Annabeth and Percy went down and grabbed the shield in the boat and found Aphrodite's scarf of love there, too. Hepheastus had set up a trap on the shield, and the cupid statues made a net to trap them in. Spiders then attacked. Annabeth started screaming like crazy, then Percy used his power over waters to jettison them out over a gate. Ares gave them transportation as a reward.

Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were surrounded by a gang of kids armed with switchblades. Percy attacked one with Riptide, but the blade was celestial bronze and it passed through the kid. The kid chased them and they hid in a mattress shop. A monster lured Annabeth and Grover to lie on two of the beds, then bound them to the beds by magic. All his mattresses were five feet long and he had to either stretch people to that length or chop body parts off to make them shorter. Percy saved the day by tricking the monster into lying on a bed, then binding him and stabbing him with Riptide.

It was the Lotus Hotel. Percy realized he was trapped in time when he met a boy claiming the year was 1965 and claiming he had only been there for two weeks. He grabs the group and they escape, finding out the date was June 20, one day before the summer solstice deadline.
