Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lois admits to Marshall, while he's still comatose, that which of these are the only things keeping her together?

Answer: Uppers and vodka

Lois, stopping in at the hospital to check on Marshall and speak to him while he's in his coma, admits to him that the only things that are holding her together, these days, are uppers and vodka. It used to be him, at one point. She doesn't notice that Nurse Redd is on the other side of the curtain, listening in while she records her monologue.

The case appears to be taking Lois' mind almost completely. She won't be there everyday, she admits, because she needs to find the killer before the killer gets her. It's just as Grotesquerie says-- it will be the end.

In the other room, Nurse Redd realizes that she can leverage Lois' recording to make the case for her abandonment of her husband, and with that, she knows she'll get power of attorney over Marshall.
2. In his spare time, Father Charlie does which of these, online, for his parishioners?

Answer: Cycling classes

Father Charlie is online, leading his parishioners in an online cycling class-- an effort to bring in more followers in a more modern way. He doesn't realize that Sister Megan is watching until she flees down a nearby corridor at the end of his ride. He ends up taking a shower after his stream is complete, and as it turns out, Sister Megan isn't far behind, watching as he grabs a towel, claiming to be there for him to look at her next report.

The problem, he says, is that she can't run the story since there are no new leads to report; it's not enough of a draw. He apologizes, but he expects more out of her efforts.

Sister Megan follows the priest into his bedroom and compliments him for his video, claiming that he has a body that speaks to religious and physical prowess. Walking over to her, Charlie shuts the door and speaks to her about the benefits of disrupting what people know about their religion. And then the two of them give in to their shared attraction, even though it would be a sin, and frowned upon by the church.
3. Instead of taking Lois out on a date, he takes her where instead?

Answer: An AA meeting

Lois heads out from Marshall's room only to run into Eddie Laclan in the hall, heading out from his shift. Lois confides in the orderly that she believes Marshall is just circling the drain, but in the meantime, she apologizes for her behaviour the past days. She volunteers to bake him a cake for his kindness, but he asks her out on somewhat of a date instead.

The date turns out to be an unexpected Alcoholics Anonymous meetup. Lois sits with the others in the circle and listens to the other recovering addicts and struggles not to touch her flask, nervously wringing her hands on her pantlegs until Eddie holds one for her. After the meeting, she begs for something to eat. Ironically, she gets a martini instead.
4. Eddie reveals to Lois that, for a time, he lived where, working as a male stripper?

Answer: Alaska

Over dinner, Ed tells Lois that she needs to slow down her drinking, and he tells the story about how he was able to pull himself away from drinking. It starts with the fact that he used to love skiing until he tore his ligaments. When his injury ruined his pastime, he travelled to Juneau, Alaska and took up-- of all things-- male stripping. His name, there, was 'Big Peter'. It worked for the cruise ship crowd.

The problem is that, eventually, he ended up on the streets with that trajectory, and further to fall, but that eventually led him to finding a way out. He realized he needed to fight for his dignity, and that was the breaking point. He found something to live for, and he tells her she needs to keep that dignity, or she'll be in the same situation.

Eddie kindly drives Lois home and, instead of picking up a drink, she picks up the phone.
5. Lois and Father Charlie's first meeting takes place under which circumstances?

Answer: In a church confessional box

After contacting Sister Megan, Lois arranges a meeting with Father Charlie, and this brings her to a confessional booth in his church for a frank conversation about her fears and her actions as of late. He reassures Lois that their conversation is private before she complains that she's tired of her own decisions; she needs to be stronger, sharper, and better in every facet of her life. Charlie assures Lois that he expects she'll stop drinking soon, and when she says she believes she's starting to have an affair, he reassures her that God forgives.

Lois is most concerned that there's a basic change in the fundamentals of human nature. Everything seems hellish these days. He agrees with her. But if God has left them to fend for themselves, Charlie notes, then this is probably the time where they have to figure out their own answers instead of turning to a higher power at every opportunity.
6. Where were the mysterious coordinates hidden?

Answer: In a puzzle box

When Lois returns home from her meeting with Father Charlie, she finds out that Merritt has opened the puzzle box found at the basement crime scene-- the one that had Grotesquerie's note and possibly their earliest victim. She phones Sister Megan immediately to reveal the new clue. All she has, as she notes, is a set of coordinates.

Lois next leaves a message with Eddie, phoning him and asking him to come by to watch over Merritt. She explains that she's worried about her daughter's safety; he just needs to hang around for the evening. Merritt theorizes that the two of them might be having relations, but her apprehension fades away when the pair of them find a mutual interest in cooking shows. Lois leaves a bottle of pepperspray and instructs them to stay in the house before departing.
7. En route to their destination at the mystery coordinates, Lois and Sister Megan sing a song from what famous musical?

Answer: Jesus Christ Superstar

Lois and Sister Megan drive out into the desert bound for the coordinates found within the puzzle box and their ride takes them out into a desolate, sunbaked landscape of endless fields and empty roads. By the time the sun is back in the sky, Sister Mary, in the passenger seat singing "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from "Jesus Christ Superstar"-- belting the tune until Lois joins her, turning on the radio to the proper melody and duetting the remainder.

When the song is done, Sister Megan grips onto her rosary and says that "Jesus Christ Superstar" was the show that made her want to become a nun or a Broadway star. At one point she was slated to go to Juilliard. The church called to her more, and the rest is history.
8. What do Lois and Sister Megan find at the coordinates?

Answer: A fire pit

Though Lois and Sister Megan seem to get along for their drive, Megan is worried that their trip seems too much like a trick of the devil-- a trap. It's almost as though they're in a horror movie; they should be smarter than that.

But before long, they arrive at their destination, pulling up at the spot amidst a dense smoke. As it turns out, the spot they've been led to is a Hellish fire pit. A man, Dr. Joseph Ritter, pulls up to warn them away and Lois pulls a gun on him despite the fact that he claims to be there as part of the U.S. Geological Survey. He explains that the flaming pit they've come across is the result of ignited natural gas deposits underground, and recent earthquakes are to blame for the disaster. It's unsafe for them to be there; it's his job to keep people away until proper authorities step in.

He does let them know that one other car-- a pickup-- has driven by the spot in recent memory, but they drove off before he could get a look at the driver.

Maybe, he says, Hell finally opened up.
9. Which of these prevents Lois and Sister Megan from driving home?

Answer: A car accident

Lois and Sister Megan start to drive back the way they came and it's not a particularly safe route. While evangelists proselytize and doommonger over the radio, the pair look out the windows to see flaming cars on the side of the road, several of them dotting the route ahead. And worse, they come upon an accident completely blocking the way. Coming upon this, Lois recalls a hotel they passed earlier in the drive. They'll have to spend the night, she says.

The pair of them wind up at a gas station for a refill, and while Lois leaves the gas pumping she leave her cash on the counter inside. She's led around the building and into the smoke to find the proprietor working at the ground with a pickaxe. She asks if he's digging for treasure; he's actually making fire lines. She says they seem to have come up out of nowhere; on the contrary, the gas station owner claims, all of this was coming from a mile away, what with society destroying the planet. There's no way around it and there's no way back, so she'll just have to find a way through it. Anyone in their position needs to adapt.
10. As Lois leaves the gas station, the owner hands her which of these objects, believing it may help her if the situation gets worse?

Answer: A fire shelter kit

Before she leaves the gas station, Lois is told that she's fortunate she can keep low to the ground, drive off, and stay safe. The owner hands her a fire shelter kit before she goes, just in case she needs to be prepared for the worst-case scenario.

In the car, Sister Megan watches Father Charlie's cycling video on her phone. In the distance, the fires burn on the horizon.

As the pair drive off into the dense smoke, Lois reminds Sister Megan that they'll be fine despite everything going on, but Megan admits that the fires might be her fault. Because she swore fidelity to God, sleeping with Father Charlie was adultery of the highest order. Lois tries to console her, but Megan knows that she wanted it in the first place. Hell is opening up because of acts like the one she committed.

As Sister Megan asks Lois if she's ever committed adultery, the question goes unanswered, and it's not because Lois refuses to answer, but because the two of them are interrupted as a woman's silhouette appears in the dense smoke in front of the car. Sister Megan screams at her to get into the car and she climbs into the back seat. The young woman, covered in blood, tells them to drive-- he's coming for them.
