Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these descriptions of Luna's eyes is never mentioned in the book?

Answer: Peculiar eyes

Throughout the book, Luna's eyes are described in different ways. In the chapter "Luna Lovegood", when Harry, Ginny and Neville enter the compartment on the train, Luna is already in there. The first description of Luna says that "she had straggly waist length, dirty blonde hair with pale eye browse and protuberant eyes". Later in the book her eyes are described as "oddly misty". "Luna turned her pale eyes on him instead" and "Luna Lovegood's popping eyes appeared over the top of her upside-down magazine again" are mentioned in the chapter "Luna Lovegood"; also in the same chapter, they are described as "prominent eyes".
2. On the portrait of Dilys Derwent at St Mungo's what years are mentioned that she worked as a healer?

Answer: 1722-1741

In the chapter "St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injurys", Harry, the Weasleys, Mad Eye Moody and Nymphadora are visiting Mr Weasley. On a wall in the hostpital there are notices and posters along with a portrait of Dilys Derwent. The portrait was labelled:
"Dilys Derwent
St Mungo's Healer 1722-1741"
Underneath this information it tells us that Dilys Derwent was headmistress at Hogwarts from 1741-1768.
3. Who went to find out more about Bungy the Budgie, on the muggle news at the beginning of the book?

Answer: Mary Dorkins

At the beginning of the book, Harry is listening to the muggle news at 7 O'Clock. None of his friends are writing about what is happening with Voldemort in their letters, so he is listening on the muggle news to see if there is any information about mysterious things happening to muggles. While he is listening to the news, there is a piece of news about a budgie called Bungy: "And finally, Bungy the Budgie has found a novel way of keeping cool this summer. Bungy, who live at the Five Feathers in Barnsley, has learned to water ski." Then it tells us that Mary Dorkins went to find out more.

The other people are mentioned in the other books. Hetty Bayliss was one of the witnesses who saw the flying car in "The Chamber of Secrets", Jim McGuffin was the weatherman on the television in "The Philosopher's Stone", and Herbert Chorley is one of the muggle Prime Minister's Junior Ministers in "The Half-Blood Prince".
4. Which one of these names does Uncle Vernon call Dementors?

Answer: Demembers

In the chapter "A Peck of Owls", after Dudley has been attacked by Dementors, Harry is trying to tell Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia what happened. Uncle Vernon, who has never heard of Dementors before, keeps calling them by the wrong name, using a different name each time.

The first time he does this, he calls them "Dementy-Whatsits". He also calls them "Dementoids", "Demenders" and "Dismembers". The correct answer is Demembers: "These Demembers guard some weirdo prison?".
5. How long did the essay that Professor Binns set on "Giant Wars" have to be?

Answer: A foot and a half

During Harry's fifth year he and the other fifth years are given lots of homework to prepare themselves for their O.W.L examinations. On the same day, Professor Binns and Professor Snape set them a one foot long essay on moonstones and Professor Trelawney set them some homework to do a dream diary for a month. On their way from Divination to Defence Against the Dark Arts, Ron is talking about all the homework they have to do, he mentions the foot and a half essay set by Professor Binns. We don't see Professor Binns give them the essay.
6. Which floor in St Mungo's would you have to go to if you had Scofungulus?

Answer: Second floor

In the chapter "St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries", after Harry has had the dream about the snake, the Weasleys, Tonks and Mad Eye Moody go to visit him in the hospital. When they get into the hospital there is a floor guide telling people which floors different things are on. According to the guide, the ground floor is for artefact accidents, the first floor is for creature induced injuries, the second floor is for magical bugs, the third floor is for potion and plant poisoning, the fourth floor is for spell damage and the fifth floor is the visitors tea room and hospital shop. Scofungulus is a magical bug so if you had it you would go to the second floor.

Answer: 41
