Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I think this shade called sea is very pretty. Sea is what type of color?

Answer: Green

It is commonly called "sea green". I would call it a bluish-green, too.

All shades of green are made from mixing yellow with blue, but sea green has more blue in it than some other green shades do. Lime green has more yellow in it.

Disney's Ariel--also known as the Little Mermaid--is portrayed with a sea green dress sometimes. That makes sense because she comes from the sea!
2. This is a shade that someone could find in a box of Crayola crayons. Wild strawberry is the closest to which color?

Answer: Red

Strawberries are fruits that are normally red. Sometimes they taste sweet, but other times they taste a little tart. Strawberry yogurt is good; strawberry ice cream and strawberry pie are good too.

"Wild strawberry" looks like it's a mix between red and pink. "Wild watermelon" is another red-related color. It is red with maybe a bit of orange in it.
3. Royal, orchid, and lavender are all shades of what?

Answer: Purple

Lavenders and orchids are both flowers and not just colors.

The colors lavender and orchid are normally purple, but sometimes you'll see versions of them a little more on the pink side.

Purple has been associated with royal people for many, many years. Egyptian, Roman, Persian, and British royalty all wore it!
4. Robin's egg is a pretty shade of which of these colors?

Answer: Blue

"Robin's egg blue" is named after the eggs of the American robin. The eggs truly are a light blue color.

House finches and starlings lay blue eggs too!

Bluebirds may sometimes, but not always, lay blue eggs. Some bluebirds' eggs are white.
5. Emerald is a gemstone, but it is also a deep shade of what?

Answer: Green

The emerald gemstone is the green version of the mineral beryl. Aquamarine is the blue version of beryl and morganite is the pink version of beryl.

The Emerald City is featured in "The Wizard of Oz".

As for the color, it is such a deep and rich green and I think it's just beautiful.
6. Cotton candy is a version of what color?

Answer: Pink

Another common color for cotton candy is light blue, but pink is the correct answer here. This is a light and cute shade of pink.

Cotton candy is made by spinning sugar. This is its usual name in the United States of America. It is called "candy floss" in some countries of the world and it's called "fairy floss" in Australia.
7. What type of color is periwinkle? It's similar to that of the sky.

Answer: Blue

Periwinkle is also a flower!

And here's something really interesting: another name for periwinkle is lavender blue! This is because it is somewhat of a purplish-blue.

The sky is blue too, but it's lighter and not a purplish-blue. (I just put it in there for a hint.)
8. One of my favorites is raspberry. It has red in it, but the Crayola color called raspberry is similar to which of these?

Answer: Pink

In this case, "raspberry" is a dark pink. But the color can differ a little depending on the version. "French raspberry" has more red in it. "Raspberry glace" is a deep reddish-purple.

Raspberries are fruits. Sometimes they are served with strawberries and blueberries.
9. The color that is called peach is a type of orange.

Answer: True

Peaches are actually my favorite fruit...but I don't like peach yogurt or peach ice cream. Is that weird or what?

The color may also sometimes be considered a shade of yellowish pink. I think this is because red and yellow makes orange, and red and white makes pink. Therefore, if you mix pink with yellow, you'll get a very light orange or peach!
10. Chocolate can be a shade of a color! Which color?

Answer: Brown

The sweet food may also be white, but the color called chocolate is a dark brown. This is because chocolate as a food normally is brown.

There are three main types of the chocolate that you can eat: dark, milk, and white.

Milk chocolate is a lighter brown than the dark chocolate is.

Chocolate is great in ice cream, cakes, cookies, and muffins, to name a few.
