Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the artist and co-creator of the series?

Answer: J. H. Williams III

Williams got into comics in 1991 and earned kudos for work on "Batman" and "Starman." He drew the one-shot "Son of Superman" and also co-created "Chase" with D. Curtis Johnson.
2. When and where was the original Promethea born?

Answer: 5th century Egypt

Issue #1 begins in Alexandria in 411 C.E., with a little girl running away, on her doomed father's orders. In the desert, she meets Thoth and Hermes and tells them her name, "Promethea".
3. How does Sophie transform into Promethea?

Answer: By writing a poem

Mortally wounded during a fight with a smee in issue #1, Barbara Shelley (the most recent Promethea) hands Sophie a small pad and pen and tells her to write a poem about or description of Promethea. As she does this, Sophie changes into the new Promethea.
4. What is the name of the most popular comics character, featured in magazines and on billboards in the series?

Answer: Weeping Gorilla

When we first meet Sophie Bangs in issue #1, she is in the back of a cab with her best friend, Stacia Vanderveer, who is reading a "Weeping Gorilla" comic book. A billboard version can be glimpsed later in the issue.
5. What is the name of the team of "science heroes" that appears frequently in the series?

Answer: Five Swell Guys

The team introduces itself to Sophie when it encounters her during a routine patrol in issue #1.

8. What is the name of the clownish villain who makes his dramatic entrance in issue #6?

Faust makes the proposition in issue #9 and gives Sophie time to mull it over. She agrees at the end of the story.
10. What are the names of the snakes on Promethea's caduceus?

Answer: Barbara Shelley's guardian angel

Boo-Boo Ramirez, the younger version of Barbara, shows up in issue #17, when Sophie-Promethea and Barbara-Promethea are on their mystical journey.

15. The writer and artist of "Promethea" makes a cameo appearance near the end of the series.
