31. In this movie, a small town sheriff in Alaska must fight the forces of evil. When his town is preyed upon by bloodsucking creatures of the night during a month without daylight, he sacrifices himself to protect his family.

From Quiz
Movie Titles with No "The"

Answer: 30 Days of Night

This movie was released in 2007. This movie stars Josh Hartnett, Melissa George and Ben Foster. It was directed by David Slade and is the adaptation of a comic book series of the same name.

32. Which outrageously titled horror flick of 1972 was about a negro vampire?

From Quiz Utterly Outrageous Movie Titles

Answer: Blacula

Racial equality was gaining momentum in the early 70s, and someone obviously thought that a black man should be able to play a cold-blooded, supernatural killer, just like everybody else. William Marshall played Mamuwalde, an African vampire who believed he had found his former wife, reincarnated in 1972 Los Angeles. Marshall reprised the role in a 1973 sequel, 'Scream, Blacula, Scream', where his character (who had completely disintegrated in the first movie) was fully re-integrated into society.

33. A pregnant surrogate mother (Juliette Lewis) of a millionaire is kidnapped by a pair of small time criminals (Ryan Philippe and Benicio del Toro). What movie is this?

From Quiz Guess the Film 2

Answer: The Way of the Gun

Christopher McQuarrie directs "The Way of the Gun", a gritty thriller where two petty criminals abduct a pregnant surrogate mother. Further chaos ensues when the millionaire, who is paying the mother, hires a hit man (James Caan).

34. What is a large grove of trees called?

From Quiz Duh, What Movie Am I Talking About? Part 2

Answer: Forest

Mama always told me that in Thule, Greenland there was absolutely no trees.

35. Anna Chlumsky (born 1980) played the role of Veda in what 1991 film? In this film, Veda was an intelligent 11-year-old girl living in a house which served as the town's funeral parlor.

From Quiz Name the Movies of Female Child or Teen Actress

Answer: My Girl

After making her film debut in the 1989 film "Uncle Buck", Anna Clumsky made her first starring role in the 1991 film "My Girl", playing the role of Veda. Her father Harry (Dan Ackroyd) was a mortician and widower. Her upbringing led her to suffer from hypochondria as she often saw dead people in her house. Her best friend, Thomas J. Sennett (Macaulay Culkin), was a boy she often liked to hang out with in her neighborhood. Thomas later died from an attack by a swarm of bees. Her father later hired a new receptionist named Shelley DeVoto (Jamie Lee Curtis), who her father later dated. Their lives changed dramatically with the appearance of Shelley. Shelley had the ability to communicate with Veda which her father could not do. In 1994, she played the same character in the sequel "My Girl 2".

36. Name the greatest "B" movie that contains these roles: Quintas Arrius, Simonides, Valerius Gratus.

From Quiz Action! ABCs (The Best Movies Alphabetically)

Answer: Ben-Hur

"Ben-Hur" was released in 1959. The film was a fictional account of a Jewish nobleman, in a conquered Roman Judaea, who incurs the ire of a childhood friend. That friend, now a Roman Centurion, in turn causes the main character to be enslaved. It was based on the 1880 novel of the same name by Lew Wallace. The film was directed by William Wyler, and starred Charlton Heston as the title character. It was nominated for 12 Academy Awards, and won 11 Oscars. The highlights of those 11 awards were Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. The roles listed were played by Jack Hawkins, Sam Jaffe, and Mino Doro.

37. Name the comedy which stars Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty as a singing duo who travel to Morocco and unwittingly end up in a standoff in a plot to de-throne the Emir of a small country.

From Quiz 10 Worst Movies of All Time

Answer: Ishtar

Upon receiving an offer to perform as lounge singers in a Moroccan hotel, Lyle and Chuck accidentally wind up a cold war standoff. The movie was supposed to be a comedy, however, barely eked out any laughs. "Ishtar" received 3 Golden Raspberry Awards and was named by critics Siskel and Ebert, as the worst film of 1987.

38. An old story told in a new and exciting way - what film connects these four words: Pandora, Wheelchair, Unobtanium, Na'vi?

From Quiz 4 Words - 1 Movie

Answer: Avatar

Released in 2009, "Avatar" depicts the plight of the native Na'vi on the moon Pandora as colonists from Earth plunder their natural resource, Unobtanium. Not everything goes to plan, however, as wheelchair bound Jake falls in love with Neytiri and uses his Na'vi avatar to take down the Resources Development Administration and send them packing. "2001: A Space Odyssey", "Lost In Space" and "Jupiter Rising" are all epic sci-fi films, however "Avatar" is the only to one to feature the Na'vi and Unobtanium. Fun fact: Director James Cameron started work on the script as far back as 1994 but production was held until he felt CGI technology could handle bringing his vision to life. He knew that time had come when seeing the character Gollum brought to life in "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring".

39. Nicolas Cage travelled to an island of Pagan worshippers to solve the mystery of his missing daughter in what 2006 film known for its bees?

From Quiz Boo!

Answer: The Wicker Man

Although the original "Wicker Man" film was a horror classic from 1973, director Neil LaBute brought it back in 2006 and boy did it flop. In addition to barely recouping its budget, the movie was considered an all around failure, especially in regards to the absurd script and poor acting. Much like the original film (and the novel it was based on), the movie involved one man's trip to an island home to Pagan sacrificers. This plot, however, has been overshadowed by the internet's choice to highlight a scene in which Nicolas Cage is attacked by a basket full of CGI bees-- part of the punishment for his sacrifice to restore the island's honey production. It's all very convoluted.

40. This 2012 movie that was based on a play that was based on a book by Victor Hugo starred Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman. I have no interest in hearing Anne Hathaway sing so what movie do I not want to see?

From Quiz Movies I Hate That Everyone Else Loves

Answer: Les Misérables

This musical drama set in early 19th century France was nominated for several awards, including an Academy Award for Best Picture. Anne Hathaway won a Supporting Actress Oscar. The movie was very well received and did extremely well at the box office, breaking the record for opening day gross for a musical movie.

41. In which movie do the lovers make a pact to meet at the Empire State Building at the end of six months, if they still felt the same way about each other?

From Quiz Seattle: Degrees of Separation

Answer: An Affair to Remember

"An Affair to Remember" starred Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. The two meet and fall in love on a cruise while they are in relationships with other people. They agree to meet after six months at the Empire State Building if they still feel as strongly about each other and are ready to make a commitment. Fate intervenes and one of them is unable to keep the appointment.

42. Jesse and Celine spend an evening together in Vienna after meeting on a train from Budapest. What is the name of the movie in which these characters appeared?

From Quiz Do You Remember Me?

Answer: Before Sunrise

Ethan Hawke played Jesse and Julie Delpy played Celine in this movie. "Before Sunrise" is set in 1990s in Vienna. Jesse was an American who went to visit his girlfriend in Madrid but ended up traveling around Europe after she broke up with him. Celine had recently broken off an engagement. After spending the day together, Jesse and Celine felt an intimate connection to each other but at the end of the movie, they parted ways, promising to meet again in six months.

43. While Sandra Bullock wasn't the only one alone in space in this 2013 film (George Clooney was there for a bit), she had to rely on her own abilities to make it back to Earth. What was the movie?

From Quiz Help? Anybody?

Answer: Gravity

While Sandra Bullock began the film as part of a space crew repairing a satellite in orbit, the numbers whittled down to just her, fighting to survive a truly nightmarish trip into outer space with the limited resources at her disposal. The movie became a critical gem, getting nominated for ten Academy Awards (winning seven) and granting Bullock a second Best Actress nod (she won four years earlier for "The Blind Side". Director Alfonso Cuarón was also known for "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" and "Children of Men".

44. 1994 biopic on Golden Turkey award winner. Johnny Depp played title character. Cast included Martin Landau, Bill Murray, Sarah Jessica Parker. What film do these clues bring to mind?

From Quiz Three Harder Clues to a Movie

Answer: Ed Wood

Tim Burton directed "Ed Wood", which was shot in black and white. Martin Landau's performance as Bela Lugosi won him an Academy Award. Johnny Depp seemed right at home in Ed Wood's persona. Ed was, unfortunately, one of the least talented but most persevering directors of his era. His Golden Turkey award for Worst Director of All Time was richly deserved. There wasn't a great deal of plot to this movie, but it did tell several stories about Mr. Woods's efforts to get his films produced and about his befriending of the down-on-his-luck Lugosi.

45. What movie did Daryl Hannah NOT have a part in?

From Quiz What Movie Wasn't That Star In? II

Answer: Road House

In the 1981 movie "Hard Country", Daryl played Loretta, little sister of Jodie (Kim Basinger). In the 1987 movie "Roxanne", Daryl played the title role of Roxanne. The movie was an updated comedy version of "Cyrano de Bergerac" with Steve Martin playing the role of long nosed fire chief C.D. Bales. In the 1992 movie "Memoirs of an Invisible Man", Daryl played the Invisible Man's love interest, Alice Monroe. The 1989 movie "Road House" starred Patrick Swayze, Sam Elliott, Ben Gazzara, and Kelly Lynch. The movie is about a bouncer that works in a bar in a town in Missouri who protects patrons from a corrupt business man.

46. Which film is the character Jake Gittes in?

From Quiz Character Name To Film Title

Answer: Chinatown

Jack Nicholson played Jake Gittes in Roman Polanski's "Chinatown" (1974). The film is about a detective (Nicholson) who investigates women's husbands' fidelity for a living.

47. Director Tim Burton often hires Johnny Depp, but Helena Bonham Carter is his favored actor. In which movie is she a maniacal and fat headed Red Queen?

From Quiz Friends For Hire

Answer: Alice in Wonderland

Award winning actress Helena Bonham Carter played the Red Queen in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" (2010). She's a jealous, odd and delightfully dangerous monarch who only wants to be loved. Bonham Carter's head was digitally increased to three times normal size, and her tiny waist was also a trick of the camera. Bonham Carter is director Tim Burton's domestic partner and the mother of their children. Burton hired her to star in more than 7 of his films since their first movie together, "Planet of the Apes" (2001). As Burton also favors Johnny Depp, Depp and Helena star together in several Burton movies.

48. On my first flight overseas in 1987, I watched the international version of this film (apparently, the Australian version had too much slang in it). In which 1986 Paul Hogan film did we find out what a knife really was?

From Quiz Films on Planes

Answer: "Crocodile" Dundee

I wasn't on a flight to Australia; I was actually heading to Germany. In the film, co-star (and future wife) Linda Kozlowski played a reporter who went to Australia to meet Mick Dundee, a legendary crocodile hunter. After some adventures in the Outback, she brought him to her turf in New York City where he struggled to fit in. Still, some of his skills came in handy; he chased off would-be muggers by showing them his huge hunting knife: "That's not a knife; THAT's a knife". The Hogan-Kozlowski team would make a couple of "Crocodile Dundee" sequels before calling it quits on their marriage in 2014.

49. What 2007 Pixar film starred a rodent and was set in France?

From Quiz One-Word Movie Titles [2]

Answer: Ratatouille

"Ratatouille", the eighth film created as a joint venture between Disney and Pixar, featured the voices of Patton Oswalt, Janeane Garofalo, and Ian Holm. A popular animated film for kids and adults alike, it earned over $600,000,000 in the box office and went on to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in its year of release. The movie, about a rat living in Paris and taking on the role as a chef in a fancy restaurant (through the use of his new friend, Alfredo), was a major success. Director Brad Bird also filmed "The Incredibles" with Pixar.

50. What movie contains Vivian, a businessman and the line "It's the best."?

From Quiz Can You Name This Movie in Three Clues?

Answer: Pretty Woman

"Pretty Woman" was the story of a hooker, Vivian, who worked for a businessman, Edward. He paid her $3,000 to work for a week, plus he bought her clothes and other things. Edward was afraid of heights yet stayed in the penthouse (the top floor). When Vivian asked him why he said, "It's the best." The two had fallen in love, but yet went their separate ways. Then at the end Edward went to Vivian's place on the top floor. When he asked about it she replied back, "It's the best." The ending of this movie was beautiful. Edward said, "So what happens after he climbs up and rescues her?". She replied, "She rescues him right back."

51. Name the movie: 1973 (released); 1962 (setting); Richard Dreyfuss; Bob Falfa (character); Ronny Howard?

From Quiz Name That Movie: Downward Spiral With A Twist

Answer: American Graffiti

"American Graffiti" (1973) was a coming of age movie of a single night in Modesto, California, in 1962, just before the high school graduates left for college. The movie starred a young Richard Dreyfus and Ronny Howard (as he was known then) with Harrison Ford getting the small but crucial role of Bob Falfo. "American Graffiti" was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture, but this Oscar was won by "The Sting" (1973). The other answer options are all Oscar Nominees for Best Picture in 1973.

52. Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Emma Roberts and Will Poulter are all actors in which 2013 movie?

From Quiz Match the Movie

Answer: We Are The Millers

'We Are The Millers' is about a small-time drug dealer, Dave (Sudeikis) who has all of his drugs stolen from him and in order to keep his boss from killing him, he takes on a drug smuggling job. He then devises a plan which involves his stripper neighbour, Rose (Aniston), a loser kid, Kenny (Poulter) and runaway bad girl, Casey (Roberts) pretending to be his family in an RV.

53. A getaway to the woods never seemed so stressful. In what 2002 Eli Roth film involving a flesh-eating virus did a character continue shaving... even though she was clearly breaking the skin?

From Quiz Strange Motives

Answer: Cabin Fever

Only bad things seem to happen in the forest, am I right? Least of all things, people lose their judgment and have horrible motives for doing so. "Cabin Fever" brought five friends to a forested lake house for a relaxing getaway and set loose a flesh-eating bacteria. As they started to become infected, things only got worse-- one friend headed into the woods with a lot of beer to wait it out (as if that would work), while the others hid an infected member of their party in a shed (as if there were no other options). One girl, Marcy, made the foolish decision to shave her legs in infected water and made the nonsensical mistake of 'evening off both sides', as it would seem, since she didn't notice the damage she was causing. Perhaps it was to sleep with Paul, the main guy, again, because whose priorities need to be straight? "Cabin Fever" was, nonetheless, a major hit for Roth. With a story spurned from his own experience with a horrible virus in Iceland, the movie went on to earn over $30,000,000 in the box office, allowing him to greenlight the torture-porn mainstay "Hostel", which he also wrote.

54. On a country estate, everybody from the master of the house to the poacher seems to be involved in some sort of amorous escapade, which can only spell disaster. Which film, by French director Jean Renoir and released in 1939, am I talking about?

From Quiz What's In A Title? Masters of Cinema

Answer: The Rules of the Game

The title "The Rules of the Game" seems to refer to the acceptance of infidelity amongst the upper crust of French society, but hints that one should still retain a certain decorum even in the face of ludicrous perfidiousness. Although "The Rules of the Game" went down like a lead zeppelin on its release in 1939 for its mockery of the French upper classes, in the 1950s it staked its place and became a perennial on "best films ever made" lists, arguably for the very same reason. The pro-Nazi Vichy government of World War II wasn't keen on it either and banned it, adding to its legacy. Renoir (Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir's son) was already a big name director when he embarked on the project "The Rules of the Game", but apparently took its commercial and critical failure very hard and was so self-deprecating that he agreed to reedit his masterpiece in the hope of pleasing the masses. However, he didn't wallow in fake modesty and years later, he keenly agreed to restore the film to its former glory. About the red herrings (all 1939): "Gone with the Wind" is one of the most popular and successful films of all time, "Daybreak" (original title "Le Jour Se Lève") was directed by Marcel Carné, and "Confessions of a Nazi Spy" is a great anti-Nazi film starring Edward G. Robinson.

55. Would you recognize the movie from this quote? "We got two honkies out there, dressed like Hasidic diamond merchants." Tell me which film has come to mind.

From Quiz A Trip to the Video Store

Answer: The Blues Brothers

If you looked at the script for "The Blues Brothers" before it was filmed you might have thought it was too lame and silly to ever amount to anything, yet it has maintained a large popularity through the years. The story of two brothers, blues musicians, and their "mission from God" to raise money for the Catholic orphanage where they grew up in Chicago, Illinois, follows a predictable path but the interplay between John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd is deadpan-hilarious. Cab Calloway, Carrie Fisher, Aretha Franklin and Twiggy each added something to the mix. The quote in the question was from lunch bar owner Aretha Franklin to her husband (and cook) Matt "Guitar" Murphy.

56. Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, and Orlando Bloom were all in Ancient Greece in what 2004 film set in the time of Homer's "Iliad"?

From Quiz Far in Time

Answer: Troy

An Ancient Greek epic film from Wolfgang Petersen, "Troy" followed classical Greek figures from "The Iliad" including Achilles, Agamemnon, Helen of Troy, Odysseus, Hector, and Paris. Released in 2004 it ended up earning nearly $500,000,000 (an epic amount in itself). The film featured famous pseudo-historical moments including the famous Trojan horse and the wounding of Achilles in Troy, and preceded Odysseus' departure to Ithaca. The movie was exceedingly expensive to film, but the payout was high enough to allow Petersen to direct the "Poseidon" remake in 2006. The time period of the film would have set it in the 7th or 8th century B.C.

57. The "Batman" Franchise Which movie featured George Clooney in his only role as the masked "Caped Crusader"?

From Quiz In Which Movie or Sequel Did That Happen?

Answer: Batman & Robin

George Clooney played one of the title roles in the fifth Batman movie to be released, "Batman & Robin" in 1997. In the film, Clooney was paired with Chris O'Donnell as Robin, and pitted against arch-villain Mr. Freeze, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film also introduced Alicia Silverstone in the role of Barbara Wilson, who was revealed to be Batgirl. The 1966 film, "Batman", also referred to as "Batman: The Movie", starred the original cast from the "Batman" television series, with Adam West in the title role. The next two movies, "Batman" (1989) and "Batman Returns" (1992) featured Michael Keaton in the role of Batman. "Batman Forever" (1995) starred Val Kilmer as the lead character. George Clooney was the fourth of five actors to star as Batman. Christian Bale played the Batman role in "Batman Begins" 92005), "The Dark Knight" (2008), and in "Dark Knight Rises" in 2012.

58. In what 1981 Harrison Ford movie did the filmmakers omit several scenes that highlighted characters' need to look away from a pivotal plot device?

From Quiz Now Cut That Out!

Answer: Raiders of the Lost Ark

The first film in the "Indiana Jones" series, "Raiders of the Lost Ark" sparked an interest in dangerous archaeology and action-adventures featuring bazaar scenes. The plot of this movie involved Indy trying to stop Nazis from claiming the fabled Lost Ark and it earned just under $400,000,000 in theaters upon its release. In one key scene, the characters were meant to look away from the Lost Ark -- gazing upon its contents would cause onlookers to die gruesome deaths and have their souls claimed by the powers within. Fortunately, Indy and friends looked away while the Nazis got their comeuppance. But how did he know to look away? Well, that was left out for the most part. Though there were subtle hints throughout (and in the Bible if you've read it), scenes were cut from the script in which Indy prevented a friend from so much as touching the Ark. Any contact likely would've meant the end for him. Then again, leaving it out meant more impromptu face-melting, so there's that.

From Quiz Recipes for Movies: Part 3

Answer: The A-Team

"The A-Team" is a 2010 action film directed by Joe Carnahan, and starring Bradley Cooper, Liam Neeson, Sharlto Copley, and Quinton Jackson. The movie is based on the television series of the same name. The film revolves around four soldiers, known as The A-Team, who attempt to escape from jail to clear their names of a crime they did not commit. After the four men each escape from jail, they are on the run to clear their names. One person out to find them is Peck's (Bradley Cooper's) ex-lover, Sosa. She almost catches them, until they escape in a plane. Her team manages to shoot down the plan, so the team escape in a tank attached to parachute. To prevent crashing into the ground, the team shoots off rounds, stalling them in the air, which simulates "flying" the tank. In the film, the team's enemy is a man named Lynch. Lynch, along with a man named Pike, have stolen U.S. Treasury plates and plan to sell them. Towards the end of the movie, Peck comes up with a plan. He believes, "You beat a guy like Lynch with three things: distraction, diversion and division. Then you put him on display, for the whole world to see..." When demonstrating his plan to the rest of the team he uses three red, plastic cups. Hannibal (played by Liam Neeson) has a popular catch-phrase, which is "I love it when a plan comes together." At the end of the film, as the team is being arrested, Peck is given a key by his ex-lover Sosa in a kiss. Peck says to Hannibal, "I don't mean to steal your line, boss, but I love it when a plan comes together."

60. Although a great deal of this 2006 thriller was filmed in jungles and on beaches, the climax of what movie, starring Josh Duhamel, took place in an underwater cave system?

From Quiz Needs...More...Oxygen...

Answer: Turistas

This movie followed a group of twenty-somethings visiting the beautiful Brazilian coast in search of beach-side fun and lush jungles. When they stumbled upon a rather idyllic spot on the oceanfront, they discovered that something was amiss as they were drugged, robbed, and left by the water. Inevitably, they found that they were going to be used for something much more grave and frightening: their body parts. In a climactic part of the film, some of the survivors fled into an extensive underwater cave system and were forced to suck air bubbles from the roofs of the chambers to survive. "Turistas" was directed by John Stockwell, also known for "Top Gun", "Blue Crush", and "Into the Blue". Although the film starred Josh Duhamel, Melissa George, and Olivia Wilde, it failed to recoup its $30,000,000 budget, only returning about $7,000,000 at the box office. Critical reception was also lacking as many compared it to the torture-themed "Hostel" films.
