Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Leg 8 started with a Road Block in Bridgetown, Barbados. How many points did team members need to score playing road tennis?

Answer: Eleven

Between Legs 7 and 8, the final six teams were flown from Montevideo, Uruguay to the capital city of Barbados, Bridgetown where they started their day (with rain) at one of Bridgetown's two bridges, Chamberlain Bridge, opening their first clue in groups of two. Hopping into soft-top vehicles, they had to drive themselves to the intersection of Parkinson and Fairfield to find their Road Block, a task that had them scoring eleven points in road tennis to get their next clue. Ricky, Angie, Yvonne, Leticia, Juan, and Vinny completed this one.
2. In Bridgetown, racers visited the childhood home of which pop star?

Answer: Rihanna

Racers leaving the Road Block were able to hop back into their vehicles and hit the road again, this time looking for the childhood home of Barbadian celebrity Rihanna, who spent the first decades of her life in Bridgetown. Once racers located this bright, renovated house, they could collect another Route Info clue, this one sending them to the south end of the island to the parish of Christ Church.
3. Which of these was the only team to complete the 'Seaweed Clearing' Detour option in Barbados (in Leg 8)?

Answer: Juan and Shane

Reaching Christ Church parish, racers located Long Bay Beach to find a clue box containing their Detour clue. In the 'Seaweed Clearing' option, racers embarked on a highly physical task that had them joining the cleanup effort along the waterfront. Heading to the beach, racers grabbed a wheelbarrow, gloves, and rakes, and headed down the sand to a marked area covered in invasive sargassum seaweed. Travelling up and down the beach with full barrows, racers needed to collect enough of the plant to fill a barrel, freeing up the beachfront for local wildlife to lay their eggs. Only Juan and Shane completed this task.
4. Racers completing the 'Fish Pot Building' Detour option in Leg 8 were supplied with tamarind and which of these materials?

Answer: Wire mesh

The second of the Detour tasks was 'Fish Pot Building', a task that had willing racers head down to the water's edge to follow an ongoing demonstration and use rudimentary supplies (tamarind rods and wire mesh) to create what the locals call a fish pot. If racers could create a sturdy-enough device, they would get their next clue. Ricky and Cesar, Yvonne and Melissa, Amber and Vinny, Rod and Leticia, and Angie and Danny finished this task.
5. Which team was last to land on the Pit Stop mat in Barbados at the end of Leg 8?

Answer: Angie and Danny

As reward for completing their Detour tasks, racers received a postcard that they would need to use to identify and locate their Pit Stop destination, Hastings Rocks in Christ Church, Barbados. Once they drove to this seaside landmark, they could check in at the Pit Stop with Phil. Ricky and Cesar checked in at the Pit Stop first, winning their fifth leg of the race (and $7,500 USD each as a prize), but Angie and Danny, unable to make up time after the production issue and having fallen behind at the Detour, landed on the mat last and were not spared from elimination.
6. Leg 9 of the race sent teams to the Dominican Republic. Did they start the leg in Santo Domingo?

Answer: No

Between Legs 8 and 9, teams were flown to the island of Hispaniola to complete tasks in the Dominican Republic, and heading out in two groupings from the river beneath Puente Peatonal Saltos Damajagua, teams found that they would have to proceed on foot through the jungle to locate their clue box. With only five teams left in the race, the first two teams left in the first group and all three trailing teams left together fifteen minutes later.
7. For the first Road Block in Leg 9, racers had to identify petroglyphs written in the language of which indigenous people of the Dominican Republic?

Answer: Taino

Teams finished their hike through the jungle to find a Road Block awaiting them at the end of the trail (at 27 Charcos de la Damajagua). Here, one member of each team had to be picked to 'see the writing on the wall', and for this challenge, the selected racers had to make their way into a river canyon and proceed through the watery course keeping their eyes peeled for ten Taino petroglyphs on the route.

At the end of the trail, using twenty symbols provided, they needed to recall the order they saw them in and pick the ten correct ones. Juan, Cesar, Amber, Rod, and Melissa completed this task.
8. In the Dominican Republic, racers collected which of these crops for a clue?

Answer: Cacao

Completing the petroglyph Road Block, teams hopped into waiting vehicles and proceeded to the town of Altamira to partake in an active Route Info task. Locating Don Manuel's Finca de Cacao, racers needed to head into the cacao farm, collecting ripe pods from the trees there (using a long scythe) and bringing them back to their station.

After removing the seeds from their pods they could place their harvest on a provided tarp, trading the full tarp for their next clue.
9. A second Road Block in Leg 9 had teams playing what sport in Puerto Plata?

Answer: Baseball

Completion of the cacao task had racers proceeding by private vehicle to the statue of Estadio Bartolo Colón to locate a second Road Block for this ninth leg of the race (that could be completed by any teammate). For this task, racers joined local baseball players for a series of training sessions playing the national sport. First, racers had to catch and toss a ground ball.

Then, racers had to catch a high flyball. Finally, racers needed to use a broomstick to hit a bottlecap pitched to them, knocking it twenty-five feet away. Completion of all three would get them their next clue. Ricky, Rod, Shane, Vinny, and Yvonne finished this task.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in fifth place, leaving in the end of Leg 9?

Answer: Yvonne and Melissa

After the second Road Block in Leg 9, racers jumped into taxis and made their way to Paseo de Doña Blanca in Puerto Plata for one last clue. This one would be the one to send them on foot to their ninth Pit Stop, the Anfiteatro de Puerto Plata on the edge of the Caribbean. Ricky and Cesar managed to keep ahead of the other teams to claim their third consecutive win (and their sixth overall), this time receiving a trip for two to Seoul, South Korea courtesy of Expedia. Falling behind from the first Road Block, Yvonne and Melissa remained at the back of the pack, unable to overtake the other teams.

It spelled their elimination.
