Guernica is a large (3.49 x 7.77 meters) black and white oil on canvas painting by Spaniard Pablo Picasso (1881-1973). The painting was created to fulfill a commission to decorate the Spanish Republic Pavilion at the 1937 World's Fair in Paris. Picasso had some ideas about what he would do, but when he read the report, by war correspondent George Steer, about the bombing of the city of Guernica, by the German Air Force, impressed by the atrocities he decided to use this motif in his work.

At the end of the exhibition, the painting, which served to draw the world's attention to the Spanish Civil War, toured several countries, spending many years under the tutelage of the MoMA of New York, because Picasso established that the work would not go to Spain until the death of dictator Francisco Franco. Picasso died in 1973, before Franco, who died in 1975.

As they were trapped in the labyrinth, by order of the king, Daedalus built two pairs of wings with feathers and wax so that he and his son could escape.

The father warned his son not to approach the sun or fly over the sea. But Icarus, ignoring the advice, flew close to the sun, then the wax on his wings melted and he drowned in the sea. This fable shows the dangers we run when we ignore advice or when, out of pride or self-confidence, we put ourselves at risk.
