His wife Robyne, the Blues and the team's president Jack Quinn were also named in the $1 million lawsuit. A grand jury chose not to indict Gilmour so he was never charged, and shortly after the civil suit was dropped. When all this became public, that's when it was decided to trade him.

He was traded the next day.

At least he got to retire as a Maple Leaf!

Gilmour started his career wearing jersey #39 with St. Louis and Calgary, but upon his trade to Toronto he changed his jersey to #93, which he wore for every subsequent team he played for until he retired.
15. Upon retiring as a player in 2003, Doug Gilmour was an assistant coach with the Toronto Marlies.

Answer: True

Gilmour retired in 2003, and joined the Toronto Maple Leafs front office in 2006 as an adviser to the Maple Leafs. In 2008, he moved into an assistant coach role with their minor league affiliate, the Toronto Marlies. He only held the role a few months before leaving the team altogether.

Answer: Kingston Frontenacs

Doug Gilmour accepted the head coaching role for the Kingston Frontenacs, and held that role for three seasons. In the first season the team failed to make the playoffs, and in the subsequent two the team lost in the quarter finals. He then moved into the GM role, and subsequently became the team president. Eventually he left the team altogether.
17. Which odd NHL record did Doug Gilmour and Ken Linseman collectively tie during a game between the St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins on December 19, 1987

Answer: NHL record fastest two goals (scored by both teams)

Between the two of them, two goals were scored in a span of two seconds. This feat has occurred multiple times, both before and since when Doug Gilmour and Ken Linseman did it in 1987. It typically occurs when a player scores late in a game and on the next faceoff a shot is quickly taken into the empty net.
18. During game 6 of the Campbell Conference finals between the Toronto Maple Leafs and LA Kings in 1993, what famous missed call involving Doug Gilmour was later admitted by referee Kerry Fraser as the biggest mistake of his 2,100 game career?

Answer: High-sticking

Toronto had a 3-2 game advantage and was in OT with the LA Kings when Wayne Gretzky high-sticked Doug Gilmour to the extent that he was bleeding, which would mandate an automatic 5 minute penalty against Gretzky. The problem is the referee, Kerry Fraser, didn't see it and the call was missed (at the time the NHL had a single referee system).

Instead of being in the penalty box, Wayne Gretzky scored the OT winner mere seconds later, allowing them to tie the series. Toronto would end up losing the series in game seven.

A popular Maple Leaf conspiracy theory claims the missed call was intentional to prevent an all-Canadian Stanley Cup final, which could adversely affect Stanley Cup revenue from the US market.
19. During his initial tenure Toronto Maple Leafs between 1992 and 1997, which drink product did Doug Gilmour endorse in TV commercials?

Answer: Milk

In the famous "got milk?" commercials, Doug Gilmour would dress in his Maple Leafs jersey and black and white spotted tights meant to resemble the appearance of a cow.
20. In what year did Doug Gilmour get inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Answer: 2011

Doug Gilmour was first eligible to be inducted in 2006, but wasn't chosen until 2011. Mark Howe, Ed Belfour, and Joe Nieuwendyk (whom Gilmour was teammates with in Calgary when they won the Stanley Cup) were also inducted in 2011.
