Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "A Charlie Brown Christmas", from which Gospel of the Bible does Linus quote when telling Charlie Brown what Christmas is all about?

Answer: Luke

When Linus is giving this speech, he drops the blanket when he gets to the line, "And the angel said unto them, Fear not..." because when he said that, Linus knew he could relax and didn't have to be afraid and therefore at that moment did not need his security blanket. "A Charlie Brown Christmas" first aired in 1965.
2. I saw this live, but in 2008, "Jeff Dunham's Very Special Christmas Special" was released on DVD. What song did Achmed sing?

Answer: "Jingle Bombs"

Achmed is one of Jeff's puppets. He is a dead terrorist. He mentioned, "Oh Holy crap, I think I blew my foot off," and "Silence! Night." I made up the other answers. However, he sang "Jingle Bombs" to the tune of "Jingle Bells." Jeff's other puppets on this special were Walter, who wants everyone to say Merry Christmas because he is intolerant of different beliefs.

Then Bubba J explained beernog was made by taking the egg nog out, pouring it down the sink, and drinking a beer. There was also Peanut, who doesn't like "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and attempts to modernize it, and José Jalapeño on a Stick.
3. Complete this line from "It's a Wonderful Life": "Teacher says every time a bell rings," what?

Answer: "An angel gets its wings."

"It's a Wonderful Life", starring James Stewart and Donna Reed, came out in 1946. George Bailey (Stewart) is having financial problems and is afraid he will be going to jail. He decides he should never have been born. Clarence (Henry Travers) is a wingless guardian angel trying to earn his wings by helping George see what his life would be like if he had never been born.

When George realizes it is good, he is born. George returns home to find that the entire town has gotten together and donated money to help him.

His brother Harry (Todd Karen's) declares that his brother is "the richest man in town." As everyone is singing "Auld Lang Syne", a bell on a tree rings, and George and Mary's (Reed) daughter Zuzu (Karolyn Grimes) says, "Teacher says, every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings."
4. I prefer the 1966 animated version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" to the other versions. June Foray supplied the voice for a two-year-old Who. What was her name?

Answer: Cindy Lou Who

Boris Karloff was the voice of the Grinch and the Narrator of the story. "You're a Mean One Mister Grinch" was sung by Thurl Ravenscroft. People may also know him as the voice of Tony the Tiger in the Frosted Flakes commercials for over fifty years until he died in 2005. Dr. Seuss wrote the lyrics to the songs in the movie.
5. Although it is called "The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade", it brings in the Christmas season as it has many Christmas songs played and a Santa at the end. In what city is this parade?

Answer: New York City

"The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" started in 1924. Beginning in 1953, it has been on television. One of my favorite things about this parade is seeing Broadway numbers performed on the street. In 1977, they made the giant Kermit the Frog balloon. However, all different types of balloons have been used since 1928.
6. In "Miracle on 34th Street", with Natalie Wood, who did Kris (aka Santa) put as his next of kin?

Answer: His reindeer

Edmund Gwenn played Kris Kringle. Natalie Wood played Susan Walker, a little girl who didn't believe in Santa because her mother, Doris, taught her not to believe he was real because as a child, she was hurt when she didn't get the gift she asked for. Maureen O'Hara played Doris Walker. Fred Gailey, who helped prove Kris was Santa in court, was played by John Payne.
7. My favorite TV show is "Cheers". In the season six episode, "Christmas Cheers", what did Sam give Rebecca?

Answer: Earrings

Sam Malone (Ted Dawson) found out that Rebecca Howe (Kirstie Alley) bought everyone a gift and that the others bought her a gift and went searching on Christmas Eve for a gift. All the stores are closed, but a woman sees him sitting on the ground defeated and offered to sell one of the gifts she has to him.

He decides to get her earmuffs. However, there was a mix-up, and Rebecca got the $500 earrings instead.
8. What is the elf's name as played by Will Ferrell in "Elf"?

Answer: Buddy

"Elf" came out in 2003. Buddy learns he is a human raised by elves at the North Pole. Realizing he doesn't fit in with the elves, he finds out his birth father is Walter Hobbs (James Caan). Buddy instantly loved his dad, but Walter at first wanted nothing to do with Buddy.
9. "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" came out in 1964. What did Hermey the elf (voiced by Paul Soles) want to be?

Answer: Dentist

"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" started as a poem for Ward's in 1939, written by Robert L. May. His brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, wrote the music in 1949. The well-known cartoon came out in 1964, and since then, there have been other versions as well.

The original has changed over the years, with songs and scenes added and removed. This special is considered clay-mation, not animation.
10. My favorite version of Charles Dicken's famous story adaptation is "The Muppet Christmas Carol." Who played Scrooge in that version?

Answer: Michael Caine

"The Muppet Christmas Carol" was released in 1992. Kermit, the Frog, plays Bob Cratchit. Gonzo narrates the story. There are two Marleys played by the critics Statler and Waldorf in this version. They sing a song, "Marley and Marley", about how they were greedy when alive and now are chained in death.
