Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Miss July of 1985 went on to appear in films such as "Hard Ticket To Hawaii" and "Savage Beach". Both films were directed by Andy Sidaris. Who was Miss July in 1985?

Answer: Hope Marie Carlton

Carlton played the character known as Tayrn in both films. Sidaris has made several films based on secret agents tracking down drug smugglers, would-be terrorists and jewel thieves. He often cast former "Playboy" Playmates in the starring roles. All of the actresses mentioned in this question have appeared in at least one of his movies.

Carlton also appeared in the Sidaris film "Picasso Trigger". Her film resume included the T.V. mini-series based on the Stephen King novel "The Stand".

The July of 1985 issue also featured a pictorial of singer and actress Grace Jones, a movie review for the Chevy Chase film "Fletch" and an interview with famed movie director Rob Reiner.
2. In the January of 1970 issue of "Playboy", the magazine informed readers on how to make an alcoholic drink called Skip And Go Naked. The ingredients included two jiggers of gin or vodka. What is a jigger?

Answer: One shot glass

One and a half fluid ounces was sometimes referred to as a "jigger" in bartender terms. The average shot glass holds approximately the same amount. The other ingredients in this particular drink included sugar syrup and juice from a lemon. Well after 1970, the lemon juice was often substituted with limeade. Some bartenders have been known to add orange juice in the mix.

This issue of "Playboy" also featured an interview with actress Raquel Welch. She was born in 1940. One of her earliest film roles was as an extra in the 1964 Elvis Presley film called "Roustabout".
3. The April of 1994 issue paid tribute to waitresses from various Hooter's restaurants. Playmate Heidi Mark graced the cover wearing the famous Hooter's outfit. That same year, Mark appeared in which of these short-lived television programs?

Answer: Thunder In Paradise

Heidi Mark played Allison Wilson in a couple of episodes along with Hulk Hogan, Chris Lemmon and Carol Alt.

Heidi Mark was featured as a Playboy Playmate eleven months after appearing on the cover of the April 1994 issue. She married Motley Crue vocalist Vince Neil in 2000. The marriage lasted a year.
4. John Travolta was interviewed in the issue from March of 1996. The article mentioned one of the following people purchased the suit Travolta wore in the 1977 film "Saturday Night Fever" for two-thousand dollars in 1978. Who was the buyer?

Answer: Film critic Gene Siskel

Siskel bought the white suit worn by Travolta in 1978. It was sold in 1995 for $145,000. Movie critic Gene Siskel died in 1999. He was 53 years old.

In this "Playboy" interview, John Travolta discussed his role in the 1994 film "Pulp Fiction". Prior to this film, the actor hadn't appeared in a successful film since the 1980 movie called "Urban Cowboy". Ironically, his earnings for "Pulp Fiction" were almost the same as the price in which the "Saturday Night Fever" suit had sold. After his outstanding role in "Pulp Fiction", reports indicated Travolta was taking home paychecks which amounted to $20 million dollars per film.
5. In the May of 1998 issue, the feature titled "Playmate News" announced that Vicki Iovine had written a book called "The Girlfriend's Guide To Pregnancy". What was her name when she posed for "Playboy"?

Answer: Vicki McCarty

Vicki McCarty was the featured centerfold for "Playboy" in September of 1979. She later married Interscope Records founder Jimmy Iovine and the couple had four children.

Vicki Iovine's book was fairly popular and the writer penned a few others based on topics such as parenting and relationships. She also earned a law degree in 1980. Iovine was chosen to pose for "Playboy" after being discovered while writing a story about the magazine's 25th Anniversary.

Laseter was the centerfold in February 1981. Cooke was Miss August of 1980. Smith won the title of "Playmate of the Year" in 1993. By the way, Vickie Lynn Smith would go on to be better known as Anna Nicole.
6. In a survey conducted for the "Raw Data" section in the May of 1989 issue, 80% of the people over the age of 65 claimed they would do which of the following?

Answer: Pick up a penny lying on the ground

Many issues of "Playboy" have featured a section called "Raw Data" in which the magazine has written about various statistics covering a wide range of data such as this. This issue revealed 58% of those under the age of 35 would pick up a penny. As the age groups increased, the percentages went up.

The May of 1989 issue also included an interview with actress Susan Sarandon, a story on talkshow host Geraldo Rivera and the featured Playmate was Monique Noel. Noel went on to star as an extra in such films as "Road House" (1989) and "Meatballs 4" (1992).
7. April 1980 "Playboy" centerfold Liz Glazowski was best known for which of the following?

Answer: She posed for a picture with Pope John Paul II

It's true. The October of 1999 issue mentioned Glazowski was the first and only Playmate to have her picture taken with The Pope. Naturally, the picture wasn't taken at the same time she posed for the magazine. The photo opportunity came to be when Pope John visited the city of Chicago several years later.

Liz Glazowski was discovered by "Playboy" after she submitted photos for the magazines 25th Anniversary Great Playmate Search. In the article which accompanied her pictorial, she stressed on how she was a very religious person and admired Pope John Paul II. That same year, the high profile Catholic appeared in the film "The Happy Hooker Goes Hollywood".
8. "Playboy" featured a monthly section called "Grapevine". The periodical used this section to discuss events in the world of entertainment. In the October of 1982 issue, mention was made about the release of the album entitled "Zombie Birdhouse". Which artist recorded the album?

Answer: Iggy Pop

"Zombie Birdhouse" featured such songs as "Eat Or Be Eaten" and "The Ballad Of Cookie McBride". Pop was the lead singer for The Stooges in the 1970s. His career has been lucrative in both music and acting. In 2003, he released yet another solo record called "Skull Ring".

This issue of "Playboy" included a cover with future "That 70s Show" actress Tanya Roberts. She portrayed Midge in many episodes. The centerfold pictorial was of Marianne Gravatte. Gravatte would eventually win the title of "Playmate of the Year".
9. Which MOTHER of the following actresses appeared in a pictorial for the September of 1995 issue of "Playboy"?

Answer: Drew Barrymore

Jaid Barrymore decided to bare all for the magazine and the pictorial came to be in 1995. Just eight short months earlier, Drew herself had posed for the magazine. Jaid has appeared in a few films such as "Night Shift" (1982) and "The Last Days Of Disco" (1998).

Liv Tyler's mother Bebe Buell posed for "Playboy in 1974. Tyler appeared in three "Lord of The Rings" movies between 2001 and 2003. She portrayed Arwen.

Mariska Hargitay's mother was better known as Jayne Mansfield. She appeared in "Playboy" in February of 1955. Mansfield made several films before her untimely death - an automobile accident - in 1967. Mariska was in the backseat and suffered minor injuries. She was three years old.

Jenny McCathy's mother Linda was never a model for "Playboy". At least she hadn't been prior to September of 2006. However, Jenny's sister Amy did debut on the magazine's website in 2004. Jenny went on to win "Playmate of the Year" in 1993. She beat out such hopefuls as Echo Johnson and Carrie Westcott.
10. The May of 1993 issue mentioned a comic book heroine patterned after Susie Owens (Miss March 1988). What was the name of this comic book?

Answer: Flaxen

"Flaxen" was published by Dark Horse comics in 1992. It was about a nurse named Cora who was transformed into Flaxen thanks to, as the comic described it, "a zap of voltage". She basically went from being a ridiculed and unpopular girl to a superhero who thwarted the plans of evil persons trying to destroy the world.

The May of 1993 issue also featured an interview with basketball star Charles Barkley. The NBA named his "Most Valuable Player" in 1993. The centerfold was Elke Jeinsen. She was born in Sweden in 1966 and appeared as an extra in numerous episodes of the television show "Baywatch".
