"Dynasty" and "Hill Street Blues" debuted in 1981 on American television. "Star Trek: The Next Generation"and "Full House" debuted in 1987. "Wheel Of Fortune" debuted in 1975 and the soap opera "General Hospital" debuted in 1963.
"The Cosby Show" told the story of the Huxtable family living in New York City. It starred Bill Cosby and was a consistent ratings favorite for NBC. "Miami Vice" was also on NBC and brought us two Miami detectives named Crockett and Tubbs. The show used MTV-styled music accompaniment and a pet alligator named Elvis!
New comedies that debuted in 1984 included "Charles In Charge", "Night Court", and "Who's The Boss". Scott Baio was watching a family's kids in "Charles In Charge" and Nicole Eggert was a prominent cast member. "Night Court" told the hilarious story of life inside a New York City courtroom at night. "Who's The Boss" featured Tony Danza as a live-in housekeeper in New England. The show also starred Judith Light and Alyssa Milano.
Kids television saw the debut of "The Transformers" and "Kids Incorporated" in 1984. "Transformers" was a cartoon that featured a war between the Autobots and the Decepticons. The series was later adapted to motion pictures. "Kids Incorporated" ran for ten seasons and starred some prominent future celebrities when they were younger. This list included Mario Lopez, Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, Martika, and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
"Murder She Wrote" starred Angela Lansbury as a mystery writer and an amateur detective. "Highway To Heaven" starred Michael Landon, famous for "Little House On The Prairie", as an angel on earth trying to help people in need. Both were juggernauts on the ratings chart.
"Santa Barbara" was a soap opera that ran for ten seasons on NBC. The series was set in California and featured the fictional wealthy Lockridge family.
