texas' bowl game and came back in a great game to win.
