Tim O'Hara's uncle, Martin, is actually a Martian - Exigius 12 1/2 - who crash lands on Earth. Tim helps him by letting Martin hide his flying saucer in his landlady's garage. How they keep her from finding it was one of the humorous side plots throughout the series.
Ray Walston plays the stranded Martian. He had an illustrious television career throughout the last half of the 20th century. After "My Favorite Martian", he admitted he regretted taking the role. He said that it prevented him from getting substantial roles for many years.
Other notable roles of Walston were: groundskeeper Boothby in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Star Trek: Voyager"; and Glen Bateman in the miniseries "The Stand".
Walston passed away at age 86 on the first day of the 21st century -- January 1, 2001.
2. "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds"
Answer: Una Chin-Riley
As portrayed in the pilot episode of "Star Trek", little character development was done, save for Captain Pike (Jeffrey Hunter). However, in the prequel series "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds", it's revealed that his Number One -- Una Chin-Riley -- is not human, but Illyrian, a species that genetically enhances their children in utero. After the Eugenics Wars on Earth, genetic enhancement is illegal and is a roadblock to joining Starfleet. Una lied when she applied to Starfleet Academy, but was found out when she was the only crew member who was immune to a light virus.
Rebecca Romijn plays Una, aka Number One. For the pilot of "Star Trek", Number One was portrayed by Majel Barrett, future wife of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry.
3. "Resident Alien"
Answer: Harry Vanderspiegle
Harry is actually an alien sent to Earth to destroy humanity. However, his ship is damaged and he crashes, with the vital piece of his weapon lost in glacial ice in Colorado. In seeking shelter, he goes to the cabin of human Dr. Harry Vanderspiegle, who is on a forced vacation. Human Harry fights the alien, but it ultimately defeated (killed) and thrown into an icy lake next to his cabin. The alien then assumes Harry's form through genetic duplication/illusion. He then spends the winter learning how to operate his human body and to learn English by watching "Law & Order".
When spring arrives, he's visited by the town sheriff and his deputy. They need a doctor in town (Patience, CO), because their current doctor is dead by nefarious means. This forces alien Harry to interact with the townspeople. Much to his annoyance, the young son of the Mayor - Max - can see through his genetic disguise. Max becomes an antagonist to Harry, trying to out him to the adults who are dismissive of his discovery.
Multi-talented Alan Tudyk portrays Harry, both in his human guise and in his alien form, a multi-limbed 8 foot tall creature.
4. "Starman"
Answer: Paul Forrester
Starman is an alien who returns to Earth 15 years after his first visit. During that first visit, he genetically duplicated the body of a man who had died by sampling a lock of hair (with follicle) that was in a young widow's scrapbook. She is naturally shocked by the appearance of her dead husband. She is forced (albeit reluctantly) to take him to where a rescue ship is coming to pick him up. The widow, Jenny, eventually becomes friends with the alien, making love to him before he leaves Earth.
Upon his return, the alien again takes the form of a human who has recently died -- Paul Forrester -- and sets about to find Jenny. He doesn't find her, but rather her son who was the product of his one-time making love to Jenny. The two of them then set out to try to find Jenny, who had disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
Robert Hays portrays Starman/Paul Forrester. He is better known for his comedic roles: Ted Striker in the "Airplane!" and "Airplane II: The Sequel" movies; and Brad Benson in the TV sitcom "Angie".
5. "3rd Rock From The Sun"
Answer: Tommy Solomon
The Solomons are a group of four aliens who are sent to Earth to learn about humans. Their family relationship is two brothers, a sister, and the teenage son of one of the brothers. Tommy is that teenage son, who is ironically the eldest of the aliens. Because, as aliens, they didn't have emotions, they're all overwhelmed by the flood of feelings. Tommy the teenager is especially affected by the wild emotions of puberty.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, though starting "3rd Rock" at 15 years old, was actually quite a veteran actor. He started acting at 7, as Rounder in the TV movie "Stranger on My Land".
6. "Hard Time on Planet Earth"
Answer: Jesse
Jesse is an alien exiled to Earth, specifically in Los Angeles. He was framed for the assassination attempt on the Grand Elder on his home planet. His only companion is a floating, orb-shaped robotic parole officer named Control. He is forced to stay on Earth until he can show compassion.
Martin Cove portrays Jesse. He is best known as the sensei John Kreese of Kobra Kai dojo in the movie "The Karate Kid". He also played George Baker on the adventure series "Code R".
7. "The Orville"
Answer: Janel Tyler
Lt. Janel Tyler was actually a Krill spy named Teleya. She had encountered Captain Ed Mercer and Lieutenant Gordon Malloy when they were sent as disguised spies to thwart a Krill mission to Rana 3. In doing so, they killed all the Krill on their ship, the Yakar, except for Teleya -- a teacher -- and her pupils. After becoming a prisoner of the Union, she was helping Union xenoanthropologists study the Krill holy text, the Anhkana. They eventually converted to Avis worship, and in some way allowed Teleya to escape.
Through transcellular micrografting, Teleya was transformed into human Janel Tyler. The process allowed her to pass Union bioscanners. With a fake history implanted into Union records, she joined the Orville as a dark matter cartographer. She won over Ed, and they dated and made love. She unknowingly became pregnant. She later revealed herself as a spy to get revenge on Ed, who was in command of the Orville when it fought a battle against a Krill ship where her brother was killed.
Michaela McManus portrayed Janel Tyler/Teleya. Many fans suspected the deception of Janel because they noticed the same actress was playing both, though the Krill characters undergo extensive make-up for their roles. McManus notably played ADA Kim Greylek on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit".
8. "Star Trek: Discovery"
Answer: Ash Tyler
Ash Tyler was an actual human Starfleet officer who was captured at The Battle of the Binary Stars by the Klingons. They harvested his DNA, reconstructed his consciousness, and rebuilt his memory. They then modified the Klingon Voq into a shell that appears Human. They grafted Voq's psyche into Tyler's. This was to create Tyler/Voq as a sleeper agent: someone who didn't realize they were a spy until some stimulus activated their pre-programmed mission.
They placed Tyler/Voq into the same prison cell as a captured human trader, Harry Mudd. Later, Captain Lorca was captured and imprisoned with Tyler/Voq and Mudd. Tyler/Voq helped Lorca escape, which endeared him to Lorca. Once they both got back to the USS Discovery, Lorca made Tyler/Voq his head of security.
When Discovery was transported to the mirror universe, Tyler/Voq met Voq from that universe. This restored his Klingon personality fully, causing him to betray his Starfleet compatriots.
Shazad Latif portrayed Tyler/Voq. (Human Tyler was never portrayed on-screen.) He is also known for his roles in "Penny Dreadful", "Toast of London", and "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel".
9. "DC's Legends of Tomorrow"
Answer: Gary Green
Gary is an alien who originated on a savage planet where its inhabitants killed and ate their own kind. Gary was traded to Kayla and then sent to Earth to find the "quintessential human". He became amazed by the beauty of Earth and chose to look human to try to make friends.
Adam Tsekhman portrays Gary Green. He was nominated for Best Actor in a Dramatic Series at the 46th Annual Monte Carlo Television Festival for his work on Zona (The Jail). Eventually lost the award to Kiefer Sutherland for his work on "2"4.
10. "Star Trek: Enterprise"
Answer: T'Mir
T'Mir was one of four Vulcans who were investigating Earth because it had just launched their first artificial satellite -- Sputnik. The Vulcan ship crashed in Pennsylvania coal country, killing one of their shipmates.
The remaining crew -- T'Mir, Mestral, and Stron -- lived as long as they could on their rations. Eventually, they had to venture into the town of Carbon Creek, PA, to find food. After encountering humans, they decided to assimilate into the population while they waited for a rescue ship.
T'Mir was portrayed by Jolene Blalock, who also plays the main character Subcommander T'Pol. Jolene (she now goes by just her first name) is an actress, writer, and producer.
