"The Amazing Race 36" [1] Trivia Quiz

Answer: On the beach

Thirteen new teams headed to their bags on Playa El Salado to start this race, departing with Phil's go at the beginning of the course. Phil let the racers know that not only would this race see the use of the COVID-19 "Amazing Race" charter plane, but there would be no non-elimination legs on the race course, meaning every placement counted. Once they donned their bags, they raced out on foot from the Westin Resort & Spa and located their clues at their vehicles in the parking lot.

This first clue had them search for the Voladores on the Malecón for their next route marker.

Answer: Rocking horses

Finding the Voladores pole near the water in Downtown Puerto Vallarta, racers opened their first Detour clue and needed to make an early choice. Racers who chose to complete the 'Pick 'Em Up' option worked around the boardwalk to enjoy the local art. Teams first needed to locate a storage site at the top of a nearby hill then, on foot, they needed to transport two large rocking horses down the cobblestone streets to the waterfront.

The could trade them for their next clue once they removed the wheels from the deliveries. Derek and Sheliza, Yvonne and Melissa, Anthony and Bailey, Amber and Vinny, Angie and Danny, and Michelle and Sean, and Sunny and Bizzy made it in time to complete this task.

Answer: Five

Teams who opted to complete the 'Pin 'Em Down' Detour option in Leg 1 needed to proceed to Plaza Hidalgo to watch the lucha libres perform their wrestling feats. For this task, racers needed to watch a forty-second match in the local ring and, using nothing more than their memories and a series of pictures, match the masks of the fighters to one another based on their match-ups in the fight. If they could get all ten fighters in the right spots they would get their next clue. Ricky and Cesar, Rod and Leticia, Kishori and Karishma, Chris and Mary, Juan and Shane, and Maya and Rohan made the matches.

Answer: A hat

Leaving their Detour tasks, racers drove themselves to the arena at Lienzo Charro Miguel "Prieto" Ibarria to find their first Road Block of the competition. There, racers found that they were at the rodeo and they needed to pick one team member who wouldn't mind 'feeling loopy'. For this task, the selected racers had to jump into the ring wearing a sombrero and a handkerchief, and hop through seven lassos being spun by authentic charros. Rod, Cesar, Derek, Karishma, Danny, Yvonne, Shane, Sean, Anthony, Sunny, Mary, Vinny, and Rohan were selected for this task.

Answer: Maya and Rohan

If racers could avoid getting tangled up during their Road Block tasks they could drive themselves to Phil and the mat at the race's first Pit Stop, back at the Puerto Vallarta waterfront at Plaza de Los Arcos del Malecón. Rod and Leticia left the Road Block fastest and checked in before all the other teams, winning this first leg. To their surprise and the surprise of all teams following them, however, they were handed a clue and told to keep on racing through the city.

Despite this, Maya and Rohan, who arrived in last, were told that this would still be an elimination leg; they were removed from the race in thirteenth place.

Answer: La Iguana Bridge

The twelve teams still racing into Leg 2 ripped open their clues as soon as they stepped on the mat and were told to head directly to La Iguana Bridge. To do this they had to proceed on foot through Puerto Vallarta, heading into Zona Romántica to find their next clue box waiting directly in the bridge's center.

Teams were also informed that they would be travelling on foot for the remainder of this leg.

Answer: Six

Opening their clues on Iguana Bridge, racers found the Detour, and with this a number of teams tackled the 'Balloon Collection' task. Visiting Isla Cuale, racers had to run through the marketplace collecting bundles of balloons for a local fiesta. If they could obtain and deliver six bunches (two red, two purple, two yellow), they'd get their clue at the delivery spot near the start of their journey.

The majority of teams finished this challenge, opting for the exhausting task instead of the detail-oriented one.

Answer: One

Racers who chose to complete the 'Color Correction' Detour task didn't need to travel quite as far. While they remained at Isla Cuale, they instead had to locate a plaza covered with overhead strands of papel picado. Teams had to search through the colourful space to find a string of ten colours that did not match the others (with an example at their disposal), taking it down and delivering it to the party planner to get their next clue. Only Sunny and Bizzy finished this task.

Answer: Skull

Completing the Detour, racers needed to proceed on foot to Lázaro Cárdenas Park to locate their next clue box and there, ripping open their Road Block clues, they had to choose one person 'with a skeleton in their closet'. For this task, racers had to join in the Day of the Dead festivities by face painting their partner with a proper calavera skull design.

Leticia, Ricky, Sheliza, Michelle, Kishori, Juan, Melissa, Bailey, Amber, Danny, Bizzy, and Mary completed this task.

Interestingly, Michelle and Kishori started this task early, having found the clue box at the park before the Detour at the bridge. They had to complete the Detour before returning to finish the task.

Answer: Chris and Mary

Once racers finished the Road block they needed to don monarch butterfly costumes then proceed on foot to the next Pit Stop, Puerto Vallarta's Casa Kimberly, the combined former homes of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Racers could check in under the Bridge of Love there if they could locate the landmark. Rod and Leticia managed to sustain their lead this leg, checking in first to win a five night trip for two to Lisbon, Portugal courtesy of Expedia's cashback rewards.

After an exhausting leg in the sweltering heat, Chris and Mary were last to reach the Pit Stop mat and they were eliminated from the race in twelfth position.
