Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Morlocks of the Marvel Comics Universe, a band of outcasts and misfits, are named after the Morlocks created by H.G. Wells in his novel "The Time Machine". Why?

Answer: Both groups live underground.

The future-Earth Morlocks in "The Time Machine" live in underground tunnels and feed on the peaceful Eloi who inhabit the surface.

The Marvel Universe Morlocks are a group of mutants who live in a network of tunnels below Manhattan and who possess strange powers.
2. One of the Morlocks has the power to suppress or nullify the mutant abilities of any other mutant who approaches to within a certain distance of them. Who is this?

Answer: Leech

Caliban is mutant tracker, Masque is able to alter the physical appearance of another person and Blackout possesses superhuman physical attributes as well as the ability to negate light sources.
3. The X-Men are high-profile superheroes and the "public face" of mutantkind while the Morlocks (most of them physically deformed) live in their tunnels and avoid outside contact. Despite these differences, one of the X-Men has served as leader of the Morlocks. Which?

Answer: Storm

The X-Man Angel was kidnapped by the Morlocks and after Storm defeated the Morlock leader Callisto in a resulting duel she assumed leadership of the group.
4. The "Mutant Massacre" crossover event occurred when the Marauders, a band of evil mutants, attacked the Morlocks in their tunnels, killing many of them. Which of these was NOT a member of the Marauders?

Answer: Marrow

Marrow was a Morlock saved during the Mutant Massacre by the X-Man Gambit.
Sabretooth led the Marauders, including Vertigo and Blockbuster, in the attack on the Morlocks.
5. Which of the following was one of the founding members of the Morlocks?

Answer: Masque

Masque, as well as being a founding member of the Morlocks, took over the leadership of the group after the Mutant Massacre.
Cybelle was a Morlock killed by Harpoon during that same event.
Marrow and Leech both survived the Mutant Massacre and went on to become members of the X-Men and Generation X respectively.
6. The ancient evil mutant Apocalypse TWICE transformed the Morlock Caliban into one of his "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse". Which Horseman was Caliban genetically modified to become on the SECOND of these occasions?

Answer: Pestilence

The first instance occurred when Caliban, hungry for revenge after the Marauders killed many of the Morlocks during the Mutant Massacre, asked Apocalypse to make him more powerful. Apocalypse obliged by transforming him into the Horseman Death.
7. Which of the following fates did Angel suffer when the X-Men came to the aid of the Morlocks during the Mutant Massacre?

Answer: Crucified

Angel was crucified by the Marauders Blockbuster and Harpoon. Although he was rescued, this later resulted in the amputation of his wings.
8. Which superhero sustained a broken arm while fighting the Marauders during the Mutant Massacre in the Morlock tunnels?

Answer: Thor

While carrying the freshly-crucified Angel to safety, Thor was ambushed by the Marauder Blockbuster, who broke Thor's arm in the surprise attack. Thor was forced to kill Blockbuster and did so with a single blow.
It later emerged that Blockbuster was only able to break Thor's arm due to Hela, the Asgardian Goddess of Death, having placed a curse upon Thor.
9. How many of the Morlock Annalee's children were killed by Scalphunter during the Mutant Massacre?

Answer: Four

Scalphunter shot all four of Annalee's children in cold blood. This later resulted in the Morlocks' kidnapping of Power Pack, four super-powered children, to serve as replacements for Annalee's lost brood.
10. Which writer/artist team created the Morlocks?

Answer: Chris Claremont and Paul Smith

Well, one might think that these legends need no introduction but just in case:

The artists Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko each worked with writer Stan "The Man" Lee and these three giants of the medium are collectively responsible for creating many of the iconic characters in modern comics (including Spider-Man and the X-Men), not to mention playing pivotal roles in establishing Marvel as a serious player in the comic book industry.
That having been said, they had no direct hand in the creation of the Morlocks.

Steve Kirby is a vacuum cleaner salesman in Death Valley. Possibly. I've certainly never heard of him before.

'Nuff said!
