Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who said to Tony Atlas: "All you can do is shine my shoes, boy."?

Answer: Hulk Hogan

Hogan, accompanied by manager Freddy Blassie, interrupted Atlas on "Championship Wrestling" in 1981 while Atlas was doing an impromptu pose down for the fans. Hogan called Atlas a brown clown and said that anything Atlas could do, he could do better.

In the early 80s, many wrestlers made racist remarks while in character. Hulk Hogan is one of those wrestlers.
2. On an infamous 1984 installment of The Piper's Pit, the talk segment hosted by Roddy Piper on the program "Championship Wrestling", Piper attacked his guest by smashing a coconut across his head and then smearing banana in his face. Who was the guest?

Answer: Jimmy Snuka

The incident, which is referred to as "The Coconut Pit", launched one of the great feuds of the 80s and raised Piper's profile to that of legendary heel.
3. By the time the "Wrestlemania" era began, Bruno Sammartino was more or less retired as a wrestler, making fewer and fewer in ring appearances. Nevertheless, he did wrestle at one of the early "Wrestlemanias." Which one?

Answer: Wrestlemania 2

Sammartino participated in the 20 man Battle Royal in Chicago that included wrestlers and NFL players. It was won by Andre the Giant.
4. The first WWE Pay Per View event was "The Wrestling Classic" held in November, 1985, in Rosemont Illinois. It featured Roddy Piper against Hulk Hogan for the WWE Heavyweight Championship, as well as a 16 man tournament. Who won the tournament?

Answer: The Junkyard Dog

The Junkyard Dog defeated Randy Savage by count out in the tournament final.
Many of the matches in the tournament were quite short, but bookers did a good job making intriguing match combinations. Both The Junkyard Dog and Randy Savage were hugely over at the time, and the tournament also included face vs face matches and heel vs heel matches, a rarity in the WWE during the era.
5. A year after wrestling Hulk Hogan at "Wrestlemania 2" in one of the most anticipated matches in pro wrestling history, King Kong Bundy wrestled way down in the card at "Wrestlemania 3" as part of a gimmick Six Man Tag Team Match. Opposite Bundy was Hillbilly Jim. What was unusual about their tag team partners?

Answer: They were midgets.

The rules of the match were that only the midgets could wrestle each other, and likewise Bundy and Hillbilly Jim. The match ended in a disqualification for Bundy's team when Bundy body slammed midget wrestler Little Beaver, drawing the ire of Bundy's own teammates.

The slam resulted in a serious back injury for Little Beaver ending his wrestling career. Bundy, whose real name is Chris Pallies, has since expressed regret about the incident. In 1995, Little Beaver, whose real name is Lionel Giroux, died of emphysema.
6. Which face (good guy) tag team employed the tactic of putting on identical masks during matches in order to be able to switch places with each other without making legal tags?

Answer: The Killer Bees

This tactic helped the Bees win a number of matches against heel teams, but it was not enough to ever win them the WWE Tag Team Championship.
7. Why was Andre the Giant awarded a trophy on a 1987 telecast of "Superstars of Wrestling?"

Answer: He was undefeated in 15 years in the WWE.

The trophy presentation, during which Andre walked away as Hulk Hogan made a speech in honor of the accomplishment, was part of the build up to Hogan and Andre's epic confrontation at "Wrestlemania 3".

Though many feats incorporated into professional wrestling storylines are fiction, it is speculated that Andre's 15 year WWE undefeated streak was in fact legitimate. He had, however, lost the occasional match when wrestling for other promotions outside of North America.
8. In the mid and late 80s it was common for wrestlers to bring animals to the the ring, often involving them directly in the match. Which of the following was not a wrestler's pet?

Answer: Peggy Sue

Damien was Jake Robert's snake, Matilda the British Bulldogs' dog and Frankie Koko B. Ware's bird. Peggy Sue was The Honky Tonk Man's woman friend, usually portrayed by Sherri Martel, occasionally by Jimmy Hart.
9. While on special assignment on a 1988 episode of "Superstars of Wrestling," Mean Gene Okerlund met manager Slick in a dark inner city alley and was introduced to Slick's newest wrestler, Akeem. In fact, Akeem was not a new acquisition but an established member of Slick's stable who had taken on a new identity. What was Akeem's previous identity?

Answer: The One Man Gang

Like The One Man Gang, Akeem wrestled against the WWE's top faces, but the new character lacked credibility. Often wrestling as part of the Twin Towers with tag partner The Big Bossman, a team that was a force in the WWE, it was Akeem who was usually most culpable when the team took a loss. Wrestling fans have since criticized the decision to turn The One Man Gang into Akeem.
10. Why was Rick Rude's WWE Intercontinental Championship victory over The Ultimate Warrior at "Wrestlemania 5" extra significant for Rude's manager Bobby Heenan?

Answer: It was the first time one of Heenan's wrestlers won a WWE championship.

As the promotions top manager, Heenan had spent most of his first five years in the WWE mounting challenges to Hulk Hogan's Heavyweight Championship dynasty, and did not compete for either the Intercontinental or Tag Team titles.
