Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Canadian diva ensured that her family would go on by giving birth to twin boys in October 2010?

Answer: Céline Dion

Céline and her husband, Rene Angelil, had a son named Rene-Charles in 2001. Having suffered from fertility problems, Céline conceived twin boys via in-vitro fertilisation. They are named Eddy and Nelson (which always makes me think of the musical star from the 1930s and 1940s). None of the other answer options - Shania Twain, Nelly Furtado or Avril Lavigne gave birth in 2010.
2. Unusually, two of Britain's political party leaders both became fathers again in 2010. Which of these combinations is correct?

Answer: David Cameron and Ed Miliband

David Cameron became leader of the Conservative Party in 2005 and Prime Minister in 2010. The 2010 birth was the fourth child born to him and his wife, Samantha. Their first child, Ivan, was born severely disabled in 2002 and died in 2009. Ed Miliband became leader of the Labour Party in September 2010 and his partner gave birth to their second son in November 2010. Nick Clegg was elected leader of the Liberal Democratic Party in December 2007, and became deputy Prime Minister in the UK's coalition government, formed in 2010. Gordon Brown was Labour Party leader and Prime Minister, before resigning after the 2010 election.
3. Zoë Ball and Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim) became parents to a daughter in January 2010. They already had a son who shares his name with which 'Toy Story' character?

Answer: Woody

Both Zoë and Norman were well known as DJs, although not necessarily in the same genre. Norman also achieved success as a member of The Housemartins band. His real name was Quentin, but he adopted the more downmarket name of Norman, and also went by the name of Fatboy Slim when working as a DJ. Their son was born in December 2000 and his younger sister was given the names Nelly May Lois.
4. Which celebrity chef added to his army of children when his wife gave birth to a boy, after having three girls, in September 2010?

Answer: Jamie Oliver

All the options were well known chefs in the UK, with numerous television appearances to their credit. Jamie made no secret of his wish for a boy during his wife's fourth pregnancy, which was interpreted as meaning that he already knew it would be a son (or that he was totally insensitive).

He and his wife, Juliette although always referred to as Jools, already had three daughters - Poppy Honey, born in 2002, Daisy Boo, born 2003 and Petal Blossom Rainbow born in 2009. Their son was born in September 2010, and called Buddy Bear Maurice.
5. Kevin Pietersen and his former pop star wife, Jessica Taylor, had their first baby in May 2010. Kevin represented England in which sport?

Answer: Cricket

Pietersen was born in South Africa, but qualified to play for England as his mother was English. His wife was formerly a singer with the pop group 'Liberty X', who formed from runners-up in the 2001 reality television programme 'Popstars'. They actually had more success, and stayed together longer, than the winners, 'Hear,Say'. Jessica and Kevin were married in December 2007 and their baby boy, named Dylan, was born in May 2010.
6. Which former EastEnders actress gave birth to her first daughter in September 2010, and named her Eliza Beatrice (not Sonia)?

Answer: Natalie Cassidy

Natalie played the role of Sonia Jackson between 1993 and 2007, with a brief return in 2010. Among her most memorable scenes was one of her giving birth to a daughter, having not realised that she was pregnant. The real life birth was by Caesarean section, so should have been less traumatic. Danniella Westbrook played Sam Mitchell. Barbara Windsor, who played matriarch Peggy Mitchell, passed her 73rd birthday in 2010 and had no children. Lucy Benjamin played Lisa Fowler, whose character famously shot Phil Mitchell, Peggy's son and Sam's brother.
7. Denise Van Outen gave birth to Betsy in May 2010. She met her husband on the television show 'Any Dream Will Do'. Which of these was he?

Answer: Lee Mead

The purpose of the show, held in 2007, was to find an unknown to play the part of Joseph in a new production of 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat'. There was a judging panel, which included Bill Kenwright, John Barrowman and Andrew Lloyd Webber, as well as Denise Van Outen.

The public vote then left the two lowest scorers to face Lloyd Webber, who decided who to save. Lee Mead was the winner, and the other options were all among the final twelve candidates for the role.
8. Actress Anne-Marie Duff gave birth to her first child in 2010. In 2006, she married the baby's father, a fellow actor who appeared in 'Atonement'. Which of these was actors was he?

Answer: James McAvoy

All these actors appeared in 'Atonement', which was released in 2007, but McAvoy played the male lead, so should have been the best known of the options offered. He and Anne-Marie met while playing boyfriend and girlfriend in the first two series of the television series 'Shameless', in 2004 - 2005. McAvoy has also appeared in 'Band of Brothers' (2001) and 'The Last King of Scotland' (2006). Their baby boy was born in the summer of 2010 and called Andrew.
9. Which Australian singer/actress gave birth to a boy named Ethan Edward Smith in July 2010?

Answer: Dannii Minogue

All these actresses came to British attention by appearing in soap operas - Kylie, Natalie and Holly were all in 'Neighbours' and Dannii appeared in the rival series 'Home and Away'. Dannii was the only one to become a mother in 2010, and became engaged to her baby's father shortly after the birth.

He was a former professional rugby league player named Kris Smith. From 2007, Dannii appeared as a judge and mentor on reality television programmes 'The X Factor' in the UK and 'Australia's Got Talent' in her home country.
10. Which British comedian and his Australian raised wife became parents for the second time in the summer of 2010, although no official announcement of the birth was made at the time?

Answer: Sacha Baron Cohen

Sacha Baron Cohen married actress Isla Fisher in March 2010. Their daughter, Olive, was born in October 2007. The couple did not confirm the pregnancy, despite photos of Isla making it obvious, and the arrival of the new baby only became known when they were seen pushing a pram.

The baby's birth was assumed to be in August or September 2010, but no details were made public about the date, sex or name of the child.
