Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. With which make of car is 007 James Bond most commonly identified in the Bond movies?

Answer: Aston Martin

From the DB5 of "Goldfinger" to the DBS V12 of "Quantum of Solace" and beyond, the Aston Martin is the car in which the movie-going public imagines James Bond. It is curious, then, that this is a switch from the original Ian Fleming novels where Bond drives a Bentley.
2. Which name connects a kids' cartoon series; a nineteenth century journalist and a type of knife?

Answer: Stanley

Stanley Griff is the central character of a cartoon series produced by Walt Disney Studios and based upon the books by Andrew Griffin. Henry Morton Stanley was the journalist brought up in a workhouse and most famous for combing Africa for David Livingstone. A Stanley knife also goes by the name "utility knife".
3. Which fictional character lives in Privet Drive?

Answer: Harry Potter

No.4, Privet Drive is the famous residence of Harry Potter and the Dursley family. Rupert lives with his parents at an unspecified Nutwood address. Miss Marple lives at High Street, St. Mary Mead. It should have been elementary to recall that Holmes' digs were at 221b Baker Street in London.
4. Which radio DJ won the first UK series of "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here"?

Answer: Tony Blackburn

Blackburn began his broadcasting career on the pirate stations, Radio London and Radio Caroline. In 1967, he compered the first ever show on BBC Radio 1, for whom he worked for many years.
5. Grey, Mexican and Timber are all types of what?

Answer: Wolves

There are many different species of wolf around the world. Others include Ethiopian, Arabian, Italian, Russian, Indian, Arctic and Egyptian varieties.

Whilst a Mexican omelette sounds appealing, I think I'd rather eat the hat than try a grey or timber one.
6. Which Hollywood director was Oscar nominated for "The Great McGinty" (1941), "The Miracle of Morgan's Creek" (1944) and "Hail the Conquering Hero" (1945)?

Answer: Preston Sturges

Sturges was born in Chicago in 1898 and christened as Edmund Preston Biden. Sturges was the name of his adoptive father, his mother's third husband.

He was both a writer and director and won his only Oscar for "The Great McGinty", which was also the debut of the category for "Best Original Screenplay".
7. Which of the following is an alternative name for the song thrush?

Answer: Throstle

A bobbin is found on weaving and sewing machines; a firkin is a unit of measurement found in the brewing trade, whilst gristle is found in nasty cuts of meat. A song thrush is also known as a mavis.
8. Which of these cheeses is usually green in colour?

Answer: Sage Derby

It's the sage that produces the green colour. Double Gloucester and Monterey Jack are both yellowish in colour whilst Windsor Red is ... well, red.
9. Which American singer's hits include "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You?"; "How Can We Be Lovers?" and "Said I Loved You ... But I Lied"?

Answer: Michael Bolton

Michael was born in 1953 as Michael Bolotin. He began his recording career under this name which became the title of his first album.

"How Am I Supposed to Live Without You?" was originally co-written for Laura Branigan who took the song to Number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1983. Michael's version was released in 1989 but hit the top spot in 1990.
10. By now, you should have nine answers that link together to point you towards people who founded something in England in 1888. What did they start?

Answer: The Football League

The English Football League was founded in 1888. The twelve founder members, of whom nine were referenced in this quiz were:
Accrington*; ASTON Villa; BLACKBURN Rovers, BOLTON Wanderers; Burnley; DERBY County; Everton; Notts County; PRESTON North End; Stoke City (Nicknamed the POTTERs); West Bromwich Albion (Nicknamed the THROSTLEs); and Wolverhampton Wanderers (Nicknamed the WOLVES).

*The original Accrington club folded in the 1890s, from which time Accrington STANLEY became the main team in the town and, subsequently, a member of the Football League. Contrary to common misconception, there was actually no direct link between the two but, hopefully, it was enough to steer you in the right direction. Thanks to Dizart for pointing this out.

I commiserate with anyone who may have put the Football Association or the Premier League. You were very close but these are completely separate organisations founded in 1863 and 1992 respectively.
