Answer: Alcoholic liqueurs

These alcoholic liqueurs are given an additional ingredient of 22-24 carat gold leaf flakes. Danziger Goldwasser originated in Poland, Goldstrike from Amsterdam and Goldschlager from Switzerland. Gold leaf is safe to eat and can normally be found adorning quality cakes or desserts on an a la carte menu.

Welcome Stranger was first discovered just 3cm below the surface by gold prospectors John Deason and Richard Oates at Moliagul, Victoria, Australia. It weighed just over 72kg at the time it was found but had to be broken down to fit on the scales at the London Bank, Dunolly.

It was then smelted down to 23 carat gold weighing 2,380 ounces.
