Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Leatherface from "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" movies, Norman Bates from the "Psycho" movies and Buffalo Bill from "The Silence of the Lambs" were all loosely based on what man?

Answer: Ed Gein

Ed Gein was a grave robber. He usually stole the bodies of dead women and liked to experiment with their sexual organs because his mother would not let him have any contact with women. This is where we get the "Norman Bates" model. He also wore a mask made of human skin and his furniture and his dishes and other such stuff were made from human bones.

This is where we get "Leatherface". It was reported that Gein also made a woman suit from the skin of the dead women that he dug up. This is where we get the character "Buffalo Bill" from. According to the movie of his life ("Deranged"), he dug up his mother but she would not talk to him, so he figured she was unhappy and started to dig up her bridge club in an effort to lift up her spirits.

When he saw no one was playing cards he surmised that they needed fresh skin so he killed and skinned a waitress. Then he tried to put her skin on his mother's. It was the killing of the waitress that led authorities to him and his activities. He also killed his best friend's fiance and tried the same thing.
2. According to an American nursery rhyme, "Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks, when she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty one." In what state did these murders take place?

Answer: Massachusetts

Though Lizzie Borden was tried for these murders, she was acquitted of them. The murders took place in Fall River, Massachusetts on August 4th, 1892. It was actually Lizzie's stepmother and father. Lizzie's real mother died when Lizzie was two years old.
3. In 1967, Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin supposedly captured which creature on film in The Six Rivers National Forest in northern California?

Answer: Bigfoot

Many scientists have tried to prove this film to be a fake but with no success! Many people claim that the fluid motion of the creature on the film proves that it was indeed a wild creature of nature and not a man in a suit.
4. The South American monster, the Chupacabra, is also known as what?

Answer: The Goatsucker

El Chupacabra supposedly is a creature that wanders in South American countries and sucks the blood from small animals and kills them. A main portion of these animals have been goats on farms.
5. In 1591, in Germany, around the towns of Cologne and Bedburg, Peter Stubbe was supposedly the first man also to be what creature?

Answer: Werewolf

Many people were scared of wolves in these days due to many attacks on their farm animals and the sounds of the howling that the wolves made at night. Supposedly a few townspeople cornered a wolf and attacked it with spears. The wolf did not run away but stood up and turned into a man, Peter Stubbe, who was recognized by some of the people.

This was mankind's very first documented encounter with a werewolf. Peter Stubbe was tortured until admitting that he had killed 16 people.
6. How many victims did London's legendary killer, Jack the Ripper, murder?

Answer: 5

He murdered only prostitutes. From August to November of 1888 Jack the Ripper killed 5 women: Mary Anne Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly. Though there were many suspects, the identity of Jack the Ripper was never discovered!
7. Bram Stoker created the legend of Dracula by doing a composite of a few different people. One of these people was supposedly Vladimir Dracul, in which the name Dracula was derived. Another was Henry Irving, a tyrannical actor manager who Stoker based the mannerisms of Dracula after. Who was the other person that the character of Dracula was based on?

Answer: Countess Bathori

Countess Bathori was arrested in 1610 for supposedly murdering over 650 girls in which she would bathe in their blood in order to keep herself looking young. She also reportedly would bite chunks off their necks and breasts. The character of Dracula really had no characteristics of Vladimir Dracula, but Bram Stoker first had the name Count Wampyre picked for the character, then upon seeing Vladimir Dracul's name in a book and reading about some of the things that Vlad the Impaler did in his life, changed the name to Count Dracula.
8. Which of the members of the Manson family did NOT participate in the Sharon Tate House massacre on August 8th, 1969?

Answer: Charles Manson

Charles Manson did not go along with the others when they went to Sharon Tate's house. There was also another girl named, Linda Kasabian, who supposedly never entered the house and was just sent because she had a driver's license and so she could be a lookout for the others. Besides Sharon Tate, 4 others were murdered, Wojciech Frykowski, Steve Parent, Jay Sebring and Abigail Folger.
9. The Bermuda triangle is one of only two places on Earth that true north and magnetic north are both in perfect alignment on a compass. Where is the other place that this also occurs?

Answer: Devil's Sea

The Devil's Sea is located off the east coast of Japan and is also known for its mysterious disappearances. Most compasses are calibrated in order to make up for not pointing at true north, and so when true north and magnetic north are actual aligned, this throws off navigation by several degrees and can set a ship or plane off course by many miles.
10. Which of the following is NOT a legendary dinosaur-like monster that people supposedly see in a lake?

Answer: Mokele-Mbembe

Nessie is the monster supposedly in Loch Ness, Champ is the monster that is supposedly in Lake Champlain, Vermont, and Storsie is the monster in Lake Storsjon in Sweden. Mokele-Mbembe is a monster that has been supposedly sighted in the swampy jungles of Africa that resembles a brontosaurus, but is seen on land not in water.
