2. What is the highest point in Botswana?

Botswana is predominately flat and has desert in the south west. The highest point can be found in the Tsodilo Hills with no peak any higher than 1,489 m.
3. What is the longest river in Botswana?

Answer: Okavango River

All the options are rivers in Botswana, however, the Okavango is the longest at 1,000 miles (1,600 km). It starts in central Angola and passes thorough southern Angola and Namibia. It empties into the Okavango Swamp, a large wetland north of Lake Ngami in northern Botswana.
4. What is the currency of Botswana?

Answer: Pula

The Pula came into circulation in 1976 replacing the South African Rand. In the native language, Pula means "rain" and is seen as precious as Botswana rarely gets any rain. The currency comes in the form of the 5, 10, 25 and 50 thebe and 1, 2 and 5 Pula as coins, and 10, 20, 50 and 100 Pula in notes. 100 Pula is equivalent to US$16-$17 or £8.50 in Sterling.
5. Which one of these statements is TRUE of Botswana?

Answer: It is totally landlocked.

Botswana is slightly smaller than the US state of Texas. It mainly deals in diamonds and cattle. 70% of Botswana is desert and the vast majority of its estimated 1.6 million population live along the banks of the river Okavango.
6. Which country borders Botswana to the west?

Answer: Namibia

The Republic of Namibia can be found in the southern part of Africa with its western coastline facing the Atlantic Ocean. It has been an independent country since 1990 after the end of apartheid in neighbouring South Africa. It is half the size of Alaska and its official language is English.
7. How many hours ahead is Botswana from London Greenwich Mean Time (outside of any daylight saving adjustments)?

Answer: Two hours

Botswana falls into the Central Africa time zone and therefore is two hours ahead of the GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). When it is 9 o'clock in the morning in London, it will be 11 o'clock in the morning in Botswana.
8. What is the official language of Botswana?

Answer: English

English is the official language, however, the national language is Tswana. This is spoken in many parts of the country and derives from the Bantu family of languages, a general term for over 400 ethnic groups in Africa.
"Robala sentle" means in English "Sleep well" and is used as a common form of farewell in Botswana.
9. Which desert can be found in the south west of Botswana?

Answer: Kalahari

The Kalahari covers the vast majority of Botswana (70%) and parts of Namibia and South Africa. Two famous things about the Kalahari are that it is home to a number of game reserves, which helps protect a number of endangered species and also that it is home to the Bushmen of the Kalahari, who have been nomadic hunter gatherers for many thousands of years.
10. When did Botswana win its independence from Great Britain?

Answer: 1966

The British took over Botswana in 1885 and called the land "Bechuanaland". In 1964 Britian started listening to the claims for independence, and eventually gave full control in 1966. After elections were held successfully full Independence was awarded because in the eyes of the British it was dealt in the correct manner.
