Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the start of the game, Hinako Shimizu leaves home following which of these?

Answer: An argument

As it is quickly discovered, home life for Hinako isn't ideal. With her sister, Junko, married to a good husband, her alcoholic, abusive father's expectations of her are low and his wrath is immense. Meanwhile, Himako's mother stands idly by, inadvertently enabling her husband through her inaction. Hinako leaves home to get some space and speak to her friends, but what she doesn't realize is that her small group of friends may be all that's left in the otherwise quiet town of Ebisugaoka. What follows is a nightmare that she struggles to wake up from.
2. The setting for "Silent Hill f" is Ebisugaoka, a small town in what nation?

Answer: Japan

Ebisugaoka, which Hinako describes as a sad, little town, was (according to notes found in the game), once the bustling destination before the war, but it quieted significantly after the nearby dam was built and the coal mines were closed. What was left is a picturesque, but dreary mountain village with a subdued atmosphere and a community rooted in old tradition.

Unfortunately, none of them are particularly active when Hinako starts her nightmare; the town is a backdrop for terror and only a small handful of her friends can be found.
3. Your save points, in this game, can be found at which of these?

Answer: Shrines

Hinako saves her progress from the many Hokora found in both Ebisugaoka and the Dark shrine world though there are also autosave spots found throughout the journey. Hokara hold many different added capabilities though, since they're also active shrines that provide bonuses.

For example, using the Enshrine option here allows Hinako to effectively sell or offer consumable items to trade them for Faith, a form of pseudo-currency used to purchase critical equippable items or upgrades. In Casual or Story difficulty, you can restore Health and Sanity without using Faith at a Hokora, but in Lost in the Fog Mode, its use comes at a cost.
4. Throughout the game, you're likely to encounter statues of which animal, placed in spots out of superstitious need?

Answer: Fox

Inari-Sama are statues of the local fox goddess found all over the town of Ebisugaoka, and according to Hinako's journal, they are meant to revere a deity that puts old, unusable tools to rest. The truth is that there are a lot of these found on shrines and tucked away in otherwise empty corners of the map; even certain documents are found as origami in the shape of foxes. Local superstition states that there's a curse that brings disaster on the region around Ebisugaoka, and it's believed that these statues keep those at bay.
5. Which of these consumable items, handed over by Shu, allows Hinako to heal small amounts quickly?

Answer: Red Capsules

In addition to contending with waking nightmares, it becomes quickly apparent that Hinako suffers from occasionally-debilitating headaches and these do pose a bit of an impediment from time to time. Shu, knowing this as her partner, offers her a Capsule Case when she meets him at the Chizuruya General Store early on, and with that, Red Capsules can be picked up and consumed throughout the game. These base-level healing consumables can be used to replenish a little bit of Health at a time, though not as much as a Bandage or a First Aid Kit. The difference is that you can consume them quickly.

Of course, it may not be safe to take Red Capsules too much. They are pain medication after all.
6. Early in the game, Hinako can equip how many Omamori at once?

Answer: One

Omamori are equippable items that you can collect both via pickup around the game or from random lottery at any Hokora at the cost of increasing amounts of Faith. At the start of the game, once it's possible for Hinako to start equipping these, you can only use one at a time, but upgrading this capability through prayer (also costing Faith and an Ema) can add an extra slot. You can add five slots when things are all said and done, but doing this will likely require additional playthroughs to amass more resources. You can swap Omamori at any time.
7. Only melee weapons are usable in "Silent Hill f".

Answer: True

While some foes have ranged attacks, Hinako isn't able to leverage this ability, instead being limited to melee in all cases. In both the real world and the Dark Shrine, she'll be able to find weapons that she can use to fight off and parry foes. There is a catch, however, in that real world items have durability, so she'll need to repair them with Toolkits or replace them when they break. Durability is high in the Dark Shrine though, and she won't need to repair them at all (or use them past a certain point).
8. The fullness of your Sanity Meter directly affects your ability to use which of these?

Answer: Focus

While Sanity has more significance in the harder combat difficulties of "Silent Hill f", it does remain an important meter, designated by a chain of flowers above Hinako's Health and Stamina. With this, Hinako can use Focus, which allows her to better analyze when to time dodges and parries against certain enemies, bracing herself for those moments. Focus does replenish in easier difficulties, but in 'Lost in the Fog' mode, you can only refill this meter at a Hokora. You can also use Ema to upgrade the size of the meter bit by bit.
9. Ema can be used to upgrade Hinako's abilities. This can be done by completing which action?

Answer: Praying

There aren't that many Ema throughout "Silent Hill f", at least not ones that you can take with you, but these helpful items can be brought back to Hokara in order for Hinako to pray, an option that will allow her to upgrade her Health limit, her Sanity limit, her Stamina limit, or the amount of slots that can be used for Omamori (which starts at 1). All of these prayers cost an Ema as well as a requisite amount of Faith, and the cost for the latter will increase for upgrades if selected.

There are twenty-two Ema, and you can only get them all, and max out these attributes, if you complete New Game+ more than once.
10. In your first playthrough of "Silent Hill f", you can only achieve one ending. How many endings are actually available in the game?

Answer: Five

Although a lot of games in the "Silent Hill" series allow for more than one ending on your first playthrough, "Silent Hill f" restricts Hinako's journey to just one in the first run, having her come face-to-face with the unstoppable Fog Monster that represents her, as a bride, having committed a violent crime against her friends on her wedding day.

New Game+, however, allows you to unlock more and more truth to the story, and by heading back into Hinako's adventure, you'll have the opportunity to find new items, grab new collectibles, and fight new bosses while carrying over your progress. As is typical, at least one of the unlockable endings explains the story away with UFOs.
