'ER' - Seasons and Episodes Trivia

1. Carter is having a pretty rough going in this episode so at one point he drops by a pub where he apparently is a regular. The bartender takes notice of him and says he'll get him an iced coffee and a BLT right away. What does Carter answer?

From Quiz "ER" - "Damaged" (Season 11, Episode 2) - Pt. II

Answer: "Maybe something else today." (meaning he's getting drunk)

Carter does choose to get drunk. Which is kind of ironic, considering how "short-leashed" he kept Abby while they dated. Later when at the hospital he recognizes his hypocrisy over something like this but Abby tries to comfort him by saying "we're all hypocrites". But not before making a bit of a scene, by walking into the hospital and telling the vet guy to call his girlfriend (which he did not want to see him in such condition since he was partially disfigured). Obviously Carter takes this "vet guy story" into personal matters, comparing it to his recent loss of Kem and the whole idea of a special love being made apart because of external reasons comes to mind.

From Quiz "ER" - "Chaos Theory" (Season 9: Episode 1):

Answer: Abby Lockhart

Abby said this to Susan at the beginning of this episode, after learning that almost everyone else was being evacuated. In response to Abby's question, Susan explained that she and Carter were unable to leave due to their "prolonged exposure" to the virus.

Carter said this to Susan Lewis after examining two children covered in "firm, deep-seated pustules, all in the same stage of development." At the beginning of this episode Susan and Carter were seen discussing the lilies she sent his grandmother. Unfortunately for Susan, Carter's grandmother claimed to be "allergic to lilies", prompting Susan to say that she could not seem to "get into her good graces". Carter then replied that his grandmother probably didn't appreciate "the symbolism", as lilies were for funerals. In light of the fact that she had knocked a girl down while driving, this certainly seemed to make sense.

A new medical student, Michael Gallant, was seen asking for John Carter at the beginning of this episode. Eager not be late on his first day, he asked Haleh, Susan Mark, Luka and Abby where he could find Carter. However Carter was unable to supervise him, prompting Mark to beg Susan to take care of the "med student in need of a home".

Answer: A pair of earrings

At the beginning of this episode, Elizabeth received a pair of earrings belonging to her grandmother. As Elizabeth put them on, her mother explained that the earrings were worn at both her own wedding and that of her mother. She also added that though Elizabeth was "not one for tradition", she should think of them as her "something old, something new" and "something borrowed".

Carter said this to Mark and Elizabeth at the beginning of the episode, after returning to work for the first time since his stint in rehab. Indeed a lot seemed to have changed while Carter was away. The state medical board had even forced the hospital to clean out his locker, so he had to borrow Mark's until he was assigned one of his own.

In a previous episode, Doug mentioned to Mark that the ER needed a Paediatric Emergency Attending, as so many children were admitted there on a daily basis. In this episode it was revealed that he had taken his suggestion to the Dean of Medicine, who had circulated a memo, making it clear that the idea was up for discussion. When Kerry questioned Mark about it, she argued that the ER staff were "trained to handle anyone who" came through the door, and there was no need for such a position.

From Quiz "ER" - "Exodus" (Season 4: Episode 15)

Answer: Elizabeth Corday

During this episode, Elizabeth Corday went on a one day "ride-along" with paramedics, who were immediately called to an accident at a chemical warehouse. Despite not having "any experience with confined-space rescue", Elizabeth risked her life in order to save a man trapped under a pile of rubble. Not only did she have to crawl through a narrow tunnel on her stomach in order to reach the man, but dust and debris kept falling, threatening to trap her too. Moreover she refused to leave the man, despite being ordered to return to safety, informing a fellow rescuer that the Captain would have no choice but to send someone back if she stayed with the man. Elizabeth did finally manage to free the man, narrowly escaping being buried alive in the process.

From Quiz "ER" Season 3 Finale - "One More for the Road"

Answer: Carter informed him that he was considering leaving the hospital's surgical program

At the beginning of this episode, John Carter nervously informed the Chief of Staff, Donald Anspaugh that he was "contemplating leaving the surgical program". Carter said that he not only believed that he had made an error "in selecting surgery" as his specialty, but also suspected that Anspaugh himself would agree with him. Anspaugh retorted with "I certainly do not!", before launching into an angry speech in which he berated Carter for acting like a child. Reminding Carter that surgery was "not summer camp", he told him that he could not "just run home to Mommy", but had "to suck it up and stick to it". A few more angry remarks followed, culminating in Anspaugh marching furiously out of his own office.

Al's doctors were adding to his AIDS medication as he had built up a resistance to some of them, prompting Jeanie to suggest "nucleoside analogues". Incidentally, a trial study for these drugs was taking place at County General Hospital, but it only accepted twenty individuals. Jeanie offered to help her ex-husband by talking to some of the doctors, claiming that she could at least get Al an interview for the study.

"I think I just sold my soul to the devil": Mark made this comment to one of the ER nurses at the beginning of the episode, after making a bargain with Dr. Kerry Weaver. In order to ensure that Dr. Weaver would back his decision to make Dr. Susan Lewis Chief Resident, Mark agreed to make Kerry an Attending Physician. True to his word, Mark spoke up at the staff meeting, informing Dr. Morgenstern that he was "looking forward" to working with Dr. Weaver. However, later on in the episode, it was revealed that Susan had not been promoted, and Linda Martin had been named Chief Resident instead. This led Mark to believe that Kerry had broken her promise. However in reality, Susan had been offered the position, but turned it down.

The season opener saw Sam and Luka on the road hunting down Alex. He was finally found on the street by a cop who took him to a hospital where he was reunited with his mum. To prevent him from running away again, Sam went with him to the prison so that he could see his dad.

He has also appeared in the HBO series "Six Feet Under" and in the movie "Space Cowboys." Lourdes Benedicto made her first appearance as pediatric intern Rena Trujillo in "The Crossing." She appeared in four other episodes in season 7, making her final appearance in "Sailing Away." Elizabeth Mitchell began a recurring role as psychiatrist Dr. Kim Legaspi in "Mars Attacks." She appeared in many episode throughout the season, and after her character's romance with Dr. Kerry Weaver, she made her final appearance in the season 7 finale, "Rampage." Sally Field began a recurring role as Maggie Wyczenski, Abby's mother, in "The Visit." She appeared in 5 other episodes this season, making her final appearance in "Where the Heart Is." She also appeared in season 9 of "ER," as well as in a variety of movies, including "Mrs. Doubtfire," "Forrest Gump," and "Norma Rae," which she won an Oscar for her performance.

Ming-Na, the actress who plays Dr. Chen, was actually pregnant during this time, so it made sense that her character would go through a pregnancy as well. We find out that Dr. Corday is pregnant later in the season, in "Rescue Me." Dr. Weaver becomes pregnant during season 10. Up through the end of season 11, Abby has never been pregnant on screen, but we have learned (later in this season, during "Where the Heart Is") that she was at one time, but had an abortion.
