Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who starred in the TV series "Air America" (1998-1999)?

Answer: Lorenzo Lamas

Lorenzo Lamas (born 1958) started his acting career in 1969 as an uncredited extra in the movie "100 Rifles". He later showed up as an extra in "Grease" (1978) and as the main actor in "Body Rock" (1984), which earned him a Golden Raspberry as Worst Actor. On TV, he started with a few episodes of "Switch" (1977) and several episodes of "California Fever" (1980) and "Secrets of Midland Heights" (1980-1981). His best known TV role is Lance Cumson in "Falcon Crest" (1981-1990).
In "Air America", Lorenzo played the pilot Rio Arnett, who joined Wiley Ferrell (played by Scott Plank) as pilots flying regular missions between the USA and South America. But Rio and Wiley were not only pilots, they were paid by the State Department to execute covert missions...

2. Which of these TV show was named after a top secret attack helicopter?

Answer: Airwolf

"Airwolf" ran from 1996 to 1999 and was named after a highly advanced helicopter. It could fly at supersonic speeds, use stealth, and was equipped with various weaponry. In the first seasons the main characters were Captain Stringfellow Hawke (role by Jan-Michael Vincent), the main helicopter pilot; Dominic Santini (role by Ernest Borgnine), a flight engineer; Michael Coldsmith Briggs (played by Alex Cord), a CIA operative responsible for the Airwolf program; and Briggs' assistant Marella (role by Deborah Pratt).

The fourth season had an entirely different cast. "The White Lotus" was named after a holiday resort chain. "Cobra Kai" was the name of a group of karate dojos. "Bones" was the nickname of the lead character, forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan.

Answer: Building to the Sky

"Building to the Sky" was an Australian TV documentary series that aired first in France in 2019. Lisa Kay was the narrator. In six episodes, the series explored why men keep building ever higher skyscrapers, and the history of some of the best known of these buildings.

4. "Pie in the Sky" was a British detective series starting in 1994. Why such a weird title for a detective series?

Answer: It was the name of the restaurant opened by former Detective Inspector Henry Crabbe

Detective Inspector Henry Crabbe (played by Richard Griffiths) decided to choose another career after 25 years of crime solving. So he and his wife Margaret (role by Maggie Steed) opened a restaurant named "Pie in the Sky". But Crabbe's former colleagues were not pleased losing such an experienced sleuth, so they manoeuvred him into continuing his detective job part-time. In February 1998 in Brussels, Bill Gates was hit by a cream pie in the face. .

His assailant Noel Godin is famed for such stunts, but he declared he uses only soft sponge cakes topped with whipped cream, so not to injure the target.
5. Who presented the BBC documentary series "The Life Of Birds"?

Answer: David Attenborough

David Attenborough (born 1926) was one of the key names in natural documentary series. In 1979 he embarked on his all-encompassing "Life" series of documentaries: "Life on Earth", "The Living Planet", "The Trials of Life", "Life in the Freezer", "The Private Life of Plants", "The Life of Birds", "The Life of Mammals", "Life in the Undergrowth" and "Life in Cold Blood". But his greatest achievements were probably the high-definition series "Planet Earth" and "Planet Earth II".
In "The Life of Birds" (1998) Attenborough researched many aspects of avian life, such as "The Mastery of Flight" and "Signs and Signals".
Alice Roberts (born 1973) is best known for presenting documentary series on history and archaeology, such as "Origins of Us" and "Ice Age Giants".
Carl Sagan (1934-1996) was an astronomer, best known for his documentary series "Cosmos".

6. Which TV series starred Pauline Quirke and Linda Robson as two sisters?

Answer: Birds of a Feather

"Birds of a Feather" is indeed about two sisters, Sharon (role by Pauline Quirke) and Tracey (played by Linda Robson). But these were not average sisters: the series started when both their husbands were imprisoned for armed robbery. At that moment, Sharon decided to move into her elder sister's home.
"'Allo 'Allo" was a parody on wartime resistance. The leading actresses were Carmen Silvera and Vicki Michelle.
"Absolutely Fabulous" starred Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders, portraying a fashion director and a PR agent.
"Are You Being Served?" was set in a department store. Leading actresses were Mollie Sugden and Wendy Richard.
7. According to the TV series, where was the base of "The Flying Doctors"?

Answer: Cooper Crossing

Whilst there is indeed a small town named Coopers Crossing in Western Australia, it is not (in real life) an airport base for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
"The Flying Doctors" was a TV series about members of the RFDS, an organization that (in real life) takes care of medical interventions and medical transport in the Australian outback.
As the Australian outback is very large, most of the interventions by the RFDS are executed with airplanes.
In the TV series "The Flying Doctors" (1986-1992) the main roles were for Lenore Smith (nurse Kate Wellings), Robert Grubb (Dr. Geoff Standish) and Maurie Fields (Vic Buckley, the innkeeper at Cooper Crossing).
"Dallas" (1978-1991) was a soap opera about oil tycoons.
"Twin Peaks" (1989-1991) was a TV mystery series.
"Palm Springs" (2020) was a romantic movie.
8. What was the second part of the title of the mini-series "Red Tail Angels" (2020)?

Answer: The Story of the Tuskegee Airmen

"Red Tail Angels: The Story of the Tuskegee Airmen" was a documentary series on the military airmen (pilots, navigators, mechanics...), mostly from African-American descent, who fought in World War II. These people received their flight training near Tuskegee, Alabama and were deployed in the 332d Fighter Group or in the 477th Bombardment Group.
The TV series included interviews with many people involved, including several of the Tuskegee airmen themselves (at least those who survived the war long enough to give interviews).
Although IMDb lists as subtitle only the part I've mentioned as correct answer, player jickie reamrked that the official trailer photo lists as full subtitle "The Story and Legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen". So you can use the even longer title as well.
"Grimm: Love Is in the Air" (2014) was a web mini-series inspired by the fantasy police series "Grimm".
"Showdown: Air Combat" (2008) was a historical documentary series about fighter pilots in general.

9. From which country came the historical romance "Painter of the Wind" starring Moon Geun-Young and Shin-Yang Park?

Answer: South Korea

"Painter of the Wind" was inspired by the lack of information on the personal life of the historic painter Shin Yun-Bok (1758-1813). There was even a rumour that this Korean painter was a woman instead of a man. The TV series took this rumour for reality, and started with Shin Yun-Bok (role by Moon Geun-Young) dressing up as a man in order to attend the Korean art academy.

Her mentor Kim Hong-Do (played by Shin-Yang Park) soon fell in love with this promising pupil, but tried to hide his feelings because (at that time and place) the love between two males was a taboo. Gradually the mentor and pupil discovered the truth about the death of Shin's parents (murdered as witnesses to a political complot) and the true nature of who they were...
10. In which TV mini-series were the main characters played by Robert Mitchum, Polly Bergen, Ali MacGraw and Jan-Michael Vincent?

Answer: The Winds of War

"The Winds of War" (1983) was TV mini-series about the family Henry, an American navy family who closely observed the European events between 1933 and 1941. Robert Mitchum played Victor Henry, a naval attaché to Germany but longing to command a battleship. Polly Bergen played his wife Rhoda. Ben Murphy played the eldest Henry son, Warren, who volunteered for piloting on aircraft carriers. Jan-Michael Vincent played Byron Henry, the youngest son, who studied Renaissance art and fell in love for the Jewish girl Natalie Jastrow (played by Ali MacGraw). When Germany invaded Poland, Byron and Natalie were visiting Natalie's family near Krakow...
In a sequel "War and Remembrance", we find the Henry family during the Second World War after the bombing of Pearl Harbour. In this sequel Ali MacGraw was replaced by Jane Seymour, and Hart Bochner replaced Jan-Michael Vincent as Byron Henry - now an officer on submarines.
Polly Bergen was a guest star in "Touched by an Angel" (1998).
Robert Mitchum is best known as a movie actor, but he also played a guest role in the TV series "The Marshal".
Ali MacGraw, best known for her lead role in the movie "Love Story" (1970), played a guest role in "Dynasty" in 1985.
