Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How old is Sabrina when she becomes a witch?

Answer: 16

Full witches are witches as soon as they are born. Sabrina is half mortal (her father is a witch but her mother is a regular woman), so her witch powers don't come into effect until she turns 16. The night of her 16th birthday, she starts levitating but she doesn't know it (only her aunts see it). The next morning, her aunts try to convince her that she's a witch and they warn her not to point at anything, but she doesn't believe them.

At school, she points at things and strange things happen. One example: she accidentally brings a frog back to life in biology class when she was supposed to dissect it. She just brushes these things off (she just assumed the frog was already alive). When she gets home from school, her aunts give her a big book of magical spells. She continues to be annoyed by them trying to convince her that she's a witch, but when she opens the book, she sees her father. When he finds out that she refuses to believe her aunts, she takes the book to her room and she talks to her father privately, and she finally believes she's a witch.

When she goes back down and tells her aunts that she now believe she's a witch, they try to teach her spells. All she can do is turn things into pineapples. The next day at school in the cafeteria, she has an encounter with the school bully, Libby. At the end of the encounter, Sabrina accidentally turns Libby into a pineapple. When Sabrina brings the pineapple home and explains what happened, Zelda turns it back into Libby (even though Hilda wanted to slice up the pineapple). Libby threatens to tell the entire school that Sabrina kidnapped her and forced her into her aunts' house. Hilda convinces the witches' council to turn back time so Sabrina can repeat the previous day. This time, she uses her magic to squirt water in Libby's face before Libby can try anything. At the end of the Pilot, Sabrina is proud to be a witch.
2. The truth sprinkles cause Jenny to reveal what?

Answer: she has a crush in Harvey

Sabrina asks Zelda for some truth sprinkles so she can find out why Libby was spreading lies about her. Zelda reveals that they are hidden in a secret cabinet in the kitchen behind a talking painting of a woman named Louisa. Sabrina brings them to cooking class and puts them on her/Jenny's cake. She then offers a piece of the cake to Libby, who reluctantly eats it.

After that, Sabrina asks Libby what she was telling people about her and Jenny. Libby admitted she'd been spreading lies about them. Libby also told Sabrina some embarrassing truths about Libby's best friends. They get angry with her and they turn on her. That makes Sabrina happy, but then she found out that the teacher took the sprinkles and put them on all the cakes, then she took a cake to the faculty lounge and put sprinkles on there. This causes everybody to reveal some secrets.

Then, Sabrina and Jenny decide to eat their own cake. After Jenny does, she admitted that she wanted to go on a date with Harvey and she thought Sabrina wouldn't mind because Sabrina said she only liked him as a friend. Sabrina says she's okay with that when she's not.

At home, after discovering that her niece is going through a crisis, Zelda makes her a cake and puts sprinkles on it. After eating the cake, Sabrina admits to Zelda that she should never have told Jenny that she's okay with them dating. Sabrina then leaves the house.

Harvey and Jenny discover that they don't have much in common. When Sabrina shows up, everything seems better. Jenny tells Harvey that she is no longer interested in him and then Sabrina and Harvey play foosball together.
3. What does Sabrina accidentally do to the baby that she was babysitting?

Answer: turns him into a man

In one episode, Sabrina gets a babysitting job. When she has trouble getting the baby to go to sleep, she holds him and says "Be a big boy" three times and then puts him in the bed. Little did she know she was casting a spell. As soon as she left the room, the boy turned into a grown man (though he still couldn't do much besides cry like a baby).

She took him to the PTA meeting where her aunts were to solve the problem.
4. When Sabrina tells her elders that she is going to use her magic to help people, they tell her that good things will happen.

Answer: False

The answer to the question is in the name of the episode, "Terrible Things." It's called that because Salem, Hilda, and Zelda all tell Sabrina that terrible things will happen if she uses her magic unselfishly.

When Salem accuses Sabrina of being selfish with her magic, she decides to use her magic to do three good things for people she cares about. First, she casts a spell which makes Jenny become class president. Secondly, she causes an injury to a football player (a guy who was being disrespectful to another student) so that Harvey can get in the starting line-up. Lastly, she casts a spell so that Mr. Pool can learn how to turn lead into gold so he can be rich. None of these things turn out well. Jenny quickly learns that a class president does not have the power to do any of the things she wants to do for the school. Harvey gets injured in the game. The third spell makes Mr. Pool happy, but then Sabrina gets called to the witches' council and Drell informs her that spells can destroy the Earth. He gives her 24 hours to undo these spells (the number drops down to 16 when Hilda turns him down for a date), which she does.
5. What is Hilda and Zelda's favorite holiday?

Answer: Halloween

The episode begins with Hilda and Zelda singing Halloween carols. It's their favorite holiday because they are witches and Halloween celebrates witches. Sabrina did not like Halloween in the early seasons of the show.

Sabrina didn't enjoy much of the Halloween party in this episode, but one thing she did enjoy: her aunts gave her a gift that she could use to bring a dead person back to life on Halloween. Sabrina used this to bring back her maternal grandmother. The two of them share a very wholesome and happy moment together.

Another thing Sabrina enjoyed: on Salem's advice, she made a clone of herself and sent the clone to Harvey's Halloween party. The clone was tricked into streaking in Harvey's backyard, but the real Sabrina arrived and tricked everyone into thinking that Libby was the one who streaked.
6. In "Dream Date," were Sabrina and Harvey able to confess their love for each other?

Answer: No

There's a school dance and Sabrina wants to go with Harvey. Harvey doesn't want to go to the dance because he doesn't like dancing, but when Libby asks him to go with her, he says yes (he admits that he has trouble saying no to people). When Sabrina is home, she is distraught by this and decides not to go to the dance. Hilda and Zelda cheer her up by building a teenage boy with magic.

The boy is handsome and very enthusiastic and he will live for four hours. Sabrina goes to the dance with him. Harvey goes to the dance, but refuses to dance with Libby.

While dancing with her dream date, Sabrina notices Harvey by himself. Harvey leaves the building and Sabrina goes outside to talk to him. They talk with each other but fail to get their true feelings out. Meanwhile, Sabrina's dream date dances with Libby.

He leaves when he realizes he's about to die, and he dies in the parking lot (he just falls apart and turns). Libby is distraught, thinking that he broke up with her.
7. Which character, played by Raquel Welch, is mentioned in a few episodes throughout the series but only appears in one of them?

Answer: Vesta

Vesta is a sister to Hilda, Zelda, and Sabrina's father, and she's another one of Sabrina's aunts. She lives in the pleasure dome in the other realm. It's a place where people can have fun all the time. Sabrina goes to live with her for a little while.

She enjoys it at first, and then she doesn't. One problem she has is the one rule: no mortals. She cannot invite Jenny or Harvey there. Additionally, she had planned to hang out with Jenny in the evening, but then she went to live with Vesta, and she felt terrible when she realized she never told Jenny of her change in plans. Lastly, Vesta kept trying to make Sabrina do things she didn't want to do (like star in a rock music video).

In the end, Sabrina goes back to live with Hilda and Zelda, which makes them very happy.
8. What does Sabrina do to Joel?

Answer: Make him invisible

Sabrina gets a job as an assistant to Magic Joel, a mortal boy who wants to be a magician when he grows up. He's good enough to get a gig in the school cafeteria. However, he gets nervous when he performs, and the cafeteria performance goes badly. Sabrina uses her real magic to turn Joel invisible so that at least the last trick works well.

When Joel learns that he is invisible, he runs all around the school and wreaks all kinds of havoc. In the end, Sabrina finally catches him and gives him a potion that makes him visible again.
9. In the science club, who stands up to Libby?

Answer: Gordie

Libby bullies Gordie throughout the early part of the episode because he's a member of the science club. In an attempt to make Libby empathize with him and all the other members of the science club, Sabrina casts a spell on Libby which turns Libby into a glasses-wearing, asthmatic science enthusiast. This makes Libby's cheerleader friends turn against her and a boy whom she has a crush on calls her by a word that she doesn't like. She runs into the bathroom to cry. Sabrina goes into the bathroom to talk to her. At first, when she hears Libby talking, Sabrina thinks that Libby has learned the lesson that Sabrina wanted her to learn (that all people deserve to be treated with respect). It turns out that Libby just learned that she can turn the science club into bullies. So then Libby and the other members of the science club start bullying the cheerleaders.

When Jenny tells Sabrina that Libby doesn't care what group she is in as long as she can exclude and bully people, Sabrina gets an idea. She uses her magic to turn herself, Jenny, Harvey, and several other people into science enthusiasts. They all join the science club. Mr. Pool is thrilled to see so many people joining the science club as he thinks it's a result of his teaching. Libby is upset that she's not in charge of the club and cannot exclude people, so she quits the club and becomes a cheerleader again.

In one scene, most of the science club hails Libby as their leader, but Gordie says "She's not my leader." Libby gets angry and looks at him. He bravely says to her face that she is a bully and he refuses to call her his leader.
10. When Salem gets kidnapped, how does Sabrina rescue him?

Answer: By pretending to be Santa Claus

In the first Christmas episode, "A Girl and Her Cat," Salem reads Sabrina's diary and claws her favorite sweater, making her angry with him. When she goes to the pizza place for a date with Harvey, Salem stows away in her purse. The evening goes well (Sabrina and Harvey have a good date and Salem looks around the place unnoticed) until a mouse appears. Salem chases the mouse, revealing his presence in the building not only to Sabrina, but to the manager as well. Cats are not allowed in the building, so the manager bans Sabrina and sends her and Salem out the back door.

It's worth noting that Sabrina returns to the pizza place in later episodes. It's also worth noting that the place has a different manager in later episodes. My theory is that this manager was fired because there was a mouse in the building and he pretended not to notice it, and the new manager lifted Sabrina's ban.

Anyway, Sabrina and Salem get even angrier with each other after this. He refuses to go home with her and she is content to leave him stranded there. She goes home. Salem stays there for a while, then he tries to go home, but he gets hit by a bicycle. The rider of the bike, a kid named Rex who speaks with a lisp, kidnaps him and takes him home. Rex hides Salem in his room and his father agrees to keep the presence of the cat a secret because Rex's mother won't let him have a cat.

Salem calls Sabrina to let him know that he's been kidnapped, but he doesn't give a good description of where he is. Rex takes the phone from Salem and speaks to Sabrina, telling him that this cat belongs to him now. Sabrina discovers that the boy is named Rex and he has a lisp. Sabrina and her aunts knock on a lot of doors and most of them don't have him. When she gets to one door, she notices that the boy at the door has a lisp and his mother calls him "Rex." This is when Sabrina discovers that she has found the right home, but he won't give up the cat and his mother won't help because she doesn't even know that Salem is there.

Sabrina then comes up with a plan to rescue Salem. She dresses up as Santa Claus, gets a bag full of presents, and then she magically appears in Rex's closet. She gives Rex the presents and tries to convince him to let Salem go. When Rex refuses to do this, Sabrina opens the bag and gives a subtle hint to Salem about what he should do. Salem gets in the bag, Sabrina returns to the closet, and magically disappears. Sabrina is thrilled to have Salem back home and Salem is happy to be back home. Meanwhile, Rex is devastated to lose his cat, and his parents are confused about why he has a spatula and a Neil Diamond CD.
