Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I've always liked to read and I think it was because my parents started me off with fun, inexpensive children's books that have been published since 1942. Which long-running series is it?

Answer: Little Golden Books

Published by Simon and Schuster in New York City, Little Golden Books started with twelve stories and grew from there. "The Poky Little Puppy" alone has sold over 15 million copies in several languages. At the time of its golden (50th) anniversary, Little Golden Books claimed that over 1.5 billion books had been sold.
2. How about a nice, warm carbohydrate meal on a cold day? Which of these is a type of pasta that tastes good when hot and has a great yellow color?

Answer: mac & cheese

Pasta and cheese casseroles have been included in cookbooks for at least 800 years. It appears to be English in origin and usually consists of elbow macaroni and cheese but can include bread crumbs, meat or vegetables. It has a humble reputation, possibly because of its ease of preparation and an inexpensive, packaged mix made in huge quantities by Kraft Foods in the United States.

When it first came to America, President Thomas Jefferson once served it as "a pie called macaroni" at a state dinner.
3. Not known to be as aggressive as his big, white cousin, which shark is often found in warm, shallow water?

Answer: lemon shark

Growing up to 10 ft/3 m long, lemon sharks prefer tropical waters. They are usually night feeders and use electroreceptors to find fish, their main prey. They are not usually a threat to humans.
4. According to the Tremeloes, "Silence is___" what?

Answer: golden

Originally the B-side of a Four Seasons record, "Silence is Golden" was a 1967 hit for the Tremeloes, a moderately successful British group. On New Year's Day in 1962, the Tremeloes and another group auditioned for Decca Records of London. The Tremeloes were picked because they lived near the recording company; the other group was from Liverpool. Their name was the Beatles.

6. Which small bird has been nicknamed "America's Canary"?

Answer: goldfinch

The summer coloring of the male American goldfinch is such a bright yellow it almost makes your eyes hurt to look at it! They have a black cap and black and white wings. 8. The Beatles thought it was a mean old man; Jesus used a parable about it to describe Heaven. What is it?

Answer: mustard

"Mean Mr. Mustard" was on the Beatles' "Abbey Road" album. Three of the four gospels of the New Testament in the Christian Bible describe Jesus likening the Kingdom of Heaven to a mustard seed, small at first but growing greater than all the herbs.
9. The name of this quiz is "They Were All Yellow" which is also a line from a song. Don't get all heated up, just tell me who sang the song?

Answer: golden spike

On May 10, 1869, the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads celebrated the joining of their two lines at Promontory Point, Utah Territory, with a golden spike driven into a specially cut and polished California laurel tie. The spike was 70 percent gold and weighed 436 grams.

It and the tie were removed and replaced after the ceremony. The spike is on display at Stanford University in Stanford, California. The tie was destroyed in a fire caused by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
