Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the first creature who joins up with Lord Brocktree on his quest?

Answer: Dorothea, a young female hare

Dorothea, more commonly known as Dotti, regards herself as a fatal beauty, a great warrior and a wonderful singer. She is very pretty and a brave fighter. However, her voice is described as being worse than "a frog trapped beneath a hot stone". She is also a lousy cook, and has a quick temper.

Despite these shortcomings, she is faithful and gutsy. She becomes the first General of the Long Patrol after defeating the hare King Bucko Bigbones and winning his crown and army for Brocktree.
2. Who is the arch-villain of the book?

Answer: Ungatt Trunn the wildcat

After taking over Salamandastron, Ungatt Trunn began to have nightmares about Lord Brocktree coming to slay him with an army. When the heroic badger arrived with his army and took back the mountain, Trunn agreed to a duel with him. The wildcat was defeated and thrown into the sea.
3. Who are the next two creatures to join up with Lord Brocktree?

Answer: Ruff the otter and Gurth the mole

Ruff was a loner, having left his holt because of his trouble-causing ways. He joined Brocktree and Dotti after he was spotted and ambushed by them. Gurth was a wanderer, often returning to his family cave but happier travelling. He was also a champion wrestler.
4. The squirrel leader Jukka's favourite weapon is a bow.

Answer: False

It's actually a sling. Her full name is Jukka the Sling. She meets Fleetscut when he is searching for young hare warriors. He asks her for help, she refuses, and he calls her a coward. She is determined to show him she isn't and helps him on his quest - unwillingly.

She manages to disguise herself a a member of Trunn's army, releases a signal arrow and is then discovered. Fleetscut is sneaking in through the cellars when she appears, looking for help. They die together as friends.
5. The infant hedgehog called Skittles has another name. What is it?

Answer: Burrtrump

Skittles, who is only two seasons old, is a highly skilled runaway who drives his mother out of her mind. After he is found by the Guosim, they meet up with his parents' tribe, the Rabblehogs, who have allied themselves with the tribe of Jukka the Sling.

As the Guosim have met up with Lord Brocktree's little gang, they all go together to find the realm of Bucko Bigbones. Skittles becomes very fond of Brocktree, who pretends the baby hedgehog is a nuisance.
6. Ripfang is so called because of what distinguishing feature?

Answer: One tooth in the top middle of his mouth

He has nothing to do with the Ripfang who was killed by Brocktree's son Boar the Fighter, however, they both have the same temper and recklessness tempered with fear of badgers.
7. What is Ungatt Trunn's favourite weapon?

Answer: Trident

It's made of bronze, which doesn't really match up to steel. That's why Brocktree was able to cut off one of its prongs and surprise Trunn before grabbing him and breaking his back.
8. Doomeye is better with a bow than his brother.

Answer: True

When Brocktree and Trunn duelled, Doomeye was posted to kill Brocktree if he got the upper hand. He fired at the badger once, then Ruff killed him with a javelin and by some brilliant stroke managed to cut the bow string as well.
9. Trunn's seer fox was called Groddil. What was his deformity?

Answer: Twisted spine

Groddil hated Trunn, who bullied him, and fled the army after being left tied up in some caves for failing to find Stonepaw. When Trunn was washed up after his battle with Brocktree, Groddil found him and pushed him back into the sea to drown. Then he left the Mossflower country and was never seen again.
10. What was the name of Trunn's army?

Answer: The Blue Hordes

When food started running out in the mountain, the soldiers were sent out to forage for food. The escaped hares and a holt of otters banded together, called themselves the Bark Crew and terrorised the groups. Often they were made to walk back to Salamandastron neck high in the sea. The blue dye would wash off them apart from their heads. This was very amusing to the Bark Crew.
