Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You're a masochist (starts with an M, by the way). Pain doesn't scare you at all: you'd welcome some physical punishment. So what phobia do you NOT suffer from?

Answer: Mastigophobia

Mastigophobia is the fear of punishment or flogging. Myrmecophobia is the fear of ants, if you suffer from Molysomophobia you dread dirt or contamination and sufferers from Mycophobia do not like mushrooms.
2. Who was the fifth President of the United States of America?

Answer: Monroe

James Monroe served two terms between 1817 and 1825. James Madison was his predecessor and was also eight years in office (1809-1817). William McKinley was the 25th president. He served his country from 1897 till 1901. Levi Morton was the vice-president under the 23rd President Benjamin Harrison from 1889 until 1893.
3. In 1863 Union troops and Confederates fought at Gettysburg. On the third day the Army of Northern Virginia mounted the attack better known as Pickett's Charge. The attack (and the result) had an eerie resemblance with a battle a year before. Where did that battle take place?

Answer: Malvern Hill

Both attacks were the conclusion of several days of fighting (Malvern Hill being the last battle of the Seven Days), and resulted in a heavy defeat for the Confederates. On both occasions the Union failed to take advantage of this success. Even the dates were almost the same. Malvern Hill was fought on July 1, 1862 and Pickett's Charge on July 3, 1863. Marye's Heights was part of the Battle of Fredericksburg on December 13, 1862.

Here the Union suffered a terrible defeat. General Ambrose E. Burnside sent his troops forward 14 times before he decided that the Heights could not be taken. Manassas (aka Bull Run) was fought twice, once in 1861 and once in 1862. Both times the Confederates held the field.

The battle at Missionary Ridge took place in November 25, 1863 and was a Union victory.
4. His stage name is Michael Caine, but what's the name on his birth certificate?

Answer: Maurice Micklewhite

Michael Caine was born in southeast London on March 14, 1933. He is one of those few actors who has actually been in combat, in the Korean War. When he became an actor he originally adopted the stage name "Michael Scott". As there was already someone with that name he had to take another one. The one we know him now off was inspired by the movie title 'The Caine Mutiny'.
Michael Caine has won an Academy Award twice. In 1986 he was voted Best Actor in a supporting role in 'Hannah and Her Sisters'. In 1999 he was again voted Best Actor in a supporting role in 'The Cider House Rules'.
5. What chemical element is found at number 12 of the Periodic Table?

Answer: Magnesium

Its abbreviation is Mg. You can find Manganese (Mn) at no. 25, Molybdenum (Mb) at no. 42 and Mercury (Hg) at no. 80.
6. Which of these cities does not belong?

Answer: Magdeburg

Magdeburg (Germany) is not a national capital. For those few who do not know: Madrid is the capital of Spain, Moscow is the capital of Russia and Minsk is the capital of Belarus.
7. And now for some Harry Potter. Which moaning ghost is haunting the girls bathroom at Hogwarts?

Answer: Myrtle

Moaning Myrtle was a Ravenclaw student. She was killed by a basilisk in that very bathroom in 1943. Myrtle first featured in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets".
8. What fabric do you get after shearing an Angora goat?

Answer: Mohair

It is made of the yarn from the fleece of this goat. Mackintosh refers to a raincoat, and as such is not made of mohair. Molton and Molyester are as far as I know non-existent.
9. What was the name of the nymph who was changed into mint by a jealous Persephone?

Answer: Minthe

Persephone intervened when it was clear to her that Hades wanted to make a move for Minthe. Midas was a male, and therefore no nymph. He had the gift to turn objects he touched into gold. When it came to a point that even his food and drinks changed, he wanted to get rid of that ability and bathed in the river Pactolus. Minerva was the Roman goddess of many things. Poetry, wisdom and commerce were amongst them. Medusa, a gorgon, was not one to look at. If you did you would turn into stone.
10. Which multiple Tour de France winner was nicknamed 'The Cannibal'?

Answer: Merckx, Eddy

Arguably the greatest cyclist ever until now. Whereas most riders these days concentrate on just the Tour de France (Lance Armstrong!) Merckx wanted it all, hence his nickname. Merckx won the Tour five times (1969, 1970-1972 and 1974), the Giro (tour of Italy) five times as well (1968, 1970, 1972-1974) and the Vuelta (Tour of Spain) in 1973.

He was three times a world champion (as a professional) and won Milan-San Remo 7 times, Liège-Bastogne-Liège 5 times, Paris-Roubaix 3 times and the Tour of Flanders twice.

He won a lot more. In total, he celebrated 525 victories as a professional.
