After World War II, factory owners purchased vending machines for their businesses to keep their twelve-hour day employees from having a full meal break. When employees would take a forty-five minute to an hour meal break, production would cease for that allotted time costing the factory money.
2. On what planet is the largest volcano in the solar system?

Answer: Mars

Olympic Mons is the largest volcano in the solar system. The volcano is roughly the size of Arizona. The opening of the volcano (known as the caldera) is fifty miles wide.
3. What drug was patented as a weight loss drug in the 1920s by the drug company Merck?

Answer: Ecstasy

MDMA, better known as ecstasy, was patented in 1913 by the German drug company, Merck. When the patent went through, it listed nothing about using MDMA as a weight loss drug. Merck changed their mind about using the drug for weight loss and dropped their marketing plan.
4. Who is buried in Grant's tomb besides President Grant?

Answer: His wife

President Ulysses S. Grant's wife, Julia, is buried with her husband in Grant's tomb. The tomb cost six-hundred thousand dollars to build and stands at one hundred fifty feet high.

Answer: Arabian

The skeletal system of an Arabian horse is characterized by a shorter skull, slender jaw, and a large brain case (upper and back part of the skull). The Arabian horse has one less vertebrae in the back and tail. One less vertebrae gives the horse a higher carriage.

Answer: True

The first lightning strike can come from a cloud to the ground ground and is called the leader. The second strike is called the return stroke and is the brightest of both lightning strikes.
7. Was John Heisman alive when the Downtown Athletic Club Award was renamed the Heisman trophy?

Answer: No

John Heisman was still alive when the first Downtown Athletic Club Award was given out in 1935, but by the time the second award was to be given out Heisman had died from pneumonia. The DAC unanimously voted to change the name of the award to the Heisman Memorial Trophy in 1936.
8. Joseph Beuys created an avant garde piece known as "How to Explain Pictures to a Dead Hare". Where did he exhibit this piece of work?

Answer: Museum

Joseph was locked inside the Galerie Alfred Schmela in Düsseldorf while gallery patrons watched from outside as Beuys, covered in honey, walked a dead rabbit around the museum.
9. Who painted the portrait, "American Gothic" in 1930?

Answer: Grant Wood

Grant Wood painted the portrait titled "American Gothic" with his sister, Nan, and his dentist as the models in the painting. The oil painting was first displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago and garnered Grant Wood a three hundred dollar prize.

Franklin Yang was born Chen Ning Yang. He was a Chinese-American man who won a Nobel prize in 1957 for physics. He changed his name to Franklin Yang after reading an autobiography on Benjamin Franklin.

15. What was the original target for the dropping of the 21 kiloton atomic bomb known as Fat Man?

Answer: Kokura, Japan

Fat Man was supposed to be dropped on Kokura, Japan, but there was too much cloud cover and pilots couldn't see where to drop the bomb. Due to invisibility over Kokura, the pilots dropped the 21 kiloton Fat Man on Nagasaki, Japan on August 9, 1945 (the second choice for the bomb drop). Japan surrendered after the bombing of Nagasaki, even though Little Boy had been dropped on Hiroshima earlier.
