Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Merritt reveals to Lois, over dinner, that she's been cast on what reality TV show?

Answer: Half-Ton Trauma

Out to dinner with Lois, Merritt and Eddie decide to reveal some good news. Firstly, the pair admit to being in love. Secondly, they plan on moving in together, partly to provide Merritt with a support system while she makes her appearance on the TV show 'Half-Ton Trauma', which she'd been gunning for for weeks. Lois cynically speaks poorly of her relationship with Marshall before Merritt reveals that she's also moving into a gated community. It all seems to be looking up for Merritt, but Lois isn't thrilled. She commends their maturity and forthcomingness, but she turns her compliments into insults with ease, drinking more and more before claiming that she and Eddie once had a sexual affair. It's a lie, of course, and Eddie and Merritt both tell her to lay off, but she lays in instead.

Merritt offers to get Lois help, but Lois believes her daughter is a lost cause. She insinuates that Marshall was an adulterer, and that Merritt grew up to be like her father. None of her family is strong enough to make it. They won't survive in this world.

Eddie threatens to take Lois to rehab, but she refuses the suggestion. Instead she leaves, returning to her car, tossing the contents into the street, and driving off.
2. Lois decides to pull the plug on Marshall, and it's something she does without consultation from her daughter.

Answer: True

Heading to the hospital, Lois decides to speak to Dr. Lehman and pull the plug on Marshall, a move that the doctor suggests might be discussed with close family, like Merritt, before they actually go ahead with the decision. Lois insists on moving quicker, however, as she's reminded that Marshall lied to her constantly. After all, his mistress, working there at the hospital, is a reminder of this.

Coincidentally, Nurse Redd arrives at the office to ask what's transpiring in her absence. Lois doesn't mince words-- she's taking Marshall off life support whether she likes it or not. She even inquires as to whether or not it'll hurt, expressing remorse that it may not.

She leaves the office triumphant, heading out to the hall to grab some Red Vines from the vending machine before watching the proceedings.
3. Before Marshall is disconnected from his life support, Lois does which of the following?

Answer: Reads him poetry

Watching over Marshall, Lois seems thrilled to find that Nurse Redd is the one responsible for ending her husband's time on life support. The nurse is much more broken up over it. After all, two days earlier, Lois held a gun to her head, and now she has to do the deed. Lois wishes that she could have harmed her more.

Lois still gives her husband the grace of his favourites in his final moments, cracking open a book of Emily Dickinson poetry and sipping from a glass of whiskey. As Dr. Lehman watches on and Nurse Redd turns off the monitors, Lois tosses the book on her husband's corpse, raises a paper cup, and gives a final toast to the deceased. She sarcastically claims she grants forgiveness before grabbing her bag and leaving.
4. After Lois unmasks the killer, encountered at the milk bottling facility, who is it revealed to be?

Answer: Father Charlie

After the news breaks that Father Charlie was 'Grotesquerie', Lois stops by his church, encountering her crime scene investigators as they go through the evidence scattered throughout. One of her colleagues comments that she looks well; she explains that it's because she pulled the plug on Marshall and got the best sleep of her life.

As Lois passes through the corridors she comes across messy rooms of books, Charlie's living quarters, and a closet containing an operating ventilator-- something she doesn't think twice about. Lois calls the space an 'art studio'. Concerning photos rest on Father Charlie's desk; one room is covered, all along one wall, by Bibles open to various pages. A projector box, overlaid by transparent sheets of archaic writing, seems to read 'WAKE UP'. There's enough evidence to prove the priest's involvement.

Lois receives a call from the Governor congratulating her on solving the case. Lois isn't so sure, however, that it's completely over with.
5. Sister Megan is told that readership of 'The Catholic Guardian' has skyrocketed, primarily because the crux of faith is which of these elements?

Answer: Terror

Sister Megan is brought before the fathers of the church to discuss 'The Catholic Guardian' and its unmitigated success as, since the story broke, readership has gone up 5,000%. Her support, to her shock, has made national news; it's viral. Better than that, people have come back to the church. It may be seen, she says, as a blessing.

Father Charlie, the priests say, was a disturbed and evil man, but he knew that the crux of faith was terror. People want to believe in God, and because of that, there's an appetite for the grotesque. Their ask, for her at least, is to keep giving the people what they crave.

Megan volunteers herself to be editor-and-chief and published of the paper, but with that, she asks for three new full-time writers, oversight, and autonomy. If they give her the keys, she'll succeed.
6. Chief Hanover indicates to Lois that she will be promoted due to her success in the Grotesquerie case.

Answer: False

Lois returns to the station to find that the office has thrown her a party to celebrate the closing of the Grotesquerie case, and she gives a half-hearted toast to placate them. Sitting down with Chief Hanover, she indicates that she feels invigorated by the closure, suggesting that while she intended on retiring at the end of this case, she instead wants to go back over her old, unclosed case files and see what she might have missed.

There's a problem, however. Chief Hanover indicates that she won't ask Lois to retire. Instead, the officials above her have dropped the hammer. 65% of the office will be cut in the coming weeks due to emerging technologies in law enforcement, and Lois is expected to be amongst them. She lays the offer out on the table: Lois will get a full pension plus an additional severance, annually, for the rest of her life. This would come in addition to Marshall's pension and life insurance.

Lois storms out of the office as her boss tells her that the world is changing; she just needs to wake up to it. As she leaves, she notices that the party balloons in the office are actually 'Get Well' balloons.
7. Where does Lois reveal that she believes Sister Megan to be an accomplice to the murders?

Answer: In her own kitchen

Lois invites Sister Megan over for dinner to celebrate both of their successes in the recent days, and over drinks and meal prep, Lois notes that she's surprised with the quickness and ease with which Megan has recovered from the injuries she sustained at the motel. It's almost like it was planned that she was spared lasting damage; it was almost theatrical and showy that she was shot at all. The conversation leans in a particular direction as Lois hints at the fact that she thinks Sister Megan and Father Charlie could have been working together.

Sister Megan deflects, insisting that perhaps Lois has had a bit much to drink. Lois feels like everything is clear, however, since she's drawn the conclusions. Sister Megan was at each crime scene early; she had images found in Father Charlie's chambers. All signs point to her being an accomplice.

In an act of desperation, Sister Megan takes a knife and, speaking in tongues, charges at the detective. Lois is able to disarm her, only to lead the nun to rush for the gun in Lois' purse. Lois is able to get the upper hand, dragging her back into the kitchen and scalding her with the pot on the stovetop. It only takes one good stab though, and after Sister Megan finally impales Lois on a kitchen knife, she's able to keep stabbing, leaving the detective on the floor to bleed out before she can fire her gun.
8. In reality, Ed Lachlan is actually married to who of these?

Answer: Merritt

Over dinner, Merritt and Eddie inform Marshall of their plans to get divorced, a result of his infidelity, his alcoholism, and his poor job. It appears to have been a long time coming. He never thought he'd be a part of a good family, and when he was introduced to them, he wasn't sure how to act. The truth is that he'd been in an affair with Lois for two years, something Marshall never knew. Instead of hearing the two of them out further, Marshall leaves the meal.

He heads to the hospital instead, arriving to visit Lois who, having been in a coma, remains unconscious in her bed. He sits next to her and lets her know that he's felt they haven't been a strong, married couple since she started her affair. He always cared for her and visited her to watch over her, but he feels it's time to pull the plug. He takes the bouquet of flowers he left for her and tosses them into the trash before speaking to Dr. Lehman and announcing the plan. He wants to do it as soon as possible.
9. Marshall has been in a long-term affair with Cherry Redd, a former stripper. He bought her which of these?

Answer: An apartment

Angry, Marshall pays a visit to Cherry Redd, a stripper, now a cam girl, who he's been sleeping with for six years. She calls him out for being a hypocrite while she's live on her stream; he is, after all, paying for her apartment.

At the police station, Police Chief Megan Duval is informed that Andrea Salana's family is suing the department for not stepping in when they were informed, half a dozen times, of the domestic disturbance at her residence. Lois was the lead on the case at the time. In bringing up Lois, this is when Megan finds out that Marshall is pulling the plug. She states that she wants to be there.

Back at the hospital, Marshall signs the papers placed in front of him by Doctor Charles Mayhew while Merritt apologizes to her unconscious mother not just for the events about to unfold, but for everything else as well. She only wanted her mother's love.

As Megan shows up at the hospital, Marshall yells at her to leave. Ed arrives too, but Marshall tells him off too, locking himself and Merritt into Lois' room, depsite his daughter's pleas, and telling Dr. Mayhew to pull the plug immediately.
10. Does Lois awaken from her coma?

Answer: Yes

While Megan and Ed can only watch on from the door, Merritt begs her father to let them say their goodbyes and leave, something he refuses, even as she insists that she'll sue the hospital for negligent homicide. She runs out of recourse, however, and can only stand by apologizing to Lois as the doctor starts shutting down the machines. Merritt tells Marshall that he will lose both of them as a result of this decision. In the last moments, she plays Lois' favourite song on her phone.

Lois can hear the song deep in her subconscious, coming in on the wind through the kitchen window, as Sister Megan steps on her hand while she reaches for the gun. Lois fights back, knocking her down as the two of them wrestle for control, but with as many injuries as she's sustained, there's not much more she can do. In one last show of quick thinking, Lois sweeps Megan's legs out from under her, avoiding a fatal shot to the head, and brings herself to her feet to grab the gun and fire at the nun before she can get back up.

In the real world, Lois' heart rate doesn't seem to be slowing down fast enough. Although Dr. mayhew has turned the machines off, it appears that she's still breathing. She comes to as she fires the gun at Sister Megan's head, opening her eyes and awakening from her coma.
