Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start off easy... In which book do Mary Anne and Dawn meet for the first time?

Answer: "#4 Mary Anne Saves the Day"

We meet Dawn, a new SMS student in #4. The BSC has a huge fight and poor Mary Anne is left sitting by herself. Dawn, on her second day at school, finds Mary Anne and considers herself lucky to find another "new kid."
2. OK. Now let's get serious. In "Claudia and the Perfect Boy," Claud starts a personals column for what main purpose?

Answer: To meet the guy of her dreams!

Claud's worried she can't find her dream guy, so with the assurance of Stacey (who suggests she do the column in the first place), so asks Emily Bernstein, editor of the paper, to host her personals' page. Eventually, she doesn't meet the guy of her dreams, but she has a blast with it--and with playing matchmaker!
3. In "Stacey and the Cheerleaders," most of the group's members are nice to Stacey (for the most part). But one really has it out for her. Who is it, and why?

Answer: Corrine, for "stealing" Robert

Corrine's a real snob! She likes to think Robert's with her, but we all know Robert's got a thing for Stacey--and they make a great couple!
4. How did Ann M. Martin and the Scholastic book crew come up with the names of Abby and Anna for the girls that would "replace" Dawn in the BSC?

Answer: held a contest and the winner received a book dedicated to her

I remember the contest and I actually sent names in! The two names I sent in were Addy and Abby (so close, but I bet it would get confusing). A fellow obsessor sent in these two names: Melanie and Melody (well we WERE children of the '80's). For the record, Martin tends to just pick names she likes for her characters--makes sense, doesn't it? If you're going to see them an awful lot, you ought to at least like them! :-)
5. In Mystery 6, "The Mystery at Claudia's House," Janine starts "borrowing" some of Claud's clothes and makeup. What hideous color does the poor girl pick out for her lipstick?

Answer: orange

Poor Janine! She's spent all her time being a genius and now that she has a boyfriend she's got to get, well, some flare. After Claud figures out the mystery, she's there to help Janine. Yay!
6. What's the slang nickname for local hangout the Rose Bud cafe?

Answer: The Road Spud

Logan works part-time there as a busboy. Mary Anne jokes they have a lot of customers after school because girls go there just to gawk at him. That may be true, but it's the local hangout (well that and Pizza Express!)--where else can the SMS gang go to chill?
7. Where do Claudia and her crazy Aunt Peaches go late at night (in "#78 Claudia and Crazy Peaches") that gets Claud in trouble--and causes a fight between them?

Answer: Pizza Express

Peaches has a craving--and when does Claud turn down junk food?! Problem: oops, they forgot to leave a note to let Mr. & Mrs. Kishi know!
8. Cokie Mason eventually does land a date with Logan.

Answer: True

When Mary Anne and Logan break up, Cokie, Mary Anne's arch rival (well, as close as an arch rival as Mary Anne could have), and Logan start dating--in #46. They don't become serious, which is good, because Mary Anne's been missing Logan, and yes, Logan does miss her too!
9. Toward the end of the series, Mallory Pike was having trouble in school. Why?

Answer: She was getting picked on and called "Spazgirl"

I hope you guys got that one right! :-) In "#122 Kristy in Charge," Mal taught a class for 8th graders and was so nervous she goofed a couple times. Chalk flew out of her hands and she dropped paper handouts all over the place. Poor Mal--she was just trying to spread her love of English. But who in the heck would put a shy 6th grader in charge of an 8th grade class?
10. Which one of Kristy's Krusher's is the only one that insists on spelling "krusher" korrectly (couldn't resist!): "crusher"?

Answer: Karen

Karen Brewer, Kristy's stepsister, is a stickler for rules! Jake and Matt couldn't care less; as Krusher stars they are more concerned with cracking the ball into home run terrority. And Charlotte? She's not a Krusher, but she cheers them on. She's a loyal fan and friend!
