1. Which of these empires did the Huns, under Attila's leadership, battle with?

Answer: Roman Empire

The Roman Empire had signed a treaty with the Huns in order to keep peace, but they did not pay the tribute they promised. This caused Attila to continue his war against the Romans.
2. Easter Island, home of the Easter Island heads, got its name from the explorer who found it, Bjorn Easterling.

Answer: False

In 1722, Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen found the island on Easter Sunday, and named it after the holiday. The Easter Island statues, or Moai, were made from volcanic rock.
3. Which U.S. president arranged the Lewis and Clark expedition, which was assisted by Sacagawea?

Answer: Thomas Jefferson

With the Louisiana Purchase recently completed, Thomas Jefferson felt that the land to the west needed to be explored all the way to the Pacific Ocean. The expedition, called the Corps of Discovery, set out in May 1804, with Sacagawea and her husband joining them in late 1804 to act as interpreters.
4. Of the three ships used on Christopher Columbus' first voyage of exploration to the New World, which did not return to Spain?

The largest ship, the Santa Maria, ran aground off of Hispaniola (now Haiti and the Dominican Republic) on Christmas Day 1492. The wood from the ship was used to build a fort which Columbus named La Navidad. Columbus returned to Spain on the Nina.

Adopted son and heir of Julius Caesar, Gaius Octavius (known as Octavian) became one of the rulers of the Roman Republic after the death of Caesar. After Octavian defeated Mark Antony at the Battle of Actium, the Roman Empire was established, and Octavian was given the name Augustus.
7. Where did the two lines of the first transcontinental railroad in the U.S. meet (one headed eastward from Sacramento, and the other westward from Omaha)?

Answer: Utah

The railroad was begun after the Pacific Railway Act of 1862 was passed, with construction completed in 1869. The ceremonial Golden Spike connecting the two lines was driven on May 10, 1869 in Promontory Summit, Utah.

Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States, serving from September 1901 through March 1909. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 for negotiating the peace treaty in the Russo-Japanese War.
