Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Purple is made up of which two colours?

Answer: Blue and red

Purple is obtained when blue and red are mixed together. In art, purple is between magenta and violet on the colour wheel.
2. What colour can be obtained if you mix orange and green?

Answer: Brown

Orange is made up of red and yellow and green is made up of blue and yellow so, in fact, you are mixing the colours of blue, red and lots of yellow.
3. Which of the following is not a primary colour?

Answer: Green

The three primary colours are red, blue and yellow. Green is a secondary colour which means it is formed by mixing the two primary colours of yellow and blue.
4. You can mix the colours blue and yellow to make green. Blue and yellow are primary colours but what kind of colour is green?

Answer: Secondary colour

Secondary colours are those that have a mixture of any two of either blue, yellow or red. Tertiary colours are a mixture of all three primary colours in some combination, but not necessarily in equal parts.
5. Mixing 3 parts of red, 3 parts of blue and 2 parts of green will give you what colour?

Answer: Black

Mixing the three colours in equal parts will give you brown but adding extra red and blue will darken the colour and therefore you end up with black.
6. You want to make white, what colours do you mix?

Answer: You cannot make white by mixing paint colours

White is actually the sum of all colours of light (and you see these split up in a rainbow). However, you cannot mix paint colours to make white, as this only works with light!
7. What will happen if you mix black with a colour?

Answer: It will darken the original colour

Mixing black with any colour will darken the colour you mixed it with except of course if you mix black and white it will turn the white to grey.
8. What colour would you get if you mix yellow, red and blue in equal parts?

Answer: Brown

To make brown you could also add blue to orange or red to purple or red to green.
9. Which of the following is a tertiary colour?

Answer: Red-orange

Red-orange is created when red and orange are mixed together. Purple, orange and green are secondary colours.
10. Which colours would you blend if you want to make a tan colour?

Answer: Black and Orange

To achieve darker colours add black. By adding white to brown you can also make a tan colour.
