Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the 'thingy' hanging in the back of your throat named?

Answer: Uvula

2. What is the world's costliest spice?

Answer: Saffron

Saffron comes from a species of crocus. Each crocus must be hand cultivated for the three stigmas it contains. It takes about 14,000 stigmas to make one ounce of saffron.
3. Where, in the adult human, are the majority of red blood cells produced?

Answer: Femur

The femur produces most of the red blood cells in children and young adults. The liver filters blood, and the pancreas creates insulin.

5. Which country ranks third in global military power?

U.S. (obviously) is first, followed by Russia. China, while it has a huge manpower advantage, has no navy to speak of. Doesn't do much good to have a big army if you can't get them anywhere!

Answer: Post cards

Answer: USSR/Russia/Unified Team

Canada dominated the early editions of the Winter Olympics, winning ice hockey gold in six of the first seven winter games. Their seventh gold did not come until 2002!

Going them one better in this time frame was the USSR, who picked up eight golds between 1956 and 1992. The last of these was as the 'Unified Team'.
8. What is the world's most grown, most eaten food?

Answer: Wheat

9. All of these foods are seeds EXCEPT:

Answer: Tapioca

10. How many instruments accompany a musician 'a cappella'?
