Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mary's father refers to her by what affectionate name?

Answer: Chickadee

Young Mary, struggling to fall asleep, hears the sound of scratching under her bed before a loud bang-- the crash of something hitting her metal bedframe-- causes her to jolt up. Terrified, she sneaks out of her bedroom only to be caught by her father while he's watching scary movies in the living room. He reminds her that there's nothing actually under her bed, but she insists. He says he'll make her a special breakfast if she's brave enough to go to bed, and with that, she returns to her room and gets tucked back in.

After her father leaves, the scratching resumes; claws rake across the bedsprings beneath her as she screams in terror.

Elsewhere, Jillian awakens from a horrible nightmare.
2. Where is Jillian hiding her birth control pills?

Answer: Behind the medicine cabinet

When Jillian awakens from her dream, her husband, Mark, is already awake next to her. After comforting her, he reminds that it's the time of the month they need, again, to try for a baby. Mark suggests that the nightmare is a recurring excuse; it happens every time she's ovulating. They both agreed they wanted to try, at the least, and she concedes that she did make a promise to him.

Shortly after, Jillian sneaks one of her birth control pills, hiding the blister pack into a crack between the wall and the medicine cabinet. She narrowly avoids getting caught when Mark comes into the room.
3. Are Jillian and Megan related?

Answer: Yes

Heading to work, Jillian confides in her sister, Megan, that she's been having her bad dreams again. Megan attempts to infer that there's great symbolism behind the contents of these nightmares, but Jillian rationalizes that it's simply an unspecified parasomnia disorder...some of which she may act out in real life. Megan's ready to be an aunt though; she reminds Jillian that it's a good time to get pregnant.

That night, Jillian and Mark try again, even though Jillian's not really into it. Things stop the second they feel a bump shake from under the bed though; both of them feel it. When Mark checks underneath, something grabs him and pulls him into the darkness. Though Jillian tries to pull him out from under the now-empty bed, she can't seem to get purchase. All that's left behind, until sunrise, are streaks of blood.
4. After Mark's disappearance, Jillian researches similar odd occurrences. She finds a few, and by coincidence, all of the victims have what in common?

Answer: They were all located nearby

After the events that befell Jillian and Mark, Jillian became a suspect in Mark's disappearance. Megan, returning home, finds a detective parked out front, opting to film him with her phone in case there's a lawsuit down the line. Jillian seems non-plussed by the situation. At least, both of them agree, the reporters have moved on. In the meantime, she's living with Megan at her place.

In the meantime, Jillian researches what she can, finding cases online of missing people who vanished in the night, seemingly disappearing under their bed. One woman, Samantha Blair, vanished three months ago near where they live-- same circumstances. Despite these leads, Megan warns that this searching doesn't seem like a healthy habit to take on. Jillian believes that all of this happened for a reason though, and she seeks the truth.
5. It appears that Jillian, in the month since Mark's disappearance, has been receiving which of these?

Answer: Hate mail

Jillian, pursuing her leads, stops at the Blair household to ask about Samantha's disappearance. While she speaks to Samantha's mother, failing to get any info, Detective Watts comes up to her and tells her to stop pestering the locals. The case, he claims, is somewhat open and shut; there's always evidence in a marriage dispute and he will find it and leave it to the jury to do what they must.

When Jillian returns home, she and Megan have an honest discussion. Megan believes it could blow over, especially since Jillian and Mark were so in love, but Jillian admits that she was on the pill at the time of the disappearance, a fact that she withheld from the police. The discussion is interrupted when a chickadee flies into the window.

Shortly after, Megan asks, point blank, if there's even a remote chance that Jillian harmed Mark in one of her nightmare states. The argument escalates and, as Jillian prepares to leave, Megan reveals that she's been hiding a stack of hate mail from people in the neighbourhood.
6. Niles Taylor works for which of these?

Answer: The hospital

Amongst the hate mail, Jillian finds a note written on hospital letterhead from a man named Niles Taylor who, succinctly, says "I know what happened to you." Megan tells her not to go after crazy people, but Jill knows it's someone who believes her.

When Jillian arrives at St. Benjamin's and meets Niles, it turns out that she recognizes him from somewhere. He quickly expresses regret in reaching out to her and informs her that he could lose his job. When she insists that the disappearances could keep happening, however, he allows her to follow him to a nearby room. There's someone there who may be the key to everything that's been happening.
7. Mary, as Jillian discovers, has been in a coma for how long?

Answer: Ten years

When Jillian steps into a nondescript hospital room, Niles introduces here to Mary Gentile, a young woman who's been in a coma for the past ten years. We don't know, he says, what happens in the mind of a coma patient, but on the nights where she has nightmares, odd things start happening; lights flick on and off; machines go haywire. During one of these, Niles saw it-- whatever it is-- crawling out from underneath the bed. He was able to run away, but by the time security arrived, nothing was there. He never saw that thing again.

Jillian and Niles are able to determine that all of the spikes in Mary's vitals correspond to the dates of the past disappearances. The next step, Jillian figures, is to travel out to where Mary lived, ten years ago, to search for more answers. She used to live with her dad out on State Route 6, so that's where she heads next.
8. Was there ever actually something or someone under Mary's bed?

Answer: Yes

Jillian reaches Mary's old house to find the place dilapidated and sealed shut. She breaks in, of course, and lets herself look around to find it not completely empty. As it turns out, Mary's father is inside, waiting, with a bat, but Jillian is able to keep him from attacking her by explaining that she knows about the night Mary fell into a coma-- after all, she'd dreamt about it.

That night, as her father explains, Mary's sensitivity and vivid dreams came to a head about 'the thing under the bed', but it was because there was someone there. His name was Jacob Holler, and as it was discovered, he was an escaped mental patient who crept into the window and hit beneath the mattress. Mary's father was able to get into the room just in time to pull him away and choke him to death. Mary was never the same after that.

Jillian asks if she can stay and look around more in hopes that answers might emerge and she is allowed to do so. When Mary's father departs, however, she decides to lay down in Mary's old bed, now just a mattress on the floor, and fall asleep.
9. Who, of these, does not appear to be connected in the subconscious dreamworld?

Answer: Megan

When Jillian closes her eyes she finds herself emerging in a subconscious dreamworld with Mary there waiting. As she explains, people like them, who can feel these dreams in excess, are evolved, and there are a lot of them who wander in and out of this world. Jillian asks about the night that Mark was taken, but Mary puts herself into an awful state over this, forcing Jillian to wake up and out of the dream. She phones Niles, who awakens as well, and the two of them realize that Mary could be the one hurting all these people.

Jillian eventually comes across the most recent victim...or at least, his family. A young boy goes missing but Jillian recognizes his sister from the dream world. Detective Watts, on the scene, tells her that she shouldn't be there. And worse, they found her birth control pills in their hiding spot, giving motive for the crime she's allegedly committed.

Jill heads out from the crime scene and speaks to Niles at his home, theorizing that they can give her medication that suppresses her dreams, much like she was prescribed over the past several years. Niles worries that, since Mary is connected to their subconscious, she may already know their plan. That's when he receives a call from the hospital; Mary is having another nightmare. Unfortunately, Niles takes this call from next to his bed, and Jill rushes to find him already being taken.
10. Who, as it is discovered, was actually responsible for the disappearances?

Answer: Mary

Jillian tells Megan everything she's seen in the past day and explains the subconscious dreamworld in as vivid detail as she can and, to be fair, it's overwhelming. The catch is that Jillian knows that she's the only one who can fix things. She grabs a knife and returns to the hospital.

Before she arrives, Mary awakens from her coma while her father, in shock, alerts the nurses. They move her into another room, but Mary, knowing her battle isn't finished, forces herself back to sleep, allowing the thing under the bed to attack Jillian just as she arrives at Mary's old room.

Jillian and Mary encounter each other face-to-face as Mary, believing she acted in the right by killing Mark and setting Jillian free, explains that she is not the victim of this dream power, but the master of it. With neither of them relenting, Mary allows the spirit of Jacob Holler attack Jillian just as Megan, prompted by her sister's messages, arrives at the hotel to witness this occur. Megan can only watch, helplessly, as her sister is taken underneath the bed to vanish forever.

Elsewhere in the building, Mary reawakens. Her face takes on an evil grimace as she stares out the window.
