Between 1978 and 1991, no primetime soap opera had more viewers in the United States than "Dallas". The 1980 season ended on a cliffhanger when J.R. Ewing, played by Larry Hagman, was shot and everyone was asking "Who shot J.R.?" It was one of the most-viewed episodes in the 1980s.

The story of the wealthy Ewing family, who owned the Southfork Ranch and Ewing Oil, included the brothers J.R. and Bobby. Among the cast was Barbara Bel Geddes as the family matriarch and Victoria Principal as Pam Barnes, the wife of Bobby.
2. Port Charles, Luke & Laura, Ricky Martin and Rick Springfield

"General Hospital" debuted in 1963 and has surpassed 16,000 episodes on television. In 1981, one episode had Luke, played by Anthony Geary, and Laura, played by Genie Francis, getting married.
