Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Before Roy Harper became Red Arrow, he was Speedy, a sidekick to what superhero?

Answer: Green Arrow

The most famous story featuring Roy Harper deals with his addiction to heroin, which was an award-winning story in "Green Lantern" (vol. 2) #85-86 (1971).

Roy Harper's first appearance was as Speedy in "More Fun Comics" #73
(1941). He first appeared as Red Arrow in the alternate future story "Kingdom Come" #2 (1996), and adopted the identity in his main timeline in "Justice League of America" (vol. 2) #7 (2007).

Harper has also used the super-hero name Arsenal.
2. Assistant District Attorney Richard Raleigh is secretly the Red Bee, who uses trained bees to fight the Nazis. Where does he keep Michael, his favorite bee?

Answer: his belt buckle

The Red Bee first appeared in "Hit Comics" #1 (1940), published by Quality Comics. In 1956, most of Quality Comics' characters were sold to what is now DC Comics.

In the 2014 film "She's Funny That Way", Rhys Ifans plays Seth Gilbert, an actor who has played "Red Bee Man", a hero who keeps a trained bee in his belt buckle.
3. Ivan Kragoff traveled into space with three trained apes in order to gain super-powers by being exposed to cosmic radiation, becoming the Red Ghost and the Super-Apes. They were trying to copy the origin of what super-hero team?

Answer: The Fantastic Four

The original Super-Apes were Mikhlo the Gorilla (super strength), Igor the Baboon (shape-shifting), and Peotr the Orangutan (gravity/magnetism).

The Red Ghost first appeared in "Fantastic Four" (vol. 1) #13 (1963) published by Marvel Comics.
4. Which Batman foe is most associated with the Red Hood?

Answer: The Joker

The Red Hood first appeared in "Detective Comics" #168 (1951) published by DC Comics.

In that first story, a criminal calling himself the Red Hood eventually becomes the Joker. Subsequent re-tellings of the story state things a bit differently, with the future Joker being manipulated into crime. In the 1988 "Batman: The Killing Joke", the Joker explains that he prefers his past to be "multiple choice".

The Red Hood eventually became the alter-ego of Jason Todd, a former Robin who was killed by the Joker and later resurrected in the Lazarus Pit.
5. This character has a complicated relationship with the Hulk. He's hunted the Hulk, is the father of the Hulk's girlfriend, and has become the Red Hulk. Who is he?

Answer: General Thaddeus Ross

General Thaddeus E. "Thunderbolt" Ross first appeared in "The Incredible Hulk" #1 (1962), and first appeared as the Red Hulk in "Hulk" (vol.2) #1 (2008), both published by Marvel Comics.
6. The Rocket Red Brigade is a team of armored heroes who defend Russia. Which group of galactic heroes helped to create them?

Answer: Green Lanterns

The Rocket Red Brigade first appeared in "Green Lantern Corps" #208 (1987) published by DC Comics.

The alien Green Lantern Kilowog created the Rocket Red Brigade, and individual members have served on teams such as the Justice League.
7. Johann Schmidt is better known as the Red Skull, the archenemy of which patriotic hero?

Answer: Captain America

The Red Skull first appeared in "Captain America Comics" #7 (1941) published by Marvel Comics.

The Red Skull was played by Hugo Weaving in the 2011 film "Captain America: The First Avenger".
8. While the Silver Age Red Tornado was an android with wind-based powers, the Golden Age Red Tornado was an elderly woman who wore a cooking pot on her head. What was her name?

Answer: Ma Hunkel

Abigail Mathilda "Ma" Hunkel first appeared in "All-American Comics" #3 (1939). Inspired by her children's love of Green Lantern, she became the Red Tornado in "All-American Comics" #20 (1940), both published by DC Comics.

Unexpectedly strong and wearing a costume that disguised her figure, many characters assumed Red Tornado was a man.
9. Red Wolf is a legacy Native American granted superhuman powers by the wolf spirit Owayodata. He is usually accompanied by an actual wolf. What is his wolf companion's name?

Answer: Lobo

William Talltrees is the modern era's Red Wolf, and first appeared in "Avengers" (vol. 1) #80 (1970) from Marvel Comics. Due to the "historic" nature of the character, stories set in other time periods have involved other people becoming Red Wolf.

While Red Wolf is Marvel's first Native American super hero, he hasn't always been handled properly. Promotional images for a 2015 comic book series starring Red Wolf were criticized for the stereotypical handling of the character.
10. Redwing is the avian companion of which flying super-hero?

Answer: The Falcon

The Falcon (Sam Wilson) and Redwing first appeared in "Captain America" #117 (1969) published by Marvel Comics.

Anthony Mackie has played the Falcon in the movies, starting with 2014's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier". In "Captain America: Civil War" (2016), Redwing was the name of the remote drone operated by the Falcon.
