TV Comedies #2: Do You Remember These Props? Quiz

From 2007 to 2019, CBS ran the series "The Big Bang Theory" for 279 episodes. We discovered four socially awkward scientists and a beautiful waitress neighbor who made us laugh each week. The lead character, Sheldon Cooper, was played by Jim Parsons. He was a quirky genius and was known for wearing superhero-inspired memorabilia, including his "Bazinga" shirt in honor of The Flash.

Hard to believe, but "The Munsters" only ran for two seasons on CBS. Between 1964 and 1966, we learned about the family living on 1313 Mockingbird Lane. The series starred Fred Gwynne as a Frankenstein-like Herman Munster, Yvonne De Carlo as his vampire wife Lily, and their eccentric family.

Their home featured a dragon as a family pet and a cuckoo clock where a raven appeared in and out of it.

The finale of "M*A*S*H*" set Nielsen viewing records in 1983. The cherished CBS comedy began as a motion picture in 1970, and the television series ran from 1972 to 1983. The story of a mobile army surgical hospital set during the Korean War featured characters like Hawkeye Pierce, Radar O'Reilly, "Hot Lips" Houlihan, and Trapper John. You often saw their military boots and army tags throughout the series.

"Laverne & Shirley" was an ABC sitcom that was a spinoff of ABC's hit comedy "Happy Days". Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams starred as Laverne and Shirley, two bottle cappers working at the Shotz Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The series ran for eight seasons and 178 episodes and was frequently in the Top Ten of the weekly Nielsen Ratings.

Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor was the lead character on the ABC comedy that ran for eight seasons in the 1990s. Tim Allen played the role of "The Tool Man," who had a television show called "Tool Time" where he and his more capable assistant, Al Borland, demonstrated home repairs on air. The show also featured the debut of Pamela Anderson and later Debbie Dunning as their "Tool Time Girls".

Not too hard to match up this picture, but the ABC comedy that premiered in 2021 is primarily set in a Philadelphia Elementary School. The lead character is a teacher named Janine Teagues who is played by actress Quinta Brunson, who is also the creator of the sitcom.

The series takes the form of a mockumentary (like "The Office") where it appears to be a documentary in the making. "Abbott Elementary" also stars Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, and Sheryl Lee Ralph.

The legend of Al Bundy lived on in the FOX comedy "Married With Children". Actor Ed O'Neill played the role of Al Bundy, a frustrated shoe salesman married to his wife Peg and his two kids, Bud and Kelly. In the series, Al would often relive his glory days from high school when he ran for four touchdowns in a single game for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship.

Did you know that the 1970s sitcom "Sanford and Son" was actually based on a British sitcom called "Steptoe and Son," which ran for over a decade on BBC1. The American television comedy starred comedian Redd Foxx as Fred G. Sanford, a junkyard owner in South Central Los Angeles. His son was played by Demond Wilson as his son Lamont.

How successful was the CBS comedy "All In The Family"? It set a record as the most-watched television series of the year, based on Nielsen Ratings, for five consecutive years in the early 1970s. The lead character, Archie Bunker, had a drab-orange wingback chair that became so iconic it was placed in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. "All In The Family" pushed boundaries involving racism, social change, and the evolving attitudes of the 1970s.

"Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down. And I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there, I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Air". In the show's opening, we hear those words and see a taxi with California plates saying "FRESH" dropping off Philadelphia teenaged Will Smith into his new home in Bel-Air, California. Will was a street-wise character who was forced to live with his wealthy relatives on the West Coast.
