Answer: London, England

He often said he was born in Kirriemuir as he thought it sounded more romantic than saying London. He was named David as 1st March is St. David's Day. As a matter of interest I was born on St. Bartholomew's Day, but luckily my parents didn't follow the example of David's!

Niven played Sir James Bond in 'Casino Royale'. This is the film in which Woody Allen played 'Jimmy Bond'! David Niven is referred to in Ian Fleming's novel - 'You Only Live Twice'.

Answer: Barbary Coast (1935)

In this movie, he played a cockney sailor and had one line. I know that imdb.com and other sites list 'Without Regret' as his first speaking part but my source for this answer is Niven's autobiography - 'The Moon's A Balloon'.

Answer: It was the first Royal Command Film Performance.

It was indeed chosen to be the Royal Command Film Performance in 1946.
It is one of my favourite films and I recommend it thoroughly. It has been restored and released on video and DVD.

He married his first wife, Primula Susan Rollo in 1940. She sadly died in 1946). They had two sons. His second wife was Hjordis Tersmeden, a Swedish model. Married in 1948, they had two daughters.

He reprised the role of 'Sir Charles Litton' in the 'Curse of The Pink Panther' in 1983. He died shortly afterwards on 29th July 1983 of motor neuron disease. In the film, his voice, which was failing, was dubbed by the comedian, Rich Little.
