Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What studio developed the game in 2006?

Answer: Big Fish Games

Released in December of 2006, "Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst" is the third game in the overall "Mystery Case Files" series and served as the official debut of the iconic "Ravenhearst" saga. It introduced a dark, overarching story centered on assembling the missing diary pages of Emma Ravenhearst.

The goal was then to uncover the manor's sinister secrets. The game was a big success in the hidden-object puzzle-adventure genre.
2. In the opening scene, the leader of what country asks the player, via a letter, to investigate Ravenhearst Manor?

Answer: England

The game begins with a letter from the Queen of England, in which she asks the player to help find some missing diary pages from a young lady who lived at spooky Ravenhearst Manor long ago. She states that there are over thirty rooms that need to be investigated. The player accepts the task, reads the first diary page, and enters the dark, old homestead.
3. The player can easily enter some rooms and look for the hidden items from the displayed list. However, some rooms can only be entered after solving a puzzle. The first puzzle is about classifying pictures that fall into what two categories?

Answer: Night and day

Each room has a list that spells out the items that need to be found. Some are right in plain sight while others are hidden among the jumble of things found in each room. Not all rooms are this easy to explore, though. Some rooms have a puzzle that must be solved before the door opens.

The first puzzle is one that shows various images such as a star, sunglasses, a bat, and a sunflower. These must be dragged to the appropriate area of the screen (night and day).
4. In one of the first few diary pages that are discovered, the player learns that Emma has found a new beau whose last name is Dalimar. What is his first name?

Answer: Charles

Charles Dalimar meets Emma in England, falls deeply in love with her, and builds the grand Ravenhearst Manor to win her heart. However, Emma's diary pages reveal that his love is a dark, suffocating obsession. When Emma rejects his advances and tries to return home, Charles snaps. His character would go on to appear in multiple games of this series.
5. Once a sequence of rooms has been solved within the time limit, the player gets a chance to obtain one of the missing diary pages. What puzzle type must be solved each time to get one of these documents?

Answer: Jigsaw

Each time a sequence of rooms is completed and the correct number of hidden items are found, the game automatically brings up a monochromatic jigsaw game. The puzzle pieces are around the edge. Each piece can be rotated and then moved onto the board in the center of the screen. Once the picture is complete, the player is given a diary page to review.
6. Some of the rooms have Rube Goldberg-style mechanical puzzles that must be solved before entering. In the Surveillance Room lock, what plant is featured as the final step in the puzzle?

Answer: Venus flytrap

To enter the Surveillance Room, the player must perform a series of sequential steps (hopefully without a hint button). They must turn on the electricity, fix and tune the television (with those old rabbit ears), decode a sequence to release a fly, and feed the fly to a Venus flytrap. That action then gives the player the key to the room.
7. The player is given three hints to use for each turn (a sequence of rooms).

Answer: False

The player is given five hints to use during each sequence. All five can be used in a single room, or they can be spread out across rooms. When the hint button is pressed, the screen shows a circular motion around the area where an item can be found. There is a skip button for the rooms with a puzzle lock. If the skip button is used, all hints are disabled for that sequence.
8. The lock to the Greenhouse contains a puzzle where the player must sequence the life of a particular creature's growth. What animal is it?

Answer: Frog

To solve this part of the puzzle in order to enter the Greenhouse, the player must look at the outer edges of the door mechanism. That area features eight different illustrations detailing a frog's growth. By clicking the numbered green buttons, the sequence must be set in chronological order from egg to fully grown adult frog.
9. Which of these is *NOT* a room that can be explored in Ravenhearst Manor?

Answer: Gazebo

The game has thirty-two total named rooms spread across five distinct floors. The Basement area contains the hidden depths of the manor such as the Cellar, Storage Room, and Workshop. The First Floor has the Entryway/Hallway, Parlor, Music Room, Surveillance Room, and Servant's Quarters.

The Second Floor has the Guest Quarters, Guest Bathroom, Nursery, and Library. Then there is the Attic, the Tower, and various outdoor spaces such as the Greenhouse and the Shed.
10. What is discovered in the final locked area, after using seven different keys found throughout Ravenhearst Manor?

Answer: Emma's corpse

After the nineteenth level of room sequences is completed, a final diary page is discovered. This one is from Emma herself to the player. She states that there are seven keys scattered throughout the mansion's rooms. The player is to find the keys and go to the Cellar.

The player must now revisit the rooms and look for keys which are placed in different places each game. Once the seven keys are gathered, they unlock a puzzle which opens the door to a hidden room where Emma's corpse is found. When the coffin is opened, her spirit is freed, and the game ends.
