Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To which country should you travel to visit the Eiffel Tower?

Answer: France

The Eiffel Tower was built in Paris, France in 1889 for the World's Fair and is one of the most famous structures in the world. If you want to travel to France, this is a must-see landmark. You can ascend to one of the observation decks and look out at all of Paris; from here you can see the Arc de Triomphe, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and the Seine River.
At one point, it was the world's tallest building!
2. Where would you go to visit the Amazon Rainforest?

Answer: Brazil

The Amazon Rainforest is the world's largest jungle, so it would be pretty easy to get lost there! Home to thousands of birds, mammals, plants, and bugs, it's one of the most interesting spots on the globe for zoologists. Most of the Amazon is found in Brazil (about three-fifths of it) but you could also visit it from Bolivia, Peru, and other South American countries. Brazil is also home to the city of Rio de Janeiro which is known for its beautiful beaches.
3. Wow! That's a big wall! To which country would you travel to visit this 'great' landmark?

Answer: China

The Great Wall of China is a true wonder. Made by the Chinese over several centuries, this stone wall is over eight thousand kilometers long stretching across most of the country! It was originally built by the Chinese to protect their lands from armies to the north. Since then, it's become a major landmark and can be visited from China's capital city, Beijing.

While some of the wall has been preserved over the years, a lot of it is damaged.
4. Where are the streets? It looks like everyone's traveling by boat! To which country would you travel to ride a gondola?

Answer: Italy

Gondolas are most well-known in Venice, Italy, a city with a canal system which requires that people travel around in boats rather than in cars. That's not to say people don't walk around in Venice-- it's also called 'The City of Bridges'-- narrow pathways allow people to walk around the city and cross the canals. Venice is also known as 'The Floating City' because it's built on a lagoon; the entirety of Venice seemingly floats on the water. You can find Venice in Northern Italy.
5. Where in the world could you visit this great pyramid?

Answer: Egypt

Egypt is a fascinating country filled with ancient relics and artifacts. The Great Pyramids of Giza are one of the seven ancient wonders of the world (and the only ones left in existence)! The capital city of Cairo is home to the Nile River, the pyramids, and the Sphinx. If you travel along the Nile, the world's longest river, you'll also be able to visit Luxor, Aswan, and Alexandria, all famous cities containing ruins, temples, and historical sites.
6. This opera house and bridge are both famous landmarks in the largest city of what 'down under' country?

Answer: Australia

Australia is part of Oceania and it's found entirely in the southern hemisphere. While Sydney isn't the capital city (Canberra is) it is its most populated and it's home to a number of famous sites including the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. Australia is also home to Uluru (Ayers Rock) as well as the Great Barrier Reef on the northeast coast.

Much of the middle of the country is flat desert land and it's the only place in the world where you can find kangaroos and koalas in the wild!
7. High up in the mountains, you'd be able to visit the ruins of Machu Picchu in which country?

Answer: Peru

Found more than two kilometers above sea level, the ruins at Machu Picchu were built hundreds of years ago by the Inca people. It has since become one of the new seven wonders of the world. Peru is a fascinating country comprised almost entirely of the Andes Mountain range.

Its capital city, Lima, and what was once the Incan capital, Cuzco, are both quite different; Lima is on the Pacific Coast, but Cuzco is almost three and a half kilometers above the ocean! The country of Peru is also commonly associated with llamas.
8. In this country you could visit cities like Honolulu, Anchorage, and Chicago. What country contains all three?

Answer: United States

The United States is one of the most diverse countries in the world stretching to Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean, Alaska near the Arctic Circle, and across North America. In the United States you can see the Statue of Liberty, Walt Disney World, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Space Needle, and hundreds upon hundreds of other famous landmarks.

There are fifty states in America, two of which are not part of the continental grouping-- Hawaii and Alaska are not attached.
9. If you don't want to visit the Arctic Circle in this large country you could always take a trip up the CN Tower. Where in the world is this?

Answer: Canada

The Arctic Circle takes in a large portion of Northern Canada, and while much of the country is quite far north, many of its southern cities (along the American border) can be quite warm in the summer. The CN Tower can be found in Toronto in the province of Ontario; the capital of the country is Ottawa. Canada contains a total of ten provinces and three territories, and each region is home to different customs and cultures-- Quebec, for example, uses French as its primary language!
10. If you fly to this country you can visit the remains of a wall left mostly torn down in the year 1989. Where can you visit the city of Berlin?

Answer: Germany

The Berlin Wall used to separate Germany into two sides and was built during the Cold War. In 1989, the wall was torn down, marking the end of the war. Germany is a rather large European country with an expansive history. Aside from Berlin you could also visit Munich, Cologne, and Frankfurt. Germany was the home of the Brothers Grimm and several famous classical composers.

It's also a country rather famous for beer.
