Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you're angry, you're probably seeing this colour. What is the colour, one connected with both love and hate, as shown?

Answer: Red

Red is one of the three primary colours and it can be found all over the place. Besides red being a colour of love it's also a colour of anger and hate. You can eat red fruits like strawberries or red vegetables like beets. Blood is red and fire can be too!
You can find a number of different shades of red as well; you can see ruby red or crimson, or even a shade known as barn red, which is best used on the farm.
Red is also a colour meaning stop and danger. It also represents 'hot' things (like on a faucet).
2. This colour can be as bright as the sun or it can be found on a really sour fruit. What's its name?

Answer: Yellow

Another one of the primary colours, yellow is the colour found on lemons, butter, egg yolks, and banana peels. Baby chicks are yellow and so are sunflowers. Because yellow is a cheerful colour it's commonly linked to being happy.
What about shades? Well, you could see lemon yellow, golden yellow, or even a Chinese royal yellow; in China, yellow is a very important colour.
Yellow is also a colour that means caution; it's usually in the middle of a traffic light.
3. A clear sky. The cold. The ocean. These things come to mind with what colour depicted?

Answer: Blue

A primary colour (along with red and yellow), blue usually reflects sadness but can be a beautiful colour regardless. Not only is it the colour of a clear sky, but water (which is clear) can reflect the blue from above and also take on the colour.
The opposite of red in regards to temperature, blue usually means 'cold'.
Other blue things you can find include blueberries, bluebirds, and blue jeans. Many royal figures are known to wear blue. Shades can range from a light sky blue to a deep, dark ultramarine or navy blue.
4. What colour is created when you mix blue and yellow?

Answer: Green

Mixing two primary colours creates a secondary colour, so when blue and yellow are mixed you create green. Green is a colour of wealth or money and also of nature; trees can be green, and so can grass. Fresh vegetables like broccoli and cucumbers can be green; so are limes. Someone can be green with envy or they can turn green if they're seasick.
Other shades of green that you can find are hunter green, kelly green, forest green, and olive green.
Green, on a traffic light, means 'go'!
5. This colour has a fruit named after it and it comes from mixing red and yellow. What is it?

Answer: Orange

A secondary colour, because you mix two primary colours to get it, orange is the colour of-- well, oranges. That's not all though. Orange can be the colour of goldfish, hot peppers, carrots, peaches, and pumpkins.
Likewise, orange has a lot of shades. These include burnt orange, tangerine, and vermilion. Typically linked to autumn, orange is also used in Halloween and Thanksgiving celebrations.
Orange is also a colour that means 'warning'.
6. Mixing blue and red will create what colour linked to royalty?

Answer: Purple

Purple, a dark secondary colour, is best known for being a colour worn by kings and queens to reflect their power and wealth. Many flowers are purple including, to an extent, the violet. While violet is a separate colour, it is made by combining red and blue in different amounts. Eggplants are purple as well as some grapes.
Other shades of purple or violet include plum, indigo, fuchsia, and magenta.
7. What is this colour, typically seen on the bark of a tree?

Answer: Brown

Brown is created by combining several other colours, usually the three primary colours (though there is little blue involved). Brown is a very natural colour seen on rocks, trees, dirt, and dead plants. It's also a prominent hair colour.
Brown is the colour of chocolate and many nuts.
Some other shades of brown include mahogany, chestnut, and russet brown. A wide array of these colours can be seen on animals such as bears, moose, beavers, cats, and dogs. Brown is also an eye colour.
8. This smoky colour is seen by many as dull. What is the colour shown?

Answer: Grey

The colour of rainclouds, smoke, and fog, grey is a neutral colour typically connected with being sad. There can be warm greys and cool greys depending on how many other colours are mixed in. Grey seems to be an in-between colour; it's a hue of uncertainty.
There are at least fifty shades of grey out there, some of which can be seen in human hair, rough rocks and metal.
'Grey' is also spelled 'gray' in the United States.
9. Light of this colour, when split, actually contains all of the colours in the rainbow. What is it?

Answer: White

White is a very unique colour. When you split a white light with a prism, you can see all of the colours inside.
White is seen as a pure, innocent colour. It's the colour of snow, poofy clouds, and goodness. You can also see white on chalk, polar bears, and milk.
It's not to say that there's only one white though; you can see off-white, eggshell white, and ivory amongst other shades.
10. What dark colour is devoid of light?

Answer: Black

The polar opposite of white, black is made by removing light and colour. Because it's the opposite of white it's also the colour of evil, night, darkness, and impurity. Black is a hair colour and the colour of chalkboards, blackberries, and unlucky cats.
Black, like white, also has shades. Aside from pure black, you can also see charcoal, onyx, licorice, and ebony. Black also symbolizes power.
