Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many Firefly Pendants can Joel and Ellie locate in the game?

Answer: Thirty

One of the trickier collectibles to aim for in the game, there are thirty of these small medallions scattered across the environments that Joel and Ellie traverse in their adventure, and a lot of them are in hard-to-find spots with very little indication that they're even there. Although some are found on tables or on the ground behind large objects, some hang from tree branches or high up on lightposts and need to be knocked/shot down to be claimed. In effect, it bears looking around at everything, and some places are large and detailed.

Once picked up, every Firefly Pendant can be examined and flipped over, revealing a name and a number like a military dog tag. Some will be damaged, sometimes with a bullet hole. Each one likely represents a dead Firefly.
2. All Artifacts are non-essential for game completion.

Answer: False

While the vast majority of the game's eighty-four Artifacts are just collectibles that you can pick up, read, and stow away in a list in your inventory, a very small amount of them are obligatory or, at most, necessary for progress. The Warehouse Key, for example, which you collect in the Boston Quarantine Zone early in the game, allows you to head forward through the area and gets bundled with the rest of them. Others, like a photo of Joel and Sarah, will be handed over at pivotal moments later on in the game, and even more will populate in the list automatically as the journey continues.

Collecting all of these will award an achievement (just like everything else), but the majority don't need to be touched.
3. Which of these skills can Joel NOT upgrade using Supplements?

Answer: Running Speed

Indicated throughout the game as pills, Supplements actually come in a handful of forms, typically being found in pill capsules or containers, but sometimes being collected as purple plants in certain parts of the game (presumably to be crushed into pills and ingested). Joel can use these to upgrade certain personal traits, generally as they pertain to his dexterity and wits, and with that he can level up his Maximum Health, his Listening Mode Distance, his Crafting and Healing Speeds, his Weapon Sway (or stability), and his Shiv Mastery a handful of times.
4. Joel is capable of upgrading all of his weapons using Parts at which of these?

Answer: Work Bench

Parts can be picked up all of the place, either as singles or in sets (bundled in Parts packs) depending on where Joel and Ellie find them, and all of them can be spent directly on Joel's weapons if he finds the eleven Work Benches found throughout the game. Each gun (and the bow) can be upgraded to improve ammo capacity, recoil, reload speed, and other traits while, if it's preferable, Joel can also upgrade ammo capacity in general, upgrading both his small arms and large arms' ammo pouches to store bullets outside of the weapon proper.
5. How many Tool Upgrades can Joel collect to upgrade his weapons throughout the game?

Answer: Five

At Work Benches, Joel may find himself quite limited. Even if you have the requisite amount of Parts to bring your weapons to the next level of strength, you'll need specific Tools, found in five different locations (usually in red toolboxes), to upgrade them to later stages. Each of these Tools goes into a tool pack that Joel carries around in his backpack and it can't be used up. For instance, the Level 5 Tool that Joel finds in a FEDRA tent in Salt Lake City will allow him to unlock every upgrade for any given weapon.
6. Which of these is the only collectible item to be found in the game's epilogue in Jackson?

Answer: Comic Book

Technically the last collectible in the game, Comic Book #12 is found in the front seat of a truck parked off to the side in the game's final area. The Comic Books are simply for holding onto; they don't provide any boost to your character nor do they upgrade any items.

This said, as seen in earlier cutscenes in the game, Ellie appears to be following the stories along pretty closely with what little reading material she has. Joel and Ellie can both pick these up, amassing the whole storyline in a dozen books across the game. Collecting all twelve will generally unlock an achievement.
7. Training Manuals, found throughout the journey, all contribute to passive abilities that Joel utilizes.

Answer: True

There are twelve of these found throughout the game as well, each one contributing to passive bonuses that will increase everything from shiv strength to bomb power to health replenishment and on and on. All of these appear as thin books, not unlike the Comic Books, and can be found in most areas of the game starting with Bill's Safehouse outside of the Boston Quarantine Zone.

The majority of them are actually in and around the Pittsburgh area while the final one, affecting bomb shrapnel, isn't found until the final Infected fights in the Salt Lake City tunnels.
8. On several different occasions, Ellie can rattle off a number of jokes from a book she travels with. What's that book's name?

Answer: No Pun Intended

As Ellie and Joel make their way across the United States, there's a small handful of opportunities where the two of them can lighten the mood a little bit (often to Joel's disdain) by way of Ellie's book of puns, which she travels with in her bag. Four such instances occur in Pittsburgh, one is outside the city (in the suburbs), and one more can occur in the game's "Left Behind" DLC.

Triggering these optional moments can be tricky as they require Joel and Ellie to stand in place in very specific spots (eg. next to a specific storefront or on a platform in a hotel lobby), often without any real indication within the game. Hearing out all the jokes will lead to an achievement of some sort, otherwise it's completely non-obligatory.
9. How many safes is Joel able to break into throughout the game?

Answer: Four

All four of these safes, generally found in parts of the game where he and Ellie are navigating their way through homes or businesses, are cracked into with three-number codes, and each will contain supplies, ammo, and Artifacts that are welcome rewards for getting inside. After all, no one else is using them!

In all four cases, the combinations for the safes are found within nearby Artifacts, so finding any missing notes and slips of paper in the vicinity (often in the same building or neighbourhood) will be beneficial. You don't even need to turn a dial the proper way; you just need to select the correct three numbers for each.
10. Throughout the game, Joel will encounter doors that can only be unlocked with which of these?

Answer: Shivs

Though there are a few small key items that act as Artifacts in the game, there are a handful of locked doors (around a dozen) that you'll encounter across the U.S. that can only be opened if you use a Shiv, effectively breaking in. Joel can create Shivs with raw materials or, rarely, find them in his travels as a loose item, but since these are also practical tools with which you can quickly (and stealthily) down enemies, it takes a bit of effort to conserve them for one purpose or the other. Always having one on-hand can be to your benefit, especially since these Shiv Doors can contain collectibles or much-needed supplies.
