Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Skill - criticism - fissure

Answer: Black

Knack - flak - crack

Having a knack for something you have a natural skill at. If you get flak for something, you are being criticized for what you did (or didn't) do. A fissure is a separation or line of breakage created when something cracks.

And of course, these terms all rhyme with the colour black.
2. Royalty - legume - spotted

Answer: Green

Queen - bean - seen

Queen is a royal title, beans are leguminous plants, and if you have been spotted, you have been seen.

And all of these terms rhyme with the colour green.
3. Uttered - ran away - expired

Answer: Red

Said - fled - dead

If you uttered it, then you've said it. Running away from a place or a situation (often dangerous) is to flee, or in the past tense: fled. To expire is just one of the many terms used to describe death - or being dead.

...which would make red the rhyming colour.
4. Instrument - associate - roar

Answer: Yellow

Cello - fellow - bellow

A cello is a musical instrument of the string family. A person you associate with can be called a fellow - and where many associate together for a common reason, it is a fellowship. To bellow is to emit a deep, loud roar (often in response to pain).

These words all rhyme, of course, with the colour yellow.
5. Thing - expression - entertainer

Answer: Brown

Noun - frown - clown

A noun is a word for a person, place, or (in this case) thing. A frown is one example of an expression that you can make...in this instance an expression of disapproval or sadness. A clown is a comedic entertainer, typically dressed up flamboyantly and with exaggerated makeup.

And all of these rhyme with the colour brown.
6. Murder - unravel - quarry

Answer: Grey

Slay - fray - prey

To slay something is to kill (or possibly murder) it. When a cloth or string frays, it is the beginning of unravelling. Another word for your prey (that which you hunt) is your quarry.

...and they all rhyme with the colour grey.
7. Courageous - unemotional - rebuke

Answer: Gold

Bold - cold - scold

Someone courageous is brave and/or bold. One way to describe someone who is unemotional is to say that they are cold or frigid. To scold is to reprimand or rebuke.

These terms all rhyme with the colour gold.
8. Libation - lizard - connection

Answer: Pink

Drink - skink - link

A libation is (technically) a drink that you pour out as an offering to a deity. A skink is a type of short-legged lizard. And a connection is a type of link, both physical and in other ways (like with words).

Of course, all these words rhyme with the colour pink.
9. Ceremony - power - vision

Answer: White

Rite - might - sight

A rite is a religious and/or solemn ceremony. One example of power is might, like 'Mighty Mouse'. And another word for vision is sight, or something you see.

White is, rightly so, the rhyming colour.
10. Genuine - litigate - evidence

Answer: Blue

True - sue - clue

Something that is genuine can be said to be true. To enter into litigation against someone is to sue them (take to court). When investigators find a piece of evidence, it is a clue to help solve a case.

These are all words that rhyme with the colour blue.
